Pogba McTominay midfield? Wonder how many we'll lose by.
Tbf the recent Fred isn't much better. He run a lot yes but his passing is simply horrible. I've lost count how many simple passes he's missed recently. Really really simple passes I'd say. Like Fred is back to the Fred in his first season here.

This should pretty much be our team most of the time imo

Just with Maguire Shaw and Rashford depending on form.
And Pogba. Hes up and down when playing in the middle. Hopefully with McTominay with him hel be alright.

Pogba has to play in the middle. We have too many good attacking options to be playing him on the wing.

All our Midfielders are up and down in the middle. He is still the best of them as he can play football.

One round of shots for every time a Villareal player falls dramatically

    Pogba replacing Fred = improvement
    Lindelof replacing Maguire = ...improvement?

Why United line up makes sense

The last time McTominay and Pogba started together in central midfield was the Europa League final in May. As if playing Villarreal again wasn’t enough of a reminder of that rotten night in Gdansk. The selection makes sense, Unai Emery’s side are missing their best striker and are a negative side, United should be good enough to cope without one of Fred and McTominay tonight.

Cheers. Yeah that performance was pretty trash hope we don't get a repeat.

Well, Pogba is going to be playing extremely deep tonight if this is anything similar to the EL final.

Telles is awful, Dalot not much better, and Lindelof is in there as well. Villarreal to score at least twice.

But that wasn't even the intended midfield pairing for the Final. Fred was injured and could not start, so Pogba was put into central midfield, something he was not doing much during the 2nd half of the season, especially when Marcus was injured/playing hurt.

For tonight, it makes sense because Pogba (should) give more control in midfield and McTominay should provide workrate and steel. Fred has not started the season well on the whole. Villareal are a sound defensive team and are comfortable defending first and countering or passing their way up the pitch.

I have a good feeling about this one.

3-1 with Sancho on the scoresheet.

He's recently come back from surgery and is clearly the better player out of him and Fred when fit.
He really isn't. His stock has soared recently due to Fred's poor form and his own injury but Fred's better at pretty much everything except shooting and aerial duels.

I see the Ole outers have turned on McTom because Fred is dropped

Got quite a few wrong as with Maguire, Shaw and AWB out I thought Ole might go 3-5-2 as he could play Ronaldo and Cavani up top. Pogba in the double pivot is always risky.

McTom was terrible at the weekend, rewarded with another start tonight. Poor management.

You're not going to play Pogba and VDB in central midfield. You have to start at least one of McTominay, Fred, or Matic. Just continues to show that United's central midfield is severely lacking a good balance without a glaring weakness no matter the pairing.

I'll be surprised if a united defence containing Dalot, Lindelof, Telles keeps a clean sheet tonight. So United I feel need to score at least two goals in order to win.

I though McFred was going to be our midfield to cover from Telles and Dalot defensive fragilities. Ole is going full attack on this one. I hope it works.

Lighten up you moaning cnuts, save the moaning for after the match please.

It’s Champions league night let’s get behind the team. Come on United

That's the 11 I've picked, Telles, is the issue for me he has to be on it from the start. Mc Tom and Pogba , I've gone for that because we need a win here. A loss tonight and then it's a tough group to get anything out of .
