That's why we must play the best team against Newcastle.......win against them and a draw at Tottenham would be "okay"

No win against Newcastle......then we're under massive pressure again

I agree with this. Plus, Spurs also have to play two games in two days.

Plus (;)...they have to travel to Leicester and to travel back to London
We just have to travel to London

We just have to think about Newcastle......a win against them and we can go more relaxed against Tottenham.
But no win against Newcastle......well then Tottenham is a must-win-match imo.

3-5-2 has been getting him results, also we probably don't have the personal to play another formation right now, and Carrick has been brilliant in the defence, so I don't have an issue with him there.

You don't think that the recent run could be more accurately traced to the confidence which LVG has instilled and the return of Carrick, rather than something inherent to 3-5-2?

As Herrera and Fellaini are both out, I will like o see this.

    DDG
    Rafael Jones Smalling* Young

    Carrick
    Valencia**_______Di Maria

    Rooney
    RVP
    ____Falcao
    * There is a possibility for Smalling to be back, so hopefully he is ready for this game. Evans just don't give me any confidence.

** Valencia did a great job on midfield on one game back them I think it was again West Ham not sure, but I will prefer him there instead of Fletcher.

If Van Gal think some players must be rest for the Spur game them play Wilson or Januzaj on top instead of RVP or Falcao. Rooney can play two games with no problem. Hopefully for Spurs Fellaini or Herrera will be back.

Does one day make that much of a difference? The players are professionals at the top of their game, you expect them to behave in a certain way with their diets etc.

Then let's not forget the human element. How would most people feel if they had to work on Christmas day. It is better for some players with a family. They will feel less resentful and more relaxed, happy if you like. Mourinho is renowned for having a close relationship with his players, this type of thing only helps.

At the World Cup Rio Ferdinand spoke about how he went out and he found the dutch squad drinking responsibly at a bar. They were allowed and trusted. Then gave the example of how England treated their players at their camp (Capello was very strict) and how it made them feel.

It sounds like it's all part of Van Gaal's philosophy.
If that is the case I'm okay with it. But I'm afraid if we look tired at the Newcastle game then the manager will be the one to blame for this decision. And put in mind that never happened in SAF era too.

So you are getting ready to blame the manager for something that hasn't even happened yet?

Surely both Fellaini and Herrera can't miss the game.
One is ok, but BOTH, absolute effing flipping bollocks that is. I'm not having that, blood piss poor.
I'll be fuming if neither is on the bench or starting, not acceptable at all.

Herrera hasn't played since the 14th and our last match as on the 20th, surely he can recover from a minor injury quicker if he has pencilled in for the game on the 28th in these bullshit conditions.
Oh and Fellaini has absolutely ZERO PERCENT reason to miss the game, he played 90 mins on the 14th and he missed the 20th with a runny nose, sniffles and a high temp. he's had more than week, he better flipping start.

That line up best have Carrick-Fellaini, Rafael who has trained for bloody 2 weeks now plus on last match bench, it bloody best have Rojo on the bench because he was meant to start the liverpool game and it's been 12 days since he was taken out as precaution.

If that matchday squad doesn't have at least 3/4 returning players, its definitely LVG being up to no good.

This is a horrible and disrespectful post. Both would love to play, but if they are not fit, then they are not fit. It may take a week, it maybe take two and it may talk just couple of days. In the end, they are not match fit and LVG prefers not to take any risk.

Phwoar, that's Van Gaal told then.

Is Fellaini really out for Friday? LVG talked about injured players not returning, but Fellaini was ill not injured, so maybe LVG was not referring to him.

EDIT: just seen post # 204. Seems a long recovery time.

I really hope that the lanky poodle is back for this one.
He might not be a world class player but He makes our midfield more balanced.
He's vital to us at the moment.

what utter rubbish , we have no idea what injuies or illness the players do or don't have or at what stage the injured players are in their recovery.
If there is not 3/4 returning players , please tell us all what you think LvG is up to ?

So lets see who gets injured from a wrapping paper cut or a bauble falling on their foot.

Please no knives, hammers or electronics under the tree today... Only soft presents for our players

Spurs only have 1 player injured and he is fit this Friday...

they do have a big disadvantage though. They're Spurs!

On a serious note, let's hope they're in their standard home game form v us, but raise their game to untold levels v Chelsea straight after.

we are getting close to the unthinkable....all defenders being fit at the same time

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has praised the performances of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea this season, saying his form shows the difference between the two sides.

Whilst De Gea has produced match-winning performances on a number of occasions this season Newcastle have struggled with their goalkeepers with both first and second choice options, Tim Krul and Rob Elliot, having suffered injuries.

For the Boxing Day clash between the sides at Old Trafford, Pardew will once again have to turn to the inexperienced Jak Alnwick.

David De Gea reveals he is enjoying life at Manchester United

Speaking at his press conference before the game Pardew noted the contrast between Alnwick and De Gea, touching on the fact that the Spaniard is one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now.

He also went on to say that they know it’s going to be very difficult to score so the plan is to go with power and try to score from corners.

Pardew said “There’s a contrast in goal at the moment: Jak is on his second or third Premier League start, and De Gea pushing (Manuel) Neuer for the title of being the best goalkeeper in the world.”

And in order to overcome such a reliable goalkeeper, Pardew revealed his side will attempt to win and capitalise on set-pieces.

“De Gea is a fantastic shot-stopper… he makes it very difficult to score, so you have to go with power and go for the corners.”

David De Gea averages 2.47 saves per game in the Premier League this season.

Judging by LvG's press conference, the absence of Rafael and Shaw is why we're playing 352. He doesn't think much of Young and Valencia as full backs.
We really need a good RB cover, because Rafael will always be injured. As for LB, it's just been extremely unfortunate that both covers for LB (Blind & Rojo) are injured at the same time Shaw is.

If Smalling is back I would play:

    ----------------------------De Gea-----------------------------
    --------------jones-----Smalling----Blackett----------
    ------------------------------Carrick---------------------------
    Valencia-------Rooney------Di Maria------Young

    ---------------------Falcao-------van Persie-------------

Hopefully we play a fast tempo passing game and press from the front. Rooney needs to attempt those quick through balls to the strikers instead of the safe side pass.

You doofus, count the players!!

Oh my, that is a revolutionary formation! LvG would never in his whole life be able to match a genius such as this! 12 players on the pitch!

    I'm a Muslim.
I dont hate Christmas, much like Christians dont hate Eid.

And with regards to using 12 players - this is what we call "thinking outside the box" - this could be an interesting tactic which I'd like to see tried out. :D

Imagine when we beat teams 5-0.
Skipper of rival team: boss, its like we are playing 12 men out there. We can't get the ball. There are red shirts everywhere.

Not looking forward to their strength and pace up front. It's got 'Evans holding back and giving away a pen' all over it.

With the Spurs game in mind and rotation important and injuries prominent I will quite controversially select the 3-5-2 as my favoured set-up for this particular game.

    de Gea
    Jones - Smalling - Blackett
    Carrick
Valencia - Rooney - di Maria - Young
    Mata
    Falcao

Subs: Lindegaard, Evans, McNair, Rafael, Januzaj, van Persie, Wilson
Games are coming up thick and fast, so I'd like us to save Rafael and RVP for the Spurs game. We still have no returning CM's and with Valencia starting at the expense of Rafael I feel the 3-5-2 is the best option to use.

I don't think my omission of Evans is knee jerk, as he has genuinely been atrocious all season as Blackett fills me with more faith than him at LCB.

    -----------------------De Gea------------------------
    --------jones-----Smalling----Blackett------
    Valencia-----------Carrick------------Young
    ----------------Rooney------Di Maria-----------
    ---------------------------Mata------------------------
    ----------------Falcao-------van Persie--------
12 players with Mata in the lineup is OK. He could very much go invisible:rolleyes:

Seriously now, given the absentees, this lineup is good. Just tell us who should be taken out of it to have 11 players.

    -------------------DDG---------------------
    Rafael-------Jones----Smalling---Blackett
    ------------------Carrick-------------------
    ---------Di Maria----------Mata-----------
    ------------------Rooney------------------
    ----------Falcao-----------RVP-------------

Is what I want to see. It won't happen though.

Dont mind me, I just want free publicity, my agressive post is down to the fact I believe we either have inept footballers at this club or completely incompentent medical staff or just a manager who has far too many procedures before re-introducing a player back into the fold, my main frustration with LVG is his handling of Rafael, Shaw, Herrera, Falcao to be precise, similar to frustration with Moyes and his recklessness with Rio, Carrick,Rooney and RVP

Why is it United are always in a injury crisis? LVG basically always implies at pressers his job is not to inform the media, that its the media who have to inform and make headlines, yet a very basic such as telling an in house channel such as MUTV information about returning players is always muddled and riddled with mystery whether it's his distrust of the media or his english skillls, injury news from LVG never seems clear or uplifting, it's always bad and never a clear indication of a players progress. I want to know when Shaw is returning, when is Rafael coming back? Rojo? Smalling? Lingard? Fellaini,Herrera, Blind ?

Poor communication from coach to own fans, we wouldn't even know if Anderson was dead in a ditch gathering by the lack of information on that waster.

Oops Mata wasn't meant to be there originally. :wenger:
I was probably thinking about the diamond when I did that.

    dont you worry mate its an honest mistake, my team for the toon would be;

    --------- DDG
    Rafa Smalling Evans Rojo
    Herrera-Carrick-Di Maria
    -------Rooney
    ------------ Welbz

    :p
