It no doubt has something to do with me personally taking the needle a few times during deep runs to nationals with my amateur team as well as being an American sports fan who sees the game through a toughness / resiliency prism.I get where you’re coming from, but I think we’ve already made the mistake of rushing Rashford back and paying for it later. If it was a final and the physios said he can play for 10 minutes and participate in a shootout, I’d understand.
But it’s not a good look as a club to hurry players back. More often than not you’ll end up suffering for it later on. I would definitely not play someone at 70% fitness. Brazilian Ronaldo in the WC final as an example.
Anyway we don’t know how fit McTominay is or isn’t and I trust the medical staff and EtH to make the right decision. Long term is the key I’d say. And it’s not like we’re talking about a key player here.
I wouldn’t want such a ‘push them back out quickly’ ethos to ever be in the club’s DNA, but, if there’s ever a time to get your best 11 out there, niggles & all, it’s now.
And no doubt it’s the greedy United fan in me who wants more silverware & see the lads reach what should be coming to them.
