Did I watch a different game? Apart from Darmian and Smalling that was a slap in the face until the goal. Blind way too slow. Memphis completely nullified. Young being the old Young again and Schneiderlin average at best. Don't get me started on Romero or Rooney as a striker

It is a worry that we have depay in the
Pedro is really gonna be a big upgrade on Young. Get that done asap please.

Put Depay out wide and Mata in the middle.

Bring in Herrera for Schneiderlin who has been a bit sloppy imo.

I would bring off young, bring on Herrera switch depay to the left and we would get far more of the ball, and the possession game would be more flued. With us playing the way we do, we are becoming isolated without Herrera

    This is what is happening

    Morgan carrick

    Maya depay young
    Rooney

We have a problem, this is not 433, we have a winger played out of position, and an attacking midfielder played out of position who is not the most mobile, so we are becoming overrun like the fergie days of 2009-13

Now if Herrera comes on, we get the ball for a few reasons

    Carrick
    Morgan Herrera
    Depay mata
    Rooney

Herrera and mata can link up, Herrera can push forward, his passing link up play brings depay and mata into the game, and our players are covering the ground. With our current system we are playing 442, and we not getting enough of the ball

Can't believe criticism of Schneiderlin, exactly what we need in the middle of park, physicality. Also has won the ball about 8 times. He's gonna be immense for us.

Overall, much better after the goal but we need to be much more aggressive. Definite pre-season feel to it.
He's definitely been poor today so far.

Don't understand people saying we should sub one of our central midfield players. We need more centre midfielders on, not fewer. The issue is the two lines ahead of Schneiderlin and Carrick. We need to take a player out of the front four, add a player to the middle two so there's more impetus to get the ball forward from there, and add dynamism up front. A proper 4-3-3 like when we smashed Spurs a few months ago.

    1. If that own goal didn't go in, imagine the Rooney bashing right now......
    2. Romero actually has pretty good distribution :)
    3. Team is still mentally weak, all our good performances last season relied on getting a early goal in the first half to boost confidence.
    4. Pedro plz
    Point 3
I mean if you can't make a studied and unbiased decision based on 15 minutes of football then you might as well give up.

He's won the ball for us about 8 times after losing it for us god knows how many times? If we wanted a brute ball winner who is bad on the ball, we could find loads of those. He needs to step up and be tidier in possession because its not good enough right now

He's probably lost it 2 or 3. Watch the highlights later, every time we have won it high up its been Morgan. Improvement will come but be positive!

    More like underwhelming and disjointed.
Don't really think so. After the '20 we looked much better and closed things down pretty well. Only in the first 20 mins I thought we looked a bit nervy and toothless but since then have improved gradually. Of course in the 2nd half we need to be better and sharper but I don't have too many complains thus far.

    Second-half kick-off
I think there is a lot of nerves out there today, so I wouldn't read so much into our shite start to the game; we certainly got more into the game as the minutes ticked by which I'm happy about.

New players and LvG stressing all summer that we need a good start has no doubt added to this pressure for the players. Plus Spurs isn't an easy first game at all.

Not so bothered about the performance today, I'm more concerned about the points!

    Second-half kick-off

    No changes at the break.
Can someone say what formation we play here? I'm not really sure what it looks like.

Young has been awful, can't get past his man and his final ball is just not good enough. Memphis looks great but tries to do too much sometimes. Rooney looks OK-ish. Mixed feelings about Schneiderlin. And Mata looks very average atm, he is not a wide player and our right wing looks handicapped with only Darmian there, maybe it's not meant to be for Juan

Sub Young for Hernandez, move Memphis out left, move Hernandez up top and play Rooney in the middle/second striker with Mata out right.
last thing we need is to bring on Hernandez, we need to control the game with more purspose, Herrera on fro Young and Memphis out wide, he's quite lost in the hole

Rooney is playing a false 9 but it really doesnt suit us. Put pedro there as a real 9 and he'll be in the dangerous areas rooney should be in.

Whoever said rooney looks sharp needs their head checking. A sharp player hits that chance first time. He's thinking about what he's gonna do in the areas he needs to be instinctual.

Worth remembering that under Moyes we were amazing on the first day of the season.

 Why doesnt Valdes even have the United suit.

"Oh, that's Vic. He just showed up one day and everyone felt sorry for him so we just keep him around. Don't worry, he's harmless for the most part. Just make sure that you keep an eye on your wallet because he has a habit of eating pennies."

Is that one of the chances you were talking about? It's almost like scoring after 20 minutes isn't bad at all, and that it's pretty normal to go 15 minutes without playing like Barcelona vs Rochdale.
Haha yep exactly. That own goal has made me look very stupid.

Silly me. What was I thinking? 0 shots on target at HT is wanting to play Barca.

Carrick's been very good! He's made 4 interceptions and some great passes as well
i think both him and schniederlin have both been good, they both just sit a little deep we need one of them to support the forwards from time to time

Kyle Walker so easily dispossesses Young every time he gets close. Just too physically strong for him.

Rooney isn't playing well but he's hardly played as a striker recently. Even he will need time.
