Ugh. Evans. Yeah, let's keep going with that...'cause it works so well :wenger:

WTF. Shaw is worse than Rafa. Can't stay fecking fit. Evans in defence and Rojo as LB? FFS. Shambolic if true.

    It's hardly strange.

Smalling is back up to Jones and Evans is back up to Rojo. In the event that Shaw is injured, Rojo or Blind will move to left back. Given Carrick isn't fully fit then it makes sense to move Rojo out to the left and retain Blind in central midfield.

    Simple stuff lads.

How many injuries does that make this season? About 30 to Shaw alone I'm guessing.

Eh I wouldn't trust that one. There's only one twitter account I know that gets team news early.

would be incredibly disillusioned by that lineup if true /\ :wenger::nono::mad::(
If Shaw is a last minute injury then that would be why Rooney might be back in midfield. He obviously isn't sure of Rojo at LB and god help us, Evans in the side. Blackett got sent off on Monday, would that count in the PL as well or just the reserve league?

We get the 4-3-3 but a defender predictably gets injured. Now we get the dodgy hoofy Evans. feck this

So Falcao starts, Rooney in midfield, Rojo left back, Evans centre back, and still no Mata?

Well thats my saturday ruined already.

Im unsure if the suspension carries over, probably does though. McNair would be better in this side than Evans imo.
Playing Falcao pushing Rooney back is quickly becoming the stupidest thing Ive seen from this current Management.

This could go pear shaped today

Who cares if Smalling and Jones aren't bloody left-footed! They're better than Evans at the minute and should be playing ahead of him. Of course that report could be wrong anyway.

It's simple but it's stupid, I am behind LvG but this obsession with not playing two right footers at CB is ludicrous, especially when his only cover option for the LCB spot has been utter shite all season..

    its borderline insanity.
We would instantly look better If we played our obviously strongest options, and regularly at that. Chopping and changing and going for clearly weaker options (evans, Rooney in Midfield) its an embarassment from a so called "Top Manager"

I agree with that, I just can't understand the surprise amongst a few people in here. Our defenders have designated positions right now and that's just the way it is.

Evans shouldn't be anywhere near the pitch at the moment, though, that is a given.

Why not play Jones and Smalling at CB? and Rojo at left back? Takes Evans out of the fecking equation. Also, could still play Rooney/Falcao up top with Blind just in front of the back four, Herrera + Fellaini/Mata and ADM.

    Pointless shuffling from Van Gaal.

Do people here realise Evans is right footed as well? He's just capable of using his left. There's not any combination between Jones, smalling and Evans that is in any way good, so considering its a forced change, people need to calm the feck down.

My only complaint would be I'd rather have mata in for falcao and have Rooney up top as I think falcao has no future here so its pointless to persist, but even then, he's a player who has played as a lone striker his whole career and excelled as one. Only at united has he had a striker partner and he's struggled. Who knows, it might work.

If we don't win today, I'd say we're fecked. This is a must win game.
Home games against teams like Sunderland are must wins regardless of your level to be fair. Relegation candidates would see it as must wins too to get out, just as any top team would.

If rumours are to be believed, and Falcao is starting up top on his own, we could possibly see his best performance of the season from him today.

Also, if Rooney is starting in midfield with Herrera and Blind, I hope he plays as the most advanced midfielder, although I could possibly see Rooney being used as a number 8 and Herrera as a 10. Hope I'm wrong, though.

Not expecting much from today, to be honest. Expect the likes of Seb Larsson and Lee Cattermole to have their usual worldies against United. I'll go for a 1-1 draw.

    Something like?

    DDG
    Valencia-Smalling-Evans-Rojo
    Herrera-Blind
    Rooney
    ADM----------Young
    Falcao

Could be worse. Needs a good game from Falcao though.

    Probably
    -----------------------Blind
    ----------Herrera------Rooney--------Young
    ------------------Falcao--------ADM

That's what I mean. But failing to win a game against the likes of Sunderland at home would be a massive indication of us not getting top four. It's a game we're expected to win and must win otherwise we'll most likely not make the CL spots.

Not confident about this at all. At least with Young starting we might actually look dangerous wide again.

These lineups seem to get worse as the season progresses.

Straightforward win today. If Shaw is injured then it's a kick in the nuts though. If Shaw wasn't injured, Evans wouldn't be starting... other than that the team isn't that bad if true (I'm reluctant to trust UtdReport)

Give me Herrera, Mata, Di Maria and Rooney and I'm not remotely bothered about anything else.

If it's a 433 midfield of Rooney, Blind and Herrera, I don't mind that. Keeps Fellaini aka Plan B off the pitch. Di Maria and Young flanking Falcao. Balance seems right, anyway

Could be a 3-5-2 formation with valencia and young as wb...

I am hopefull this will be evans come back game

I think its anything but straight forward. Sunderland have a very good defensive record this season and that's the type of team we really struggle to break down. I also hate, hate, hate seeing Rooney in midfield.
