If you're involved in / on the opposing side of the religious rivalry, I imagine, yeah. But they'd say the same for the other side as well, I imagine. I get that's how bitter rivalries work - with both sides viewing the others as 'weirdos', to quote the poster.

If that's where it comes from, fine. Still seems strange for a Man United fan to feel that level of rivalry at them to an almost same level as our bitter rivalries. But I guess there's some that are also involved in that rivalry as well for religious reasons.

Actually, with this ostensibly being a Man United fan site, I often forget the Irish / catholic bias it has as well. So I guess the post makes sense, and will be well received, from that perspective.
I'm not Catholic or religious in the slightest, don't give a toss about any of their rivalries and I don't like them one bit. Never have, even before they disgraced themselves in 2008. Awful club, vile fanbase and always have been, proper weird too like a bunch of even more northern Geordies.

Erm...out of interest & after the awful performance vs Brighton & Ruben's comments after that game, will he consider starting some youth players in this game?
not a hope in hell, this is a real chance of winning silver wear, he has to play the strongest side possible, Rangers will be coming here not only to win but to try and humiliate us in our own backyard, they will have seen what Brighton did and think, we are there for the taking.
This is a must win game, for the club the team and the fans, where has I agree maybe more youth should be used, not in this game.

65-70% are expecting a United win tomorrow. It's almost the same as before the Brighton game. I don't understand where the optimism is coming from, but I hope you are right.
Because you should always expect you team to win, I never go into a game expecting to lose.
Does that make me daft , yeah maybe, does it make me sometime hate watching defiantly , but what the point of watching if you think you will get beat.

Plenty of underestimating the opposition and overestimating United in this thread already. Rangers are a very physical side that will feel comfortable soaking the pressure and taking their chances. They tend to do quite well in European competitions. United are a completely rubbish side with no redeeming qualities, especially when expected to have the initiative and the pressure is on. This team won’t even try to win.

I think this is where reality dawns and shit hits the fan for good. Rangers 2:1.

Every matchday thread without fail we get fans deluding themselves into thinking we have an easy game and every match without fail we get totally dominated. You would think fans would have learnt from the last several times where we thought we had a straightforward match only to be completely outplayed and outmatched by the opposition. This is not your father's Manchester United. Get used to it.

Unfortunately I tend to agree with this.

Be interesting to see if Rashford makes the bench or team given his return to training with the squad, as much as he has pissed me/everyone off I cannot help but hope we have him as an option at the least, he is the most proven goal scorer we have, whilst he is here would be good to get something out of his wages, might also make a few of his suitors pay up if he can bag a goal or 2.... although I completely respect Amorim's decision to banish him.

Will also be interesting to see where Garnacho is if a transfer is truly pending then he might not be risked.

Got to start Maguire. I'd like to see Collyer start , give Mainoo a break. I'd love to see Obi on the bench. Give him 15 minutes if all going well

Sorry I dont agree, we a dreadful at the moment, showing no passion , players showing no commitment, fans are rightly pissed off.
Right now I think Celtic are ahead of us on all counts, Rangers well lets see what happens.
Do you reckon Celtic could have got the results against Liverpool, Arsenal, and City?

Do you reckon Celtic could have got the results against Liverpool, Arsenal, and City?
Nah, but if we play to our potential they would not get a result from us, but lets be honest we have just been hammered at home by fecking Brighton , very luck to get the points v Southampton, I stand by my post, Celtic right now are better than we are.

We all love this football club. That's why we keep torturing ourselves. :)

Bruno needs a rest, which means he'll probably do the 90. Would love to see Collyer start with Ugarte, and Mainoo pushed further forward alongside Amad as an experiment to see how they link-up with Zirkzee. Hojlund should only be coming on for the last 10 for the next few games.

Rangers fans facing a lot of disruption getting back home tomorrow as there’s a red weather warning starting here in Scotland for tomorrow.

They can stay in Manchester for as long as they want as far as we are all concerned.

Southampton had both boots on our neck and were ten minutes away from glorious victory. I have not watched Rangers at all this season but we have to assume they’re capable of doing is what Southampton almost did and what Brighton did in fact do.

Weirdly optimistic about tonight. Probably a bit of bias because I'm going to OT for it.

I genuinely do think we'll pin then back though, they'll look dangerous on the counter in parts but I'm expecting a comfortable win.

This is our only outside chance of making it into Europe next season. Strongest team possible is a must.
If we make it into EU next season via the Europa League, would that not mean that we'd have to win this trophy?
If so, what makes you or anybody think we can win the EL?

We are the bookies favourites to win it and when you look around at the other teams you can see why. No Champions Leagues teams means it's the weakest Europa League ever.

I wouldn't have us as favourites but we have a far better chance at winning this than performing a miracle in the league to get top 5. We should be taking these games seriously.

    I too have noticed this.

    There are 2 questions here:
1, are these people voting for the result they are hoping for?
    OR
2, are they voting for what they believe the result will be.

    Not sure.

The problem I see is that we are so unpredictable.
We can beat MCFC. Do well against Liverpool.
Then we lose to a newly promoted team, all in the space of a few weeks.
The inconsistency has been a problem with us for many years.

This is the ONLY competition this season that means anything win next 2 games in it were qualified for next round or its shit it like we can and go into a play off if that happens this side is out.
Rangers imo are not good but neither were Southampton look what happened in that game . OT needs to be as noisy as hell tonight to shut those 2000 or so Rangers fans up, the 12th man needs to be the crowd but I'm worried as the ticket prices are so high only as Roy would say the Prawn sandwich brigade will appear .

I Hope not this has to be a final for those guys and the fans.. come on lads ..

I don't think it's an overstatement to say this is our biggest game of the season so far. Lose and the whole season is pretty much over. I'm waiting to see how we make Rangers look like Barca 2013...

I voted for us to draw 1-1 because it’s probably the most likely result.

    That's a logical argument.
If the bookies' statisticians have made us favourites, then that does hold weight.

Regarding the "no CL Teams this year" - that doesn't mean much, as there are many weaker teams in Europe, who I'm sure could play us off the park.
Our players struggle to pass the ball, which is staggering.
We also have a situation in midfield, where "lesser" teams seem to have better control of the midfield than us.

I believe winning the EL is incredibly difficult and the team of players we currently have, which could be one of the worst in recent MUFC history, are not capable of winning the EL.

There'll be Rangers fans all over the place in the ground I'll bet. Much more than official allocation.

It matters hugely that the overall level in quality in the tournament isn't about to increase.

I think we all agree that we need to improve on our recent form even if we want to win another 5 matches this season.

I personally think we will make another couple of signings that fit the managers system and more time with the players will see an improvement. You can think otherwise but it's silly to act like it's totally outlandish to hope we can win a tournament that we are literally favourites in.

    what I will put in

Subs: Maguire is too slow, Mainoo looks super lost, Collyer and chido martin just to shake things up.
