The number of times Phil Jones takes a look, rolls the ball under his foot and then plays it backwards is really frustrating.

The only good reason I see behind AdM up front is our lack of pace up front.
What good is that when we only create two or three chances a game with a depleted midfield? That's why I'd switch Rooney and Di Maria around.

Is there anyone to remember that United have a right to send someone from the staff in the technical area? It's almost sad to see United's technical area so empty.

Jones gets forward down the right but can't quite make his cross and it goes out for a goal-kick.
Decent game so far, need to be more effective in the final third, but think we will nick a goal if we continue like that.

There's a lot of interesting movement today, still don't like the 352 especially with the lack of balance we have right now though.

Good to see Blind in the team again, type of player I love

Alderweireld is down injured after cutting out a through ball towards Di Maria. Looks certain to come off.

There's no point sending anyone to the technical area, only one or two players close enough to the touchline can hear over the crowd. Most managers do it to put on a show, LVG feels it's a waste of energy. He tells the players what he wants them to do before the game instead.

Need to get di Maria on the ball a lot more, earlier in the attacking moves

Tony... you should have unleashed the through pass. There was no possibility for offside with the injured player there.

Personally, me too. So far it's lump it forward to Di Maria and watch him run.

Is there a stat on how many times teams hoof the ball from the back? We must be top

An injured player, and he doesn't play for United.

Shame for him, he just came back didn't he?

I was thinking we should play on and take advantage as we shouldn't be offside.

But you know, it's fair enough.

Di Maria is simply too far forward to have enough influence on the game. He may get chances today but we're relying on players with half of his pace to get the ball to him.

It's wasteful having Di Maria up top. He needs to be in midfield.
    I agree with this.

Di Maria is at his best in the middle of midfield, picking up the ball and running from deep. I can definitely see why we're playing him off the shoulder like that because we do lack that kind of pace up front, but Southampton are defending deep anyway so its kind of been nullified.
