Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Onana shouldn't start after that horror show, Mazraoui was awful too so I'd give him a rest. Collyer needs to start alongside Ugarte to give us that energy in the middle. Amad should be RWB so at least one side is attacking. We should have enough to beat these without stupid mistakes killing us off. These are the games Rashford usually bags a couple in but I'm guessing he isn't available for selection again.

    Garnacho Hojlund Bruno

    Dalot Collyer Ugarte Amad

    Martinez Maguire Yoro

    Bayindir

I first joined here when we played Rangers in 2003 to hurl strong abuse (before the Caf went soft) at a Rangers contingent who had joined to try and wind everyone up. Prior to that, I'd been lurking just to see if we'd signed Ronaldinho (oh to be back in those days)

They soon fecked off when Forlan and Ruud sent them back to the land of Porridge, Haggis and Irn Bru with their tails between their legs.

Interesting Ruben said in the Press conference today that United are finding it tougher to play in Old Trafford than away games. As a team are more nervous, anxious in Old Trafford and can feel it in the stadium and the best way to overcome that is probably scoring the first goal.

Erm...out of interest & after the awful performance vs Brighton & Ruben's comments after that game, will he consider starting some youth players in this game?

Yeah think I'd go for that lineup as well, we need that bit of physicality that Collyer will bring.

Amorim has managed against us twice and lost both legs, so hopefully that continues. Sadly though, we're down to the bare bones and in the middle of a transitional season. I'm expecting a defeat, but we do tend to save our best for the EL so not totally without hope.
Braga in Feb 2020 with Rangers winning 3-2 at home and 1-0 away.

You beat your nearest and dearest Celtic 3-0 recently and it was a match that Rangers had 24 shots on goal compared to Celtic with a mere 4 shots.

    Team that started then

    L Kelly
    R Yimaz, D Sterling,R Propper,Jeffe,
    M Diomande,N Raskin,
    V Cerny,N Bajrami,I Hagi
    H Igamane

From that team D Sterling out injured,Diomande suspended and Hagi not part of the European squad.

Having an opportunity to play a genuinely lesser side away from the pressures of the Premier League should be the fuel for a storming front-foot performance.

But, based on the demeanour of Amorim, the fact he looks exhausted and all of the bad press this week, yeah I’m going 0-2 unfortunately with a string of brainless performances.

I really hope he drops Onana because it’s absolutely deserved. If he doesn’t, I’d be very concerned with his decision making as head coach personally.

Not sure I'd describe Collyer as physical. Not a particularly strong looking build nor presence IMO. Plays like an inexperienced McT IMO. Hopefully he'll improve but I'm not seeing anything other than covering a bit of ground so far.

Not really. Rangers are extremely dislikeable.
If you're involved in / on the opposing side of the religious rivalry, I imagine, yeah. But they'd say the same for the other side as well, I imagine. I get that's how bitter rivalries work - with both sides viewing the others as 'weirdos', to quote the poster.

If that's where it comes from, fine. Still seems strange for a Man United fan to feel that level of rivalry at them to an almost same level as our bitter rivalries. But I guess there's some that are also involved in that rivalry as well for religious reasons.

Actually, with this ostensibly being a Man United fan site, I often forget the Irish / catholic bias it has as well. So I guess the post makes sense, and will be well received, from that perspective.

Somehow, defying all logic and reason, we have managed to put ourselves in a good position in the EL, so I'm sure we'll do our best to ruin that now.

With one eye on Sunday, I'd play this tomorrow:

    .............................Hojlund...............................
    .........................................................................
    ...............Rashford.........Bruno........................
    ..........................................................................
    Dalot..........................................................Maz
    ...................Casemiro......Collyer.....................
    ..........................................................................
    ............Licha........Maguire.....Yoro...................
    ...........................................................................
    ...............................Onana.................................

It's time to bring Rashford back into the fold.

    I predict

    .................. Onana

    ... de Ligt - Maguire - Martinez

    Dalot - Ugarte - Eriksen - Malacia

    .......... Amad - Fernandes

    ............... Højlund

    Subs: Mazraoui, Collier, Zirkzee

    Bayindir

    Mazraoui
    De Ligt
    Martinez

    Amad
    Ugarte
    Collyer
    Dalot

    Fernandes
Garnacho (or Eriksen if he’s not selected for transfer reasons)

    Zirkzee

We will rise to the occasion and take a decisive 5-0 home victory
You're really an optimist if you can see United scoring 5 goals and conceding none against any side atm. Some people predicted same vs Southampton and it was 0-1 with 10 minutes to go. We could win, but if we do it won't be easy.

Why have one eye on Sunday? This is by far a more important game than a random PL match - with just two games left in the group stage we need minimum 4, probably 6 points to finish in the top 8.

Other than the usual need to monitor players for fear of injuries, I really wouldn't be not selecting any players based on any kind of 'save them for / prioritise the PL game' attitude.

As regards that team, no way I'd go with that CM in a crucial game. And not the match to gamble on Rashford - and when / if he is ever reintroduced, it should be as a sub first rather than starting straight away.

A must win, both to get the eight place, but also to build confidence and momentum. Hope for a good result under the flood lights!

It was so quiet the last few matches, was properly weird so can imagine it must be unsettling for the players.

If we're not careful we could easily wind up losing half of our remaining league matches and wind up fighting for our EPL lives.

There's no such thing as a 'random' EPL match anymore; they're all important.

Yep. We're so inconsistent, and down to the bare bones like I said

I expect United to win, but they should be winning let's be honest!

I was at Ibrox that night, was only young. Atmosphere was incredible (Gary Neville said it was the best he'd ever played in). The United away support that night was very naughty in and around Glasgow.

It's why I always laugh when I read about Rangers hooligans on here. Both supports have undesirable elements, but both have brilliant passionate fans, hated by everyone in their own country but never ignored.

United have always been my English team due to family connections in Manchester. I'm buzzing for tomorrow

Not as important in January, when we're positioned lower mid table - 12 points off European spots, 10 points above relegation places - as the upcoming final two EL matches that decide whether we finish top 8 are not.

A win, draw or defeat v Fulham isn't all that important for our league campaign either way at this stage. A win v Rangers (and Bucharest) - or, conversely any dropped points - is very important for our EL campaign (and potential CL spot for next season).

Those two games are more important than the PL matches v Fulham and Palace.

You bring that form from the Celtic game into tomorrow's game you have every chance for going back to Glasgow with a positive result.

I watched United at home to Southampton in Old Trafford last week and I wouldn't expect them to beat any team at the moment.

65-70% are expecting a United win tomorrow. It's almost the same as before the Brighton game. I don't understand where the optimism is coming from, but I hope you are right.

It seems to be the same before every match that's not against a CL-quality team.

The threads building up to so many matchdays have plenty of posters who seemingly are oblivious to how rarely we ever win 'easily' nowadays - or even at all of late.

There's even often such confidence that rotated / weakened teams suggested, with comments like 'if we can't beat X with that line up...'

I approach all games now fully aware that we aren't going to 'easily' beat anyone. And that we'll make bloody hard work of any win that we do get.

Hopefully we can sneak a win tomorrow - we need 4-6 points from this and the Bucharest game if we're to finish top 8. That's important, as I wouldn't be confident in the play off, and even if we got through that we'd then face (rather than avoid) one of the top 8 teams if we were a play off winner. But in the same way I wouldn't be confident in a play off, then getting 4-6 points in the final two games will be a big ask as well!
