I've been thinking about this game for 2 weeks, I woke up with a feeling in the pit of my stomach like this was a crunch title game or a CL final, it's crazy how much I'm anticipating this match.

Do the players always stay at the Lowry the night before matches? Somehow never knew that. Naive enough to just think they'd go from their houses.

Yeah, been the case that we stay at hotels the night before home games. Means that the players can be pretty focused and under control rather than being occupied with other activities.

    ...........De Gea
    Rafael-Evans-Rojo-Shaw
    ........Herrera--Blind
    Januzaj-Mata/Rooney-Di Maria
    .............Falcao

For me is our strongest 11 and formation but no doubt we'll play it.

I'm liking the look of that, although Rooney will naturally drop back and occupy the position mata is in, always the same. So maybe Van persie would be the better option.

That's always a possibility. The only alternative is to play Rooney as the No.10 instead, employing RVP and Falcao upfront, dropping Mata entirely for this game. That might make sense since the three guys behind Rooney have the legs to give Rooney less responsibility for defensive duty; the pace comes from the middle in Rooney and Di Maria running out wide.

Haven't been this excited to see United play in a while! I don't want to get my hopes up too much though until we go through at least a month of solid results. I'll be happy with a 1-0 win.

Exactly the same mate - I'm a little bit nervous tbh and got that feeling in my stomach now. I've never anticipated a line up so much !

Feels like a cup final, madness! Can't wait!

When's the absolute soonest we could get team news?

Might be a leak for 1-2 players starting (journos posting it on Twitter), but I'd expect team news 55 minutes before KO.

Yeah I've seen that a couple of times on twitter with player leaks, even up to two hours before KO. Not always right though.

Best to just wait I guess!

And so, for the first time since 27th October 2001, Rio Ferdinand comes to Old Trafford as an opposition player.

On the last occasion, he was a Leeds United player and played as his side earned a 1:1 draw. Viduka put the visitors ahead on 77', while Ole Gunner Solskjaer helped us avoid defeat by scoring the equaliser on 89'

    The teamsheets that day:

Manchester United XI: Barthez; G Neville, Silvestre, Blanc, Brown; Veron, Beckham, Butt, Giggs; Scholes, van Nistelrooy.

Leeds United XI: Martyn; Harte, Mills, Matteo, Ferdinand; Dacourt, Kewell, Bowyer, Bakke; Robbie Keane, Viduka.

In total, as a non-United player, Rio Ferdinand has played against us ten times previously and has never been on the winning side. In the five times he's played for another club at Old Trafford, he has lost four and drawn once.
I tried not to get caught up in it but feck it. I can't wait for the game. Just to see how we line up and perform. I know even if we somehow thump QPR 6-0 it is not really a sign of anything. It's one game, at home against a team who's dodgy at best. But will provide a huge confidence boost

If we don't win then I can imagine there will be a meltdown of some serious proportions on the caf.

We need to make a statement today, one with a good fast performance and two with a big win.

    90 minutes to kickoff ! :D

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLOOO RADAMEL FALCAO.

    Cant wait for the game!
Hope all new signings start today if they are fit.
I hope this is the game were we turn things around, get a win, score a few goals and get the 3 points.
Then we kick on from here.

    Team News

Four players could be in line to make their debut today. Shaw returns from injury, Rojo has finally had his work permit troubles sorted, and Blind and Falcao are the other two.

Van Gaal has said that he sees Blind as a defensive midfielder and that Shaw will feature but whether he'll start or play the whole match is another story as van Gaal has said he isn't fit enough.

With Jones and Smalling both injured, it is highly likely that Rojo will start alongside Evans in defence.
No silly selections, no random youngsters starting out of the blue

Just a proper XI that will tear QPR apart

Bench: Amos, Blackett, Januzaj, Valencia, Mata, Herrera, Lingaard

If you swap Fletcher and Herrera that would in my opinion be our best lineup for this game. Ofcourse you could also debate whether Mata should play instead of Rooney. This team should destroy QPR.

Happy for Pereira if he makes the bench. Great talent and happy that LVG is trusting "the juice".

He's going to pick a back 5 again with Young and Valencia both playing, cue a caf meltdown. Then we will dick QPR.

QPR at 10-1 but I just can't bring myself to back them, they're woeful. Should be a fairly comfortable home win here regardless if it's the emphatic performance you're all hoping for.

The only reason I have put Fletcher in ahead of Herrera is because I can't see him risking too many coming back from injury to start. I reckon Herrera will come on for Fletcher in the second half.

A win today and we're just 3 points behind Arsenal , 2 behind City and 1 behind Pool.

Massive match for us and will be a good morale booster

Can't wait for this now, just hope the line-up keeps the caftards happy.

I don't know what the right thing is with regard to the starting 11, but I hope LVG does it.

Falcao and ADM, my Spanish mates are muchos annoyed :-)

Agreed. I think he (Blind) might struggle physically.

Why? Eredivisie isn't a soft league and he's not a weak player. He played in a physically compromising position for Ajax last season and held his own in challenges. Don't think he'll have any problems. The Premier League physical worry is the default position for anyone who's not from the UK, but it's unwarranted. He'll be fine. Watched him plenty enough to be confident in that.
