A guy on Twitter has photos with some of the players at the Old Trafford Xmas party today. According to him Herrera said he's fit for Newcastle. Also Shaw should be ready for Spurs and Blind hopes to return in 2 weeks. Hope it's true.

Maybe LvG is trying to bamboozle the leak and Steve Bates. He certainly bamboozles me sometimes.:confused:

    Hopefully:

    de Gea
    Rafa Smalling Jones Young
    Carrick
    Valencia di Maria
    Rooney
    Van Persie Falcao

tbh I'd be happy with most lineups as long as we don't play 352

The questioning from the journalist about injuries was absolute shite.

He asked if any of the injured players are due to return then started to list some examples and included Di Maria. Van Gaal then replied "no I don't think any of them will make it, apart from maybe Chris Smalling"

Considering Di Maria had already returned from injury against Villa it makes it very ambiguous.

Fans want specific clear information about injuries but it doesn't sell papers so the journos aren't that bothered. A 'Van Gaal grateful for Fergie support' or 'Van Gaal spurns Fergie in 'he ish not part of my philoshophy' rant' is worth a thousand reliable lists of available and unavailable players.

I found the account on twitter, I think. The guy said everyone was there bar Januzaj...

Would be the ideal line up.

    -----------De Gea
    ----Jones - Evans - Blackett
    --Valencia------------------Young
    --------Carrick---- Rooney -
    ------------Di Maria -
    ------v. Persie - Falcao

    ----Jones - Evans - Blackett
    --Valencia------------------Young
    --------Carrick---
    - Rooney -
    ------------Di Maria -
    ------v. Persie - Falcao

I wouldn't say ideal at all.

We play Tottenham away within 2 days after Newcastle at home.

I would think we are highly unlikely to play all our key players in the game against Newcastle. There will be rotation. It will be interesting to see who gets rotated and who doesn't.

If Smalling is fit I would expect him to take Carrick's role with Carrick in midfield. If not, Blackett or McNair may start instead. Otherwise I don't see many changes from the Villa game. If there is any game in the next 3 where Young will play left back in a 4 this is it but I just cannot see it. I don't see them playing a back 4 again until at least one of Shaw, Rojo and Blind are fit.

Would be the ideal line up.

No ideal in playing this 3-5-2 thing.

    Louis Van Gaal Press Conference:

    Including his Christmas toast!

Is it okay to take a day off before the game? p.s It's the first time since 27 years!!
IMO no matter how hard we train today, it's still important to train the day before the game not letting the players join their families and girl friends.

Does one day make that much of a difference? The players are professionals at the top of their game, you expect them to behave in a certain way with their diets etc.

Then let's not forget the human element. How would most people feel if they had to work on Christmas day. It is better for some players with a family. They will feel less resentful and more relaxed, happy if you like. Mourinho is renowned for having a close relationship with his players, this type of thing only helps.

At the World Cup Rio Ferdinand spoke about how he went out and he found the dutch squad drinking responsibly at a bar. They were allowed and trusted. Then gave the example of how England treated their players at their camp (Capello was very strict) and how it made them feel.

It sounds like it's all part of Van Gaal's philosophy.

With the Spurs game coming up two days later, I prefer to rest RvP and I'll go with:

    Ddg

    Valencia Jones Evans Young

    Carrick
    Herrera Di MAria
    Mata

    Falcao Rooney

Exactly, it is a great move from the manager and in turn he'll get even more respect and affection from his players - which hopefully will turn into an even better performance on Friday.

Herrera is out. Our injuries don't give us much scope for ratation. Except he is willing to use players like januzaj and pereira who I believe should definitely feature against Newcastle. Spurs are game raising C*unts so I'm hoping from r a draw at leat there.

Hope Rooney goes easy on the bottle and the food these days:p

Im very curious to see what team LVG will pick for the Newcastle game since we play Tottenham only two days later
Some players must be rested against Newcastle.

Remember in 2008 we crushed them 6-1 on boxing day right ?

Let's get revenge from last year and win this game !

    De Gea

    Rafa
    Evans/Jones
    Blackett/Mc Nair
    Young

    Fletcher (no choice)
    Mata
    Di Maria

    Januzaj
    Falcao
    Wilson

6-0? Ronnie's first hatrick for us. Pretty sure it wasn't boxing day mind.

Judging by absentees I am hoping for this lineup.

    De Gea

    Rafael -- Jones -- Evans -- Young

    ----------Carrick ---------------
    Valencia -- --------Di Maria-------

    -----------Rooney--------------
    -------RVP ---------Falcao

EDIT - That is a poorly drawn 442 diamond.

    -------------Dave
    Valencia--Jones--Evans--Young
    ------------Carrick
    ------Rooney----Di Maria
    ------------Mata
    --------Falcao--RVP

Smalling next to Jones would increase my confidence but there is no telling if he is fit or not. I think Rooney next to Di Maria can work and Mata is better as a 10 rather than sitting deeper.

What a day that was. All in the second half. We should beat these regardless but these team have a habit of turning us against us.

It would be weird if he decides to play our only fit midfielder in defense. He will have himself to blame for another poor performance if he had lays that horrid formation.

3-5-2 has been getting him results, also we probably don't have the personal to play another formation right now, and Carrick has been brilliant in the defence, so I don't have an issue with him there.

It'll be 352 again I'm almost certain :boring:

Rafael was on the bench against Villa, so he may start him on Friday. If that happens Van Gaal may enough trust to put him and Young in a back 4, like with Shaw and Valencia against City.

That's why we must play the best team against Newcastle.......win against them and a draw at Tottenham would be "okay"

No win against Newcastle......then we're under massive pressure again

No 352, no Evans, no Di Maria on the wing. We need a really positive performance after that dour tripe we just saw.

I agree with what you are saying. But I'm sorry to say this, but I think this is what is likely to happen.

    Yes 352.
    Yes Evans.
Yes Di Maria on the wing.

LvG loves 352 and we have been beaten only once in the last 12 games (and that was with 10 men).
So, expect to see a whole lot more of 352.
I think that when all our key players are fit, we will revert to 4 at the back, with a diamond in the middle and Di Maria in midfield.
