Time to drop Rashford and Fernandes and play some energetic and enthusiastic youngsters. As we did in the previous round against Crystal Palace, which was our best performance of the season, when we actually played together as a team.

This cup is his bread and butter, so we will probably win 3-0 against Newcastle's C team without Bruno and Rashford and the good vibes will be back until the lineups for the next league match will be announced.

pretty much every game this season has gone the same way, we ping the ball around at the start for a while, dont score, then the opposition work us out, then we lose our composure / tactics / effort and big gaps appear in the midfield. Its the same whatever players he picks. its whether the opposition are good enough to take advantage or not. so however we perform on wed, will have no actual bearing on how we perform next weekend as there seems to be no attempt to establish any kind of patterns of play.

Ten Hag might be playing for his job, but the outcome of this game depends on how seriously Newcastle take it. If they decide to go all out, they can beat us handily. But they don’t have the squad depth to keep going like they have, so I think they will go easy here, which opens the door for us to sneak one in. Drop Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Antony.

1:1 draw. We win after penalties.

    Dalot---------------------Varane-------------Maguire---------------Reguilon
    ------------------------------Amrabat----------Eriksen------------------------------
    Antony------------------------------Mount-----------------------------Garnacho
    ------------------------------------------Martial------------------------------------------

Rotate Martial and Hojlund, bench Bruno and Rashford.

    Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Reguilon
    Amrabat Hannibal
    Mount
    Pellestri Hojlund Garnacho

Bench: Bayindir, Evans, Eriksen, Lacey, Mainoo, Gore, Martial, Forson.
Put whatever kids are available on the bench and send a message to a few lads like Rashford, Bruno, Antony etc by making them watch from the stands.

A must win. No excuses. This and the FA Cup is our only chance of us having anything to play for this year.

We already aren't in the fight for champions league spots

ETH hasn't the balls to do that.

And who knows if some players have it in their contracts that if fit have to play, sounds like madness but there has to be a reason Rashford plays every week when he is an absolute cowardly waster.

That should never be the case.

I dont believe any player has a contract that says they must play. Unheard of in the premier league. If he doesnt have the balls to do that he should resign.

It's pretty simple. Either come away from this transition bollocks and coach the players more in line with his philosophies, or continue on the current trajectory and get sacked. Those are his choices.

Having said that, he's probably lost respect of most of the players due to his constant flipping and flopping anyway, so it's all too late.

I honestly don't think it matters who starts at this point. The performance will be the same. Largely second best, but might get away with it if we take a couple of chances and the other team doesn't.

Both teams arrive with tired legs. Hopefully Hannibal and Mount will get 90 minutes here.

We play too many games and it creates injury crisis, so feck it if we're going out of this one. Play talents.

Having played around 10-14 games so far this season it is fair to bench a few bigger names.
None of them could come knocking on the managers door Thursday morning...saying that they would probably just release a statement on twitter instead ;)

So give Rashford and Bruno the night off.

EDIT - Or do you give Rashford/Bruno/Casemiro the Newcastle match and then let the younger lads Garnacho/Hannibal + Mount have Fulham early on Saturday?

Looking forward to not seeing Bruno or Rashford.

I feel he will play a similar team to the one that beat Palace in the cup. Get the youngsters in and some energy in the team.

    Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Reguilon
    Amrabat
    Hannibal Mount
    Pellistri Martial Garnacho

Can't even get excited about seeing a few fresh faces, because we all know as soon as the league comes knocking he'll revert to the same old familiar lazy fecks

Hopefully Hannibal gets some time, only just realised he's not featured at all for us since the defeat to Galatasaray. He was a rare bright spark for us this season and has totally been phased out recently it seems. Has he been injured?

Our options are shocking tbh, but id change the shape, get Bruno Rashford out the team.

    ONANA

    Dalot varane lindelof reguilon

    Mount Casemiro Mejbri Garnacho

    martial hojlund

Would love some rotation to just really give the others a chance, so many things we aren't happy with including playing players out of position, not dropping players for underperforming, lack of play style etc but if the following team played I would be a lot happier and at least see he is giving them a chance and playing them in the right positions:

    Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Reguilon
    Mainoo Hannibal
    Pellistri Mount Garnacho
    Hojlund

With our depleted squad we should give the fringe players a run out and see what happens. The senior players are not delivering, and it's not worth the extra miles on the odometer of some of these players, especially as it's going to be really tight at the end of the season, and a couple of dropped points are going to make a huge difference. Not sure we really need this competition anyway, just give it to the hungry lads and hope for the best. We could use the time off.

    And Newcastle will hammer us.

How I wish this competition didn't exist. I hope it's scrapped in the near future.

Our hope is that Newcastle will not play most of their best players. They have a lot to play for this season. But I still think we are going to lose 0-1

Don't give a feck if we lose, I just want to see Mainoo and Hannibal get minutes and to have a break from watching Bruno and Rashford.

Newcastle haven't won a trophy for about 50 years, why would Newcastle play a weakened team in a QF clash with their opponents ripe for picking? They almost certainly won't win the UCL or PL so they might as well go for it in the LC.

I hope he benches Bruno and Rashford at least, and brings some youth, legs and energy into the team in the form of Pellestri, Mejbri and Garnacho, to name 3 at least.

If they stink the joint out and Newcastle turn us over easily, at least Erik can say "see, I dropped Bruno and Marcus and it wasn't any better".

But he needs to change something, he can't keep going the way it's going.

Sod it, swap everyone out that we can…

    LM/B2B Amrabat
    CAM - Mount
    SS - Martial

The defence - whatever we have.

It's the league cup against a good team. Why not try and play a big game without any of the seasons biggest flops.

    Onana
    Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Reguilon
    Amrabat - Eriksen
    Mount - Hannibal - Garnacho
    Hojlund

Give it a go Erik. It cannot possibly be any fecking worse.

If Mount plays we will be starting with 10 men. ETH will be playing for his job so it will be interesting to see how this pans out.

This! And then put on Hojlund early in the second half. EtH starting with Rashford and Bruno would be the pure definition of stupidity.

Having said that I’m pretty sure he won’t drop Bruno…
