Micki is faster than Lingard. Faster with the ball at any rate.

Fellaini and Mata starting, who'd have thought it. Carrick not even in the squad. Assume he and Lingard are just dropped, not injured?

He is very quick. Not a long distance runner but more of a Messi type of running and pace. Really quick over the first few yards and really agile, and runs with the ball very quickly so he can look faster but if it's a loose ball and a straight sprint then he isn't anything special. But acceleration and those first few yards are the biggest thing in football and that's where he excels.
Mkhi can enter in the second half, when legs are heavier for everyone too then.

Giggs doing okay here. Reminds me a lot of Neville. Wonder if he has been taking tips?

Creates a predicament though. Rooney always plays best when the pressure is on. If he then plays well to break the record and José drops him the media will call for Mou's head.
Fair point but the backlash of forcing him out before he breaks the record would be far worse.

I don't know what Mourinho sees in Fellaini, particularly in that position. Ok, we won vs Bournemouth but they were pretty shit.
Also Pogba's way too deep. But let's see.

Pogba sees himself as a b2b which seems to be his role in this setup. Granted he didn't look great in that role for France but this is a different system with different players, we shall see.

    Rachel Riley

Sports pundit and mathematician, but pretty? A very nice lady then!

Herrera unlucky not to start. Pogba instead of Rooney would have been perfect.

Probably letting Mkhi get comfortable but Mata is a quality player as well so it's not as if Mkhi has a guaranteed spot.
and Mkhitaryan shouldn't have a guaranteed spot. But IMO, he has done nothing to lose it in the first place. He was phenomenal last season and Mata was good. Doesn't he suit that right mid role a bit more as well? According to me, Mkhi should have started the season and it should be Mata fighting for a spot and that too for the number ten position. Maybe Mkhi is underperforming on the training ground. Anyway, as I said, only two games in. Good that he needs to prove himself straight away in order to get into the team. Big fan of Mata and Mkhi both but I prefer a slightly more tricky player out wide.

Rooney has never controlled any rhythm, Giggsy. Stop talking shite.

She went to Cambridge and all I think.

Key stat for tonight - tracksuit Rooney is wearing looks great.

Mourinho is waiting on mata to have a shitty game before starting mkhitaryan regularly, but once he starts he won't get benched again and mata will be mainly a europa league player, and you can quote me on that.

Could be. Though if he is waiting for someone to have a shitty game, rooney qualifies every week.

Thought Herrera's tenacity would help counter the pace and trickery of Soton's front 3. Bailly needs to be immense tonight.

That's a nice new "feature" of the Man Utd twitter account. And it's a good feeling for the Pogba fanboys I guess.

To be fair, if you gave him an hour's notice, he probably could.

Still wouldn't put money on it.

And a Utd fan, don't forget that!

Fellaini and Rooney still there, but only 2nd game, Jose will learn it soon. Still think that those 2 and Mata on the right wing will be exposed against better teams. And Pogba starting :)

Get your points, think it comes down to being at a new club in a new country as well. It will take a little time to adjust and add to that competition from a player of Mata's quality, you can see why he may not be an automatic starter.
