We can afford to play Casemiro and Bruno in the middle for this one and still win. Dalot will be having an enforced rest and I’d not be shocked to see Hojlund get a breather too.

    Onana
    De Ligt Maguire Martinez
    Mazraoui Casemiro Bruno Malacia
    Amad Garnacho
    Zirkzee

    What happened to Ugarte?

    What happened to Ugarte?

I think giving Ugarte and Mainoo a rest to prepare for the midfield battle against Brighton would be sensible.

Bruno and Casemiro should have enough against Southampton.

After fighting against Liverpool and Arsenal, Hojlund deserves to start against the bottom placed team in the league.

Give him 90 minutes here to get a brace.

Could really use a goal or two to get his confidence up. Can't remember the last time a striker actually scored for us!

I can’t see the same back 3 start after Sunday , I’d expect Yoro to come in

We absolutely need a winger at full back against Southampton at home as if we can't then we never will

Get Amad at wing back with Bruno and Garnacho in behind either Hojlund/Zirkzee.

Can we go Collyer/Mainoo in midfield or is that too risky.

There's a odd arrogance to think we should be resting players. We're in 14th for a reason.

Just logged on to the say the same thing. We need to play our best players and get points on the board. Forget about Brighton and make sure we win this one. We'll see after that.

Exactly this. Even though its a laughable concept to many, we are still only 7 points off the relegation spots. The last thing we should be doing is resting players in the league. We desperately need a statement win here.

Quite the opposite. We need to be winning both Southampton and Brighton. Given our extra time against Arsenal, some players will need to rest or be absolutely fecked 3 days later playing against Brighton.

There’s an odd arrogance to think our fitness levels are good enough that these players can play 300 minutes of football in a week.

There's an odd arrogance in all these posts about odd arrogance.

Not resting players isn't really an option with the current athleticism in the squad.

It's either that or get decimated by injuries which will be much worse.

Exactly. It's like some are living in a different reality to the one where we have 1 league win in 8 games. 5 points from the last 24.

Yeah cant really afford to rest players. Feel like amorin rested decently well via rotation early on so not like theyve been run into the ground. This game is absolutely must win. Best case we get a good lead built up and maybe can get some out early but win here is imperative. Yes brighton will be a big game too with getting points, but need the full 3 on this one before even thinking of that. Getting a draw would be a huge blow, and frankly at this point a loss would be catastrophic.

Continuity and consistency must be a priority at this point in time.
This match should be a continuation of Amorim’s transformation of the way we play and instilling a positive, aggressive and winning mentality.
We are defending better, the midfield is looking much stronger and more resilient and the players look to be up for the fight.
We just need to improve up front by creating and converting a lot more goal scoring opportunities.

We should be putting out our strongest team against Southampton and Brighton, but this will have to balanced against maintaining squad fitness, so I expect there will be one or two changes.
Complacency has been our undoing on numerous occasions and it’s easy to underestimate the opposition, even if it’s Southampton.

    .

Need to score some fecking goals.
Go at them from the get go

    3pts is a must

Would be great if we have a good result with half an hour to go so few players can be rested for Brighton. But obviously 3 points are most important, don't care that much about performance when we're in such a need for points.

No matter who we play, that midfield has no ball winners or mobility. It's worrying just looking at that midfield and imagining the attackable space being left by Case and Bruno to just waltz through.

We should just play our best side in both games and make changes for players with energy like Collyer as early as possible. Then in the Rangers game bring in the likes of Case and Eriksen to play at a lower intensity.

Right now, the PL is the priority and we must go all in.

Again, you've both missed the point..

anybody coming to this and going down Chester Road from the M60, I would give yourself plenty of time, with the road works ts a nightmare, with the football traffic it will be a nightmare.
When was the last time there wasn’t roadworks on that road? They seem to be perpetual in nature.

It would sum this team up to put in those performances at anfield and the emirates only to then get doinked by bottom of the league at OT tomorrow wouldn’t it.

So you think it's wise going full strength 3 games in a week when the first game we played 120 minutes and 60 of that with 10 men?
I think we're 15th and in no position to be resting players in a must win game. Everton a place below us wouldn't.

They've had 3 days recovery. Brighton will have the same Thursday to Sunday split.

Both are must win games! That's the point.

If you can beat Southampton who have 6 points and 12 goals making a few changes then you really are fecked.

    We are, that's why we're 15th.
