Nonsense. Top 4 barely ever pulls away. Not least 10 games in FFS!
Won’t help us out though playing catch up. We need to beat spurs to try and close the gap a little bit and same for Chelsea, the 2 sides that are currently above us and our closest rivals for the other top 4 places.

We need to beat Spurs because it is better than drawing or losing, yes.

I've got a bad feeling about this one, to be honest. Spurs feel like one of the most perfectly designed teams to come and sit back, have 40% possession, and hit us on the break a couple of times. I've gone for a 0-2 defeat, but hopefully, we can improve our finishing and decision-making in the final third. Watching us lately, I just don't see enough creativity from open play or set pieces. We had a couple of good chances against Newcastle that we squandered, but that isn't good enough anyway, it needs to be more. I was amazed we somehow bagged 3 against City but given they took their foot off the gas and two of them were a wordlie strike from Antony and a dodgy penalty it's very flattering. Even the wins in Europe had us being exceptionally wasteful or uncreative. However, we have also generally looked a lot more solid defensively bare the shambolic first half against City (since the Brentford game of course). We're still guilty of the occasional brain fart (see Omonia's goals), but overall I'm very happy with how much more of an organised team we are.

If Eriksen is still out, he'll be a big miss. I'd imagine McTominay comes back in after scoring the winner last week and having the forced rest against Newcastle.

    De Gea
    Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
    McTominay Casemiro
    Antony Bruno Sancho
    Rashford

    Expecting something like this.

Could be a weird one tonight. Seen Spurs basically concede possession entirely under Conte in recent games… not sure that suits us too much… just need to get the basics right and we should win. Be nice to have a mobile front 3 tonight though.

I wouldn't say I'm 100% confident but too much negativity in here so far.

Sooner or later we'll take some of our chances I'm going 2-0 us.

Just need to deal with Kane, the rest are pretty useless in my book. Depends on how Casemiro plays today.

Still predicting a win for Spurs because I think we will get smacked on the counter. Kane -> Son / Kulu through ball, squared, goal for Spurs.

Thinking Ronaldo must start here - specially considering Erik's comments after last game. If he wasn't starting today I don't think Erik would have subbed him after 70 mins agains Newcastle.

Would rather he come on as sub in 2nd half. This will be his 3rd game in 7 days, that's way too much for someone his age.

Worried about how we'll deal with this game. Spurs sit deep and then counter quite quickly which is a big weakness for us.

I can see us passing it nicely around the box and losing it before being sprung by a Kane - Son counter multiple times. Interested to see how we deal with that.

Commentary on5Live Extra because, it seems, Liverpool vs West Ham is a bigger game...

Feel like ETH will go with a similar front 3 as Arsenal and Pool, meaning Rashford upfront with Sancho and Antony on the wings.

With us trying to play high line and Conte absolutely loving playing on counters, I am not very positive. Maybe Ten Hag will be more pragmatic and not play that much of a high line this time.

I can barely remember the last time one of CBs scored - even harder to recall a header from a corner

Centrebacks scored 87 goals in PL last season. Our CBs scored 2 goals of those.

As a team, we scored 7 goals from setpieces last season. Liverpool 19 and City 21.
    That’s with penalties excluded.

    Lads, it's Spurs!

Good point. We've only conceded 15 in 9 league games as well.
Our defence hasn’t been too bad to be fair. 10 of those goals were in 2 matches. Other than that we’ve conceded 5 in 7 matches.

absolutely massive game for United....have to watch the counter from Spurs with Kane but especially Son. They'll allow us to have the ball just to stretch us for the quick counters.

I think all defences look good if you remove the bad matches :)

They are called anomalies. It’s not like we’ve been bad defensively every game. That’s the point. In fact we’ve been very good defensively in the majority of games.

    Wow that's absolutely terrible.

We don't play a high line.

It is going to be a really interesting match - honestly I have no clue how it will go. We rarely get a result at Old Trafford so right now I'd bite your arm off for a draw.

Doesn't at all, they'll sit back and hit us on the counter. Our forwards are toothless with no space and theirs love running into it.

We need to score ASAP to make life easier.

We’re talking about one of the fittest footballers. He’s in top shape despite being 37. Don’t think he’ll start anyway… I reckon sancho, rashford and Antony. A lot of movement to cause there defence problems.

He was subbed simply because he was stinking the place and offered absolutely nothing at all. You don't think about the next match when you're chasing a goal. It was not like we're up 3-0 when he was subbed it was 0-0.

Anyway any news on Rashford and Martial guys? Would be dreadful going into this match with Ronaldo up top.

martial is not fit. I expect rashford to start with sancho on the left as he had a much better game than ronaldo on the weekend

Thanks. At least Rashford should be fit then. Let's hope no Ronaldo today.

And Eriksen? He should be fit too I think? Can't stand another match with Fred tbh.
