Hoping just like what we did to their neighbours Betis in the last round, we can get this tie over and done with tonight in the 1st leg although without Rashord we don't really have a reliant regular goalscorer in this team so probably best to hope their defence continue to keep having a dreadful performance as it's done all season. Gutted with Rashford missing the game but just have to make do without him now for the next few games. Hopefully Martial steps up and doesn't end up breaking his nail which rules him out for another extended period. Casemiro comes back in which is a big plus & obviously Bruno starts too but it's gonna be interesting to see which 3rd midfielder will be in there tonight. I'd go with Fred as it's a trusted partnership and his best games always come when he plays alongside Casemiro. Hopefully Eriksen gets some more extended minutes to build up his match fitness.

    De Gea

    Wan-Bissaka - Varane - Martinez - Malacia

    Casemiro - Fred

    Anthony - B.Fernandes - Sancho

    Martial
Butland, Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Mainoo, Eriksen, Sabitzer, Pellistri, Elanga, Weghorst

    Manchester United 4-2 Sevilla

EDIT: Just realised McTominay is ruled out of tonight’s game.

Hope we continue playing like we did against Everton and 1st half against Brentford. Just be more effective!

I dont think they can? Suspensions dont follow from the quarters to the semis, if i understand it correctly.
Yellows reset after quarters, which means you can get suspended for the 1st leg as you can reach the limit in the 2nd leg of the quarters.

He’s going full strength no doubt for me, Varane coming in and try to kill it to night. They are leaking goals, can’t score for toffee and finally I pray for a calm night of football. I know in my head it’ll be a cagey game but in my heart I see a 5-0 win.

When was the last time we really trashed another team ? in a convincing way.... I really don't remember anything recent.

But they can still get suspended if they get a yellow in the 2nd leg and miss the 1st of the semis. Hence why best to miss the 2nd leg (ten hag won't rest them let's be real).

    Yeah, that's definitely the case.

Bookings are reset after the QF's because people used to complain that it was unlucky to miss a Final based on getting just 3 yellow cards throughout the tournament. So resetting them for the SF's means you can only miss the final with a red card and not by cumulation of bookings.

But, yeah, any 3rd yellow, or a red, picked up in either leg of the QF will still lead to the usual automatic suspension.

I think it would be extremely unfair if McTominay was dropped, and he is scoring goals too (which we will need). I would actually play him as three alongside Fred and Casemiro. I would play Bruno instead of Antony, and encorage McT to go out and seek more goals. Eriksen and Sabitzer are good subs to change things and provide options in there.

But I do worry that we will miss Rashford, a lot, because no other forward carries a real threat, or presence up front, which places a lot of pressure on the midfield and defence. May need a few great strikes tonight.

McTominay was ruled out of the game last night. Apparently didn't train with the group and is out with a slight issue.

Didnt followed all their game, but with Sampaoli, they tried to play the normal Sampaoli game, with high tempo, high press, individual marking etc, but they have absolute average players. (J.Navas, Fernando, Suso, Lamela, Gil and El Nesery are their best players).

With Extebbaria, they are more disciplined, less "Spanish" like they used to be when they beat us few years ago.

If we manage to put a high tempo with quick transition we can win the game, and hopefully score 1-2 more goals than them.

To me the only risk would be El Nesery that can be on fire on his days, Lamela on direct free kicks, but other than that, even if we are not on fire at the moment, even if Rashford is not there, we should win this.
Thank you for this, that was going to be my next question.

I have faith in the team to shut them out like we have done against Everton & Brentford.

Would love a 2-3 goal lead going to Seville as their home form is still formidable but their away from hasn't been that great this season going by the match reports.

At home in a two-leg knockout round with our highest goalscorer out injured? Thank Christ you’re not in charge.

Bring back Casemiro and Eriksen, keep Bruno where it matters and get Martial in the game. We’re at home, man. Ten Hag will go positive.

    __________De Gea
    Dalot Varane Martinez Malacia
    ______Casemiro Bruno
    ___________Sabitzer
    ____Antony Martial Sancho

Dalot & Malacia to play high and add pressure/midfield overload
    Bruno to play the DLP
    Sabitzer to play Second Striker
Sancho to play as an inverted winger
    Martial brace

This is a two-legged game. Eriksen and Casimero have hardly played in weeks, so I'd rather ease them into games. The last thing we need is for either of those two break down again, and if you think Antony on the left is more productive than Bruno, that's up to you. It isn't Bruno's ideal position, but I prefer him over Antony. He's a more intelligent as a player, more responsible, and more effective than Antony. Now we have other midfielders back, I would drop Antony, and try something else.

Eh? Casemiro is fit as a fiddle. He was suspended and will be chomping at the bit. As for Eriksen, then there’s no issue with playing Fred instead, or Sabitzer, but the idea that we’d go into this game and play both Fred and McTominay is just crackers.

Antony was arguably the most dangerous player on the pitch in our last game and we play better when he starts for us. Ten Hag thinks this, too. Why would he want to ‘try something else’?

I’m at a loss as to where you’re going with this. Surely you just want to see a normal team.

    Casemiro

Only doubt is AWB vs Dalot and Fred/Eriksen vs Sabitzer. History shows ETH likes to ease players coming back from injuries in, hence Eriksen not starting.

    AWB Varane Martinez Shaw?
    Casemiro Mctomminy
    Bruno
    Antony Martial Sancho

    Shaw and McTominay are out

Others already pointed out that McTominay is injured but there's also this gem about 'scoring goals'. He has 3 in 35 this season. The last time he scored before the Everton game was in November.

Football gods simply won't allow us to have a full squad, we get back Martial we lose Rashford. At least we'll have Casemiro back and Eriksen to some extent.

It's very, very rare for any club to have a full squad to select from, at any given stage of any season.

Secretly I "dream" of a 3-0 for us tonight so we can manage easily the away game, rest one or two, but we need to win tonight. Their home form is ok, but a team that struggling since last year will not be prime Barca tonight

    Okey, thanks guys.

Frustratingly thought we were away first. Had hoped we can snatch a goal over there and make the second leg easier for us.

Alas, hopefully we can take back a 2 goal advantage over there.

It seems arsenal had it the whole season before Saliba's injury. Also city has had their full starting XI available most of the season. But to be fair they have like 15 players that can be called first XI so it's a different situation.

Is the away rule still in place in europa league?

Taking that rule out I always prefer to have the second leg at home.

    Sure.

Apart from long-term injuries to Smith-Rowe and Jesus, Partey being out for a month, Zinchenko for almost two months. Plus some injuries to squad players. Don’t believe everything EtH says :smirk:

    City:

    Stones two months
    Laporte over three months
    Walker almost two months
    Phillips almost two months
    Dias four weeks
    Haaland three weeks

I was also under the impression that we were talking about squads, not XIs.

I would love to see a 'normal' team, but I'm not sure what this means. Ideally, I want Bruno, Ericksen and Casimero on the pitch, but I'm just concerned about the players who have missed game time. McT being out is a bit of a blow, because he was our form midfielder, and alongside Rashford, in-form goalscorer!

Be an interesting game this evening, to observe how we will play without Rashford up top. No one else runs behind. No one else carries his responsibility, confidence, consistency, standards or leadership along the front line. Hopefully someone else can now take the initiative for the remainder of the season.

Won’t be an easy tie. We usually fail against these lot. Crucial to get a few goals tonight though to make the 2nd leg a little less tense. Expecting some crunching tackles for Casemiro tonight. Hopefully no reds though.

You mean under Ten Hag? 4-1 (5-1 agg) against Betis was fairly convincing at least.

In Europe quite a few of these players hav been a part of many good results under Ole:

6-2 vs Roma, 4-0 vs Real Sociedad away, 5-0 vs RB Leipzig, 5-0 vs Linz away, 5-0 vs Brügge, 4-0 vs AZ.

I don’t think we’ll miss McTominay in the slightest. It was only two games ago that he played like his usual brutal self. He was able to get forward more in the previous game, which helps him, but we have better options for today’s game.

As for the latter, we need to put our faith in Martial and what remains of his body.

No, the away goals rule isn't in place anymore.

If this was a tough UCL tie then I'd agree that having the second leg at home is more beneficial, but I actually think having the chance to put the tie to bed tonight is more advantageous with all the other games we have to play. Sevilla are also only 5 points above the relegation zone in La Liga. If we win comfortably tonight and they slip closer to the bottom over the weekend, they will prioritise the league over the 2nd leg. Hell, they might even do that tonight if a few key players are doubts.

We obviously have to do the job first though. Hopefully a few players will step up without Rashford, but having the spine of our midfield back should help.

Win tonight and avoid defeat at their place will do nicely

Wow haha grass always does look greener on the other side I guess.

Im saying it because that preferred starting line up by most of us:

    De Gea
    AWB/Dalot Licha Varane Shaw
    Eriksen Casemiro
    Bruno
    Antony Martial Rashford

Hasn't been available to use for one single game this season. Its like we're doomed

Hopefully we can do that and second leg is dismissed by both teams. Even so I don't think Sevilla will be easy as bad as they're in the league this is their competition they know how to play KO tournaments and having such a horrible season in Spain I expect them to be fully motivated to win this one to try to save some face.
