This could be a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 depending on where rooney will play.

Could also be 3-5-2. Its always somehere in the middle with LVG. Aslong as he can have 5 defenders when defending he is happy.

Every week the United Twitter team graphic gives away the formation with the order of the players.

If it was 3-5-2 it would have had Smalling, Evans, Rojo, Valencia, Young rather than Valencia, Smalling, Evans, Rojo
Feel like they just guess most of the time, though you could be right. We'll see I guess. Could be a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2 based on how they wrote it.

@Frank Grimes, we may have had one injury at the time of the press conference, but the absence of Shaw and Jones clearly points to them picking up injuries too, probably yesterday in one of the training sessions.

    its borderline insanity.
We would instantly look better If we played our obviously strongest options, and regularly at that. Chopping and changing and going for clearly weaker options (evans, Rooney in Midfield) its an embarassment from a so called "Top Manager"

The thing that makes no sense is that he has decades of experience and knows fine well that you don't need one of each foot for a successful defensive partnership, yet he will do it to the point of playing a completely woeful CB just to be "right".

I agree with that, I just can't understand the surprise amongst a few people in here. Our defenders have designated positions right now and that's just the way it is.

Evans shouldn't be anywhere near the pitch at the moment, though, that is a given.

I think it's more frustration and exasperation than surprise, these are such vital games and our manager's ego is overriding common sense.

    I'd be happy with a 433.

I suppose Falcao up top on his own is the only thing we haven't tried yet.

Anyone see van Gaal on Sky Sports News just then?

Lol, don't get excited, I hope its a 4231/433 with Di Maria and Young on the wings, Falcao upfront with Rooney behind but just realised, with LVG we take 1 step forward and the 2 steps backwards, back to the same shower of shite we served up earlier in the season, 352

    De Gea

    Smalling....Evans....Rojo

    Valencia..........Blind..............Young
    Herrera.......Di Maria

    Falcao.........Rooney

    This could be 352

    ____Smalling Evans Rojo____
    Valencia Herrera Blind Young
    __________di Maria__________
    Rooney_______________Falcao

Jones probably clobbered Shaw in training in the process of injuring himself.

Jones sneezed on Shaw and Shaw is fatigued from trying to move through the viscous phlegm.

Mata should be starting ahead of Falcao but considering the injuries it's an OK lineup that should see off Sunderland. Glad Young gets the nod too.

    This could be 352

    ____Smalling Evans Rojo____
    Valencia Herrera Blind Young
    __________di Maria__________
    Rooney_______________Falcao

If we weren't playing so terrible, the versatility of Van Gaal's selection would be a great thing. Opposing managers wouldn't know what the feck to expect, unfortunately, neither do we.

Well shit! I'm tired as well but that doesn't mean I get to skive.

You're not a pro athlete though! It's important to not burn out young players, people were making fun at Sterling - even if it was the right call. And that comes from someone who detests liverpool and will jump at any chance to attack them.
