Good lineup that. I like it.
Pogba's usually hopeless in there, but I'm totally expecting his defenders to blame it on McTominay if that happens.Wonder how many posters will say the line up was shit IF we lose (but obviously wait til then as don't want to look foolish).
Hopefully a win and enough posts in here for another @Wumminator threadWho is he gonna play instead of McTominay in that line-up? The only other players who could realistically play alongside Pogba there are Fred or Matic.
I'm not saying McTominay should be the one he opts for but it's not exactly an embarrassment of riches to choose from. But nor is it the end of the world.

McTominay was good versus Leeds but then non existent the last game.

Well, we're playing against Moreno, Foyth, and old man Albiol.Never understand why Mata doesn’t play games like this. Pace isn’t going to do much against their low block so why not have a player with a reliable first touch and control? He's a good player. Certainly better than Fred and Matic. And whatever about his weaknesses, he certainly doesn't shirk responsibility.

McTominay's job is to sit behind Fred, whilst Fred presses aggressively in front of him. Given that Fred gets beaten more often than other DM in the league, United need that steady eddy insurance policy to collect the spillovers in front of defence. If McTominay went hunting for the ball like Pogba or Fred, there'd be nobody left in midfield.That's the one thing he does do

In any case, McFred are the the middle 2 in United's attacking 2-2-6 formation. The midfield today will necessitate a more defensive 4-2-3-1 formation. So even though we're nominally swapping a less creative player with a more creative player, it will lead to us having less presence in the opposition half. That should mean less emphasis on building through the fullbacks but more emphasis on hitting it first time to the wingers. Hopefully Sancho can announce himself as a proper United player.- Status
