CL qualifier might be a worry but I think we'll be fine vs. Spurs regardless of who we put in goal - Johnstone or Romero.Remember when 99% on here thought McNair will be bullied by Lukaku?

Deny that DDG is on his way for months then start a keeper who hasn't played a single mom mute for the club. Who runs this club?

Johnstone in goal with Blind and Jones at CB...

    :nervous::nervous::nervous:

So what? We're still going to win.

This exaggerated pessimism on here lately is pissing me off.

The term supporter should be changed to doubter for many sad people on here.

This is not directed at you in person, I just happened to quote you.

Van Gaal's comments about being humane, to me suggests it is De Gea who has asked not to play.

Get a grip, that central defense is shocking for a club of our stature no matter if we win or lose. That's being realist, not pessimist.

That's your highly unqualified opinion. The board has set its ambitions and target goals for LvG to achieve, he wants to achieve them. It's not like he is blind to our problem, he simply doesn't look at it the way you do. Besides, the quality of defense hinges on the quality of midfield, while the latter has improved greatly, expect the former to follow suit.

Johnstone has to start. Romero starting would be ridiculous given he's been with the team for less than a fortnight.

    Lads, Its Spurs............... :nervous:
    Possible lineup after the presser..
    ---------------Johnstone---------------
    Darmian---Smalling---Jones---Shaw
    ---------Carrick----Schneiderlin------
    --Mata---------Depay---------Young--
    ----------------Rooney-----------------

Hopefully no Blind at CB, do not want a shaky defense, Ander to come on for Mata in the second half

    Johnstone
    Darmian--Smalling--Jones--Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera--Schneiderlin
    Mata--Rooney--Depay

subs: Romero, Valencia, Blind, Schweinsteiger, Pereira, Young, Januzaj.

    Johnstone
    Darmian--Smalling--Jones--Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera--Schneiderlin
    Mata--Rooney--Depay

subs: Romero, Valencia, Blind, Schweinsteiger, Pereira, Young, Januzaj.
That would be my team. Though unfortunately, we'll see Romero in goal, Blind at CB alongside Jones, no Herrera, Young in the team and Memphis #10z

Johnstone should be given a chance here. For all the negativity, it's still the first game of the season lads. The transfer window is still open for 23 more days and we would still have 37 more league games to go.

    That team will do Spurs.

I don't get why the sudden pessimism around for this game. We should trust our manager. We have still signed 4 very good players which will have improved our team massively. I do get that there is a issue of GK, but we have now:

    - a midfield which is the best in the league (or joint best with Chelsea). Midfield has a strong impact on both the attack and the defense so I am hoping our overall team performance to generally improve (like our team performance worsened for all those years where we had good strikers and good CBs but no midfield).

    - in all likelihood the four defensive players we will start (smalling, blind, carrick and schneiderlin) are all fantastic defensive players, with them jointly having very good qualities in tackling, heading, interception, positioning, etc. In addition, the two full backs are very good quality. On paper, this can be a very good defense.

    Johnstone
    Darmian--Smalling--Jones--Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera--Schneiderlin
    Mata--Rooney--Depay

subs: Romero, Valencia, Blind, Schweinsteiger, Pereira, Young, Januzaj.

What I don't get is that almost every fan will pick a line-up similar to this. When LvG talks balance, this is balance.

The only issue may be Mata's speed on the wing, so it could end up Depay and Young on the wings, which I would be fine with.

Yep and it's playing to our strengths. It's the most obvious choice.

    Final Predicted Line-up:
    ________________________________________________________________
    50. Johnstone

    36. Darmian 12. Smalling 17. Blind 23. Shaw

    16. Carrick 28. Schneiderlin

    8. Mata 7. Memphis 18. Young

    10. Rooney

    Bench:
    20. Romero, 4. Jones, 31. Schweinsteiger, 21. Herrera, 35. Lingard, 44. Pereira, 11. Januzaj

Predicted Score: Man Utd 3-2 (Rooney X2, Kane X2, Memphis)

Spurs have no Lloris. Their best lineup is

    Vorm
    Trippier Toby vertonghen rose
    Mason bentaleb eriksen
    Lamela Kane chadli

    That's not so scary imo

    -------Herrera-----Carrick---Schneiderlin-------

    -----------Mata---------------Memphis------------

    ---------------------Rooney------------------------

    Johnstone is out on loan.

Nah, he was supposed to go on loan to Preston, but Van Gaal has delayed the loan due to this situation we're in. I'm pretty sure he'll start tomorrow. Preston has signed this England-U21 keeper called Jordan Pickford instead.

    • 1 de Gea
    • 25 A Valencia
    • 12 Smalling
    • 04 Jones
    • 17 Blind
    • 16 Carrick (Rafael - 87' )
    • 08 Mata Booked (Pereira - 77' )
    • 21 Herrera
    • 31 Fellaini (Falcao - 83' )
    • 18 Young
    • 10 Rooney
Was our lineup in March when we stuffed them.

I think we should just forfeit now. A 3-0 loss is much less embarrassing than the absolute drubbing we're going to get tomorrow.
    Am I doing this right?

This place is really depressing. I fully expect a win.

Unless the trolls are showing their ugly heads, I don't see how we're in for a "drubbing" or will get "slaughtered".

    We're at home.

    Spurs haven't strengthened much.

    We have strengthened.

Van Gaal to surprise us all and go with Jones-Smalling, a midfield three of Herrera, Schneiderlin and Carrick and a front three of Young-Rooney-Mata.

Depay to come on as a sub for Young.

    Mind games man, mind games.

    Johnstone is out on loan.

Course not, but I'm fed up reading it for the umpteenth time today...
