I'm honestly looking more forward to seeing Blind play, assuming he starts in midfield. I've almost forgotten how it feels to have some composure in midfield. With Di Maria and Herrera in front of him we could also be seeing some actual creativity from the middle

You'll win this, probably heavy and the festivals will commence ;). Going for 4-0. Rooneyx2 Falcao and Di Maria. With 2 DM assists.

Please king Louis no more 3 in defence....................
    Please....
    Please....
    With a cherry on top

Livescore already has a starting line up for us

    DDG-Rojo-Evans-Blackett-Rafael-Blind-Herrera-ADM-Rooney-RVP-Falcao

Is this official? Di maria at wing back and Roo-RVP-Falcao on at the same time??

    Maybe Blind at wingback?

With the amount of changes/debuts we're likely to see I'm expecting a slow start. Think we'll probably get our act together in the 2nd half, 2-1.

Does the line up prediction game have an end? I mean do we play it as a game where scores from each matchday are summed up at the end of the season? or is it just on a game to game basis?

Hi all, this is Damien bringing you the pre-match buildup for this match thread.

It's been about a fortnight since we last played, and after an interesting end to the transfer window I am sure most of us are eager to see United play again.

Yesterday was a pretty good day in terms of results, with Arsenal and Manchester City drawing, Liverpool losing and Spurs drawing too.

Despite a bad start in which we've only got two points from a possible nine, if we win today, we will move up to ninth - just two points behind fifth placed Manchester City and within two points of all of last year's top six sides apart from Chelsea who are well in the lead on 12 points from a possible 12.
    I predict 4-1: Rooney x 2, Di Maria, Falcao

    --------------------DDG
    ----------Evans---Rojo----Blackett
    Rafael-----Fletcher-----Herrera----Blind
    ------------------Di Maria
    ------------RVP---------Rooney

I expect us to win by at least 10 goals. Team will also be 100% fluid with each other in terms of understanding movement, tempo, width, formation and roles.

Rojo with 7 of them. Blind to score 3 screamers from 20-25-30 yards

If we lose:Theater of 3 points , relegation battle jokes

If we win: Ah its QPR, who cares?

Also expect Januzaj to be starting, he needs some fodder to play against.

As is often the case on a Sunday, quite a few stories have emerged overnight about us. Here's a roundup of some of the stories:

    1) Yobs lay thousands of screws and nails around United's training ground (The Sun) - Can't really read the story itself as it is behind a paywall, but the preview helpfully says:
"SABOTEURS have visited Manchester Utd’s training ground on the eve of today’s crunch Premier League tie.

Join Sun+ to read what they have done..."

Oh, I don't know. Did they perhaps put nails and screws around our training ground? Read up on a pun filled thread here with reactions from caf members to this weird story.

In addition to the above, Siorac gave us an interesting tidbit in that the term 'yob' was formed by spelling the word 'boy' backwards. This dates back to the 18th Century as it was common to speak backwards then according to the bastion of knowledge that is Urban Dictionary and is no way a windup. No siree.

This is probably the worst thing I've ever seen.

Is Smalling fit? If so and LVG still insists on the 3-5-2 then I think we'll see something like this:

    .................De Gea
    .......Smalling Evans Rojo
    Rafael...........Blind.........Shaw
    ..........Herrera......Di Maria
    ..........Rooney......v.Persie

Valencia, Fletcher and Falcao to come on for Rafael, Shaw and RVP in second half providing there's no injuries.

Edit - I know that looks like a 3-3-2-2 but you know what I mean.

    2) van Gaal orders Valencia to have English lessons, despite having lived in England for eight years (Daily Mail) - van Gaal wants all his players speaking English and has ordered our non-English fluent players to have lessons together in order to improve communication on and off the field.

According to the Daily Mail, Di Maria and Rojo will take beginners classes together, Falcao and Herrera will join de Gea in intermediate class as they both can speak English alright, and Valencia has asked for one-to-one tuition. Read the caf thread here.

It will take a while for him to adapt. Not expecting firework today.

Honestly, I think that's asking for too much.

So many players have come and gone and there is a new coach with a new system.

Do not expect them to click any time soon.

    Perhaps after 3 - 6 months.
So, you are basically implying we will not be in cpl football by next season? I do not believe it is asking for much. Good players are capable of performing well with one and another. And we have some great players. So, I expect them to play like contenders for bpl title or cpl football against arguable one of the pooriest team in the league.

I'm in lanzarote on my way back today but the bar in the hotel doesn't have the game. Can anyone pm me a river that'll work in a Spanish territory pwease? Normal one not working for me here.

An hour before the lineup is out. I'm ludicrously excited. 3-4-1-2? 4-3-3? Falcao to start? Rooney, van Persie or Mata to be dropped?

    3) van Gaal sends exercise bikes to players' hotel rooms (Sunday People) - Ahead of the first home game of the season against Swansea, van Gaal ordered 22 computerised exercise bikes to be delivered to the rooms of the players at The Lowry. Fitness staff moved the bikes from the gym and loaded them into vans before taking them to the hotel. As the bikes were so bulky, they could only fit in the lifts one at a time. Van Gaal is expected to have done the same before today's match.

    What is this shit?

    4) Ronaldo wants £500k per week to join United or Chelsea next summer (Daily Mail) - Wouldn't be a Sunday without a transfer related story even though the window is closed. The hugely reliable Daily Mail *cough* have said he could be ready to return to United, though Mendes' Chelsea links could mean he might go there.
Do the players always stay at the Lowry the night before matches? Somehow never knew that. Naive enough to just think they'd go from their houses.

Hope they get a bit more practice before the game!

Definitely needs work. Thing is it will only go downhill from there as they get more pissed

    5) Terry never apologised to either of the Ferdinand brothers for the race row (BBC) - And finally, Rio has said that his brother Anton received death threats. Rio thinks that Terry said what he said in the heat of the moment and wasn't racist, but neither player talks to each other anymore.

Rio added that the bad feeling meant that his England career was ruined while Terry was able to continue. Rio would have liked to continue, but Roy Hodgson never asked if he would consider playing with Terry.
