Have to play Casemiro today due to Scott's injury and Sabitzer just arriving last night. Very unfortunate; definitely valuing health over performance tonight.
I think Casemiro will be okay. I've never seen him out of breath on the pitch, he's always two steps ahead!

If Rashford, Bruno or Casemiro get injured things will start to take a bad turn. Don't care how bad the lineup is rest them and we can always bring them on if needed.

    Cheeky Mainoo start?
I was thinking we'd play Mcfred and him, but with Mctominay being injured that's an issue.

I guess we either rest Fernandes and put Mainoo as the 10, or rest Casemiro and play him next to Fred. Depends whether ETH feels he's up to playing deep or not yet.

Is Iqbal still here or did he go on loan?

He also missed the Arsenal game and was subbed after 70 minutes on the weekend and generally doesn't have a big overload of minutes this season. Yeah he'll be fine. Sub him out after an hour or so for Mainoo

If Mctominay, Eriksen and DVB are injured, we don't really have a choice.

I'd be happy seeing someone played out of position or use a kid.

Iqbal, Shaw, Bruno, Lisandro - choose one of them next to Fred.

It's a tough one. I think it's a big risk to start Mainoo - partly because of the Reading game when Mainoo and Fred were the pivot Reading were cutting through us and it became a basketball match - this was despite Reading being down to ten men.

The worst thing is to concede an early goal so I think we should start the match with Casemiro and take him off after half-time or after 60 mins. Or start Mainoo and just see how we fare, bringing on Casemiro if needed

Ten Hag will respect the opposition. I'd say Garnacho is probably the only change we will see. The midfield picks itself because of injuries. Maybe Lindelof and Maguire might start but I'd be wary of conceding early with that partnership playing.

Going to the game tonight with the wife. The tie is literally 90% over barring the biggest shock of all. 1st goal is going to be crucial. If they get it, then it's game on. If we score it, then it's curtains. Going to go with what I expect rather than what I hope so don't shoot the messenger. ETH will make a few changes but will still go for a strong lineup. Doesn't seem to rotate too much & will probably go for a mix of 1st team, reserves & youth in his starting X1 with a strong bench if needed. Happy to have both Sancho & Martial back and hoping both can play some part tonight.

    Butland

    Wan-Bissaka - Lindelof - Varane - Malacia

    Casemiro - Fred

    Pellistri - Mainoo - Garnacho

    Weghorst
Heaton, Maguire, Martinez, Williams, Iqbal, B.Fernandes, Antony, Sancho, Elanga, Martial

    Manchester United 2-0 Nottingham Forest

I can't see more than 3/4 rested. And that's largely in defence where we can get away with it.

I'd like to see Rashford on the bench but it's 50/50 I I think.

Hope we rest Rashford and Casemiro.

Give Garnacho and Pellestri a start on both wings.

As a teen in the late 80s we'd head over to play a bit of football every Easter and we'd always catch a game at the City Ground. What a team you had then. I saw us and Liverpool get slaughtered there in league games.
Yeh we were a bit tasty for a couple of years. Tonight I’d snap your hand off for a nil nil and a bit of credibility restored.

    Man United 1-4 Nottingham Forest

    Are there away goals?

If not, Forest to win on Penalties
We are the shootout kings. We’ve only lost one shootout in the last 13 Played. If we bag that 3 nil win we’re as good as at Wembley!

Maybe if you had somebody else to stick in goal. Hennessey has saved a grand total of one penalty since 2013.

Between him and De Gea, it'd probably end up like our Europa final shootout where every last one went in until the keepers. :(

What are the chances to start Martinez in midfield? I think he could do a good job there and keep us from playing Casemiro

I expect a reasonably strong team. Casemiro definitely starts IMO, possibly Bruno as well. Both coming off around 60 mins. Ten Hag wants this trophy and isn't going to take any chances.

ETH was asked about playing Martinez there yesterday - said he has played there before and as a manager he may have to be creative at times and play someone from one department where they have enough cover in a position they normally don't.

But, I don't see it happening today - he's been going with a strong starting XI, so can see Casemiro starting and if game is safe at 60ish minute mark then coming off and a young CM coming on.

That team deserved to win more.
Cloughy always said his biggest mistake was breaking that team up too early. He reckoned they were done after the Hamburg game.

Still in 4 comps…the club could have helped out their new manager a little more I feel in this window.
Maybe if we got bought out earlier on in the season. We can’t all do a Chelsea and spend billions in one window. I agree with what you’re saying though. Need the depth to compete in all 4 competitions.

Yeah couldn’t have put it much better

    Now the window has closed:

    Nevas
    Aurier - Worrall - Felipe - Lodi
    Yates - Danilo - Shelvey
    Scarpa
    Johnson - Surridge

    Surely you mean late 70s?

The late 80s team was a lot less star studded, though Stuart Pearce and Des Walker were quality. Oh, and the boss’s son.

Edit: just seen your post above.

Webb was Ian Storey-Moore part 2. Such a shame.

Will be interesting to see how you do in the remainder of the season - been on a decent run of form of late.

The deadline day signings won't be able to play today
