Uniteds managers refusing to play Eriksen in his natural position is baffling. Why do we always just refuse to pack the midfield. 11 players and we have one natural central midfielder. The rest are either attacking midfielders, wingers or wingbacks.

    That's excellent analysis, tbh.

Maybe it's easier for a more natural winger to play in that position that Amorim wants as opposed to a traditional full back. It probably hurts us less for a more natural winger to be less good on the defensive side of their game, whereas it hurts us a lot when the defensive-style full backs playing in the wing back positions struggle to play the attacking football we need. As Carragher just said, they can't take players on 1vs1. That's a huge issue for us.

I like the Eriksen pick but just not in midfield. His passing and calmness on the ball is better than Bruno. He doesnt play useless long balls over the top and give up possession. He is also a much better set piece taker than Bruno.

Eriksen doesn't press, which is what Amorim wants from his attacking players.

Missing the game tonight, got notifications set up on my phone. Ordinarily I’d be fuming at having to miss a game, but that Wolves game sent me over the edge.

Yeah, I think if Mount had been fit then we would have seen more of Amad at wing back. Ideally, I would have Mainoo and Mount behind the striker, with Amad moved permanently to wing back until the summer.

It seems that the poor form of some players and the injury/fitness status of others has hindered us big time. If Shaw is fit and available, I really think he'd do well in that wing back spot. But, his fitness and injury record has been a concern for some time. There's question marks over where the likes of Rashford, Garnacho, Zirkzee and Mainoo fit in. I'd even go as far as to say that Bruno hasn't cemented his position either or what we need from that spot.

I like the idea of Amad wing back. Really unsure about Mainoo and where he fits in. I'm struggling to see him in the position behind the striker. He seems to only really work in a midfield three, but that seems to be to cover his deficiencies. He really needs to learn that cm position properly.

Mount is a kick in the teeth. Think this is a good formation and style for him, but I'm unsure if we'll ever properly see him play there for a prolonged period of time.

Eriksen and Casemiro as a pairing scares me. Amorim definitely knows its a risky pairing but does has have a viable alternative?
Yes he does Amad can be the RWB or LWB, Maz & Case as the CM's and Eriksen and Zirkzee as the 10's

Is there even anyone we could realistically sign in January to improve this shower of crap?

I have faith in Amorim but he's currently hamstrung by a group of unwilling and/or unsuitable players

    Carra always makes great analyses

Carragher’s a brilliant pundit isn’t he. Very rarely gets it wrong when talking football

Eriksen doesn't press, which is what Amorim wants from his attacking players.

Nonsense. Pressing is the only thing Eriksen does well defensively. He has always been a good presser. He always runs a lot. He has always played as part of the “front four”.

The problem is deeper when he has to defend and tackle. He is useless at it, that’s why he has always played further forward where him running a lot is an advantage. You don’t need to be able to defend or tackle when you press.

Denmark plays the same formation and Eriksen is usually part of the front 3. It has been horrible when he has played in central midfield for Denmark. Last time he did it he got moved further up after half-time.

The same thing is happening for us time and time again. We might start good and have some spurts of good play, but eventually it falls apart because Eriksen is too bad defensively to play in a two man midfield.

In most games I would happily play Garnacho and Antony over Dalot and Mazraoui. Mind you, we would be even worse at defending set pieces, if that's at all possible.

A negative Cafe reaction to the line up is usually a good omen. I think we’ll surprise today and win comfortably.

Interesting lineup. Probably the most sensible lineup considering Bruno and Ugarte are unavailable

Yeah, that's a distinct possibility. God, this place will go into meltdown if we concede another set piece goal. :nervous:

The absolute scenes of us practising defending corners as part of the warm up. Have we not had all fecking week on the training ground?

On another note, have Carragher and the Sky host purposely matched their outfits? Or have wardrobe run out of gear?

Genuinely worried about this one. Thankfully all relegation threaten teams lost points yesterday will make this a bit less anxious

    Urgh zirkzee and hojlund

    The pain doesn't end.
Throw in Amad who works very hard and is promising etc, but it's probably one of our most underwhelming attacking 3s in about two decades.

Which means we're gonna win obviously.

9 from 11 for me. I had Yoro in for LeGitt and Mainoo for Eriksen.
    We so need a win.
    Wonder if we'll see Rashford
Wtf?! I've seen some shit spelling of players names on here but this takes the grand prize, well done!
