Back in the day, maybe. He's not got the legs for it anymore I think. Holding midfielder suits him perfectly in his current situation.
Probably true yeah. If we had Hargreaves in his prime, he would be perfect for that role.

Swansea will target our left side just like Valencia did, we are going to have to ride our luck for the first 30 minutes, but i predict we will start to take control after that.

It's a weak side but we know our squad is paper thin.

Do BT sport not have breaks anymore or something? Or have I missed it?

Again, a silly statement. Mine, or Jamie Redknapp's view is irrelevant right now. Anyone can say what they see based on things as they stand.

Did you have a favourite for the WC before the tournament? Or did you decide to wait till the final before doing that?

Moaning about lineups before we've even had a chance to play is just plain silly. End of story.

Lingard will be fine. What he lacks in experience he makes up for in intelligence. And then some.

What's with the negativity? It's a decent side, and it is home against Swansea. Man the feck up people!

Steve McManaman has nothing against United and if you don't believe him he'll spend the entire game, telling you about our penalty against Palace last season, in his Beadles About box in the bottom corner of the screen.

I am finally looking forward to the game . .

Don't think the squad is great but its just nice to be back watching football again . .

This is exciting. Another step into the unknown with so many questions to answer. Amazing how we have so many injuries already but some of these young players have earned this opportunity. Blackett and Lingard are potentially good enough. But our defence is gonna get tested to destruction against pace and power. Swansea have a few attackers with those attributes.

Cant see us keeping a clean sheet as much as I'd like to. But I still agree we need to invest in a bit more proven class while we still can. We should have enough for today though.

Great to see Louis straight away freshening things up a bit by starting some of the youngsters something like that was badly wanted. I doubt he'd start them if he thought they weren't up for it either so I'm not worried.

I agree. Blackett has looked impressive in preseason playing against better opposition than Swansea. This is one of those situations where if it's good enough for LVG, it's good enough for me.

I don't see the issue with the team. The only change could have been at right back. And Lingard actually did very well when he played there in pre season.

Only one I'm doubtful about is Hernandez. He didn't look sharp in pre season from what I saw. But we dont have a choice. We just have to hope he plays well.

Goodness me, just seeing our defence now. Yeah we shoud have definitely spent more money in that area.

I am looking forward to the season. All the fluffy stuff is there. However, I want us to be a success, I just don't think we have enough. Yes, we have a good manager, but that isn't patented to us. Others do too. Some also have better football players. I was hoping that was addressed this summer, I just don't think it has been yet.

Do I really need to issue the standard caf disclaimer and say that I hope we win today and do very well this season? I thought that was a given on here, we are amongst family. Here we can express all of our concerns. Or so I thought anyway.

It could bring out the best of the team playing the youngsters, they will all be up for it to impress the new manager and prove their worth.

Owen is right. Mata is a number 10 period. And man he'll be pleased to be playing there today. And this is also what I've even saying for a while. When RvP comes back that's the only way they can all play on the pitch at the same time. With Rooney and RvP playing as out an out strikers and Mata behind them. Rooney just needs to make sure he doesn't start drifting back towards midfield and getting in his way.

Also my nerves are back! Last season wrecked me and I had no feelings wether we won or lost. All tense again.

I can definitely see us conceding one, if not two goals. We'll need to take our chances.

Looks like a 2nd round Capital one cup team haha, But it's great to see Blackett and Lingard get their chances after a great pre season, Hopefully they take their chance now!

Spot on. Regardless of the injuries, they must be doing something right in LVG's eyes. A man who is known for promoting youth and makes some into starts as a result. If anything, people should be excited.

Worried about Lingard as Wingback tbh. The rest of the side is similar to pre-season so not that worried about the rest.

Still we're at home against Swansea , going for a 2-0 here.
