But the mistakes by the defenders — Martinez in particular — were what butchered us. It’s not as though Newcastle were blowing through our midfield and walking the ball into the net. They went wide, got the crosses in, and beat our CBs and our hapless keeper.
Martinez - and most other defenders - need a midfield in front of them slowing down attacks, diverting angles away from goal, helping with overloads. In this game, Eriksen and Casemiro were stood with their hands on their hips watching 3 or 4 Newcastle shirts blaze past Martinez and Maguire and De Ligt.

Garnacho is like a child out there
    Sell him.
Bored of him losing the ball in the final 3rd because he tries to dribble straight through someone.
Literally has absolutely nothing in the locker other than knock and run if we manage to catch someones back 4 on the halfway line.

    Keep Mainoo
    Keep Amad
    Maybe keep Yoro
Maybe keep Garnacho (not that fussed)

Sell the rest. Rip up their contracts. Donate them to Oxfam. Whatever it takes. They all need to go.

The decision to keep ETH in tne summer and give him money to waste is absolutely ridiculous

Means we have very little to spend in January to try and fix this epic shit show that he assembled

Without any doubt that has to be a win.
Lose that and you really feel this is going to be an absolutely unthinkable relegation battle.

Well probably do something daft like win against Liverpool. They used to beat us when they were crap and we were winning titles.

Do worry that the circumstances are similar to the League Cup defeat in November last year.

We’d just been well beaten a few days earlier (against City), the mood was grim and there wasn’t really the appetite amongst the fans.

Newcastle were in form strolled to a 0-3 win.

    Near identical.

If you’re an away fan, Old Trafford is just about the best trip in the league right now.

Did anyone think we were going to win this one?
Even still, the first 25 mins of the first half was a disgrace.
Worst than expected, even if we expected to be beaten.
2nd half we had a lot of the ball, a lot chances but we can’t score or create clear cut opportunities.
We just can’t score goals, even when we are putting a lot of pressure on in and around the box.

You're being deceived. Newcastle wrapped the game up and then took the foot off the pedal knowing we'd not be able to hurt them. They're conserving energy for their next game whilst we flail about trying to score a single goal.

If they perceived us as a threat, they'd go up the gear they've not bothered with since the first half.
    This.. it happens so often,
the opposition work out that we can barely pass to each other, so they drop the intensity

This season just needs to be shot like an old race horse, how many more games is it before Liverpool WILL be crowned EPL champions?

We were better in the second half, even after Mainoo came on in the first. How much of that is down to Newcastle playing safe we’ll never know. We started actually winning duels, which tells me it’s likely Newcastle turning it down a notch.
Wonder what it takes to get these players caring. If not for the team, then for their career and their trophy cabinet…

Then again, starting a CM of Eriksen and Casemiro against Newcastle…. I’d rather start Collyer, ffs, and thats not because i think he’s ready. At least he has legs…

Sigh… we’re gonna treat him as a youngster until he’s around 28 like we did with Lingard and Rashford won’t we?
I guess we should treat him as the age he is. He's clearly got talent but still has a lot to learn to use it properly, which doesn't feel particularly surprising for a 20 year old. Yeah we've been in that situation a lot of times recently it seems, but that's not unique to United.

I think the worst of it is that we are such a soft touch, it's a fair plan to execute. Why expend any more energy than you have to, especially in the middle of the harsh festive schedule?
Yep, there was a five minute patch in the second half where Newcastle went up a gear, and we couldn’t get the ball off them.

The way the likes of Joelinton, Schaer and Isak brushed off our players was maddening. Men against boys.

One of the worst parts is how rival pundits like Carragher just feel sorry for us.

Sure, but we have not seen any progress in a long time. He still looks like a player who will just run alot with no end product, and low football IQ. I hope I’m wrong but he should be put on the bench for a better player.

We desperately need training, so we throw the FA Cup so we can finish the season strongly and finish... 8th? I'd rather finish 15th with an FA Cup final to look forward to. Trophies are everything.

They are not, this whole mess proved that. I would throw the throphy to get better as a team and the players start playing with some confidence, and get better and more cohesive.

This is exactly right? So why does Amorim keep persisting with this?

@Raees flagged this in one of his Pythagoras in Boots videos. Amorim's wing backs are Sporting were wingers who auxiliary defenders.

So why is Amorim playing full backs in this position who are useless in getting forward?

We are effectively playing 5 at the back now and wondering why we have not scored in 3 games.

The only thing wrong here is that you can not accept that I am not a fan of Amorim and that I do not see him as the right manager for us. You just can not accept that I see things different than you, and you reacted very immature because of my post.

I have tried to explain to you that I just see things differently than you do, but you are not prepared to listen to anyone's point of view but your own. This indicates immaturity. It also shows immaturity that you make personal attacks instead of "going after the ball". You don't even try to argue why you think it's too early for me to think Amorim is a bad manager. You just come up with your ridiculous emotional outbursts. Now I don't know you, but my hope is that you are still a teenager. Therefore I will end the "discussion" here and leave it to your parents to educate you.

I do agree to be fair, and even though he's young he has a fair bit of experience, I just think it's a bit early to write him off completely.

Because those wingers were also expected to contribute against the ball on a constant basis. Who is going to do that for us apart from Amad? I don't like that Maz and Dalot are used like that but lets not act as if the other options are self-evidently better. Garnacho was way too long exposed to Rashfords mindset I guess, he doesn't have an idea of defensive play and Antony, well to be honest, I'd like him tobe given a shot but given that we would improve results already by not CONCEDING goals I kind of get Amorims approach with sacrificing attacking output. Issue is, doesn't work out
