City have lost their last two away Premier league matches and beat Sheffield United with the winner arriving in the 88th minute.

United receiving almighty trimming as some have predicted on here will say a lot more about United than it will City.
Doesn't matter, even with the trebles and endless league titles this is still their cup final. They will up their game. No chance they drop the same stinkshow as they did at Arsenal and no chance we'd contain them that well anyway.

We will not get this but I want to see this line up

    Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Reguilon
    Casemiro Amrabat
    Bruno
    Mount Hojlund Rashford

Mount can play wide and convert to a diamond when needed

Question is are we brave even to even watch it.

Aye aye aye this is not gonna be pretty.

I will definitely not be waking up at 2:30am to watch this game live, mostly because of work but also because I would rather not watch City dismantle us at Old Trafford yet again.

Just keep the score line respectable so when I wake up and see the final score it doesn’t ruin my day.

    ++++++++Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Reguilon
    +++++Casemiro Amrabat
    Mount Eriksen Garnacho
    +++++++Hojlund

    2-1 United

Putting the pessimistic opposite point of view we've probably not fully hit our stride yet this season. We played a good half against Brighton but then lost the grip in the second half and Brighton were a bit Unlucky to leave with nothing.
We're at YB Bern on their plastic pitch so would have liked to rotate out a few of the vital players but as Pep will want to sew up the CL group as soon as possible he'll probably roll the dice and go with a strong team.risking an injury or two.
Wouldn't like you lot to start Garnacho as he had a lot of success against us last season when he came on.
We expect to win but any thoughts of a massacre are wide of the mark for me.

A United win, followed by a loss to Fulham is my best guess.

I'd rather get smashed by City and thrash Fulham. The other way around would just end up helping Liverpool and Arsenal. Of course, would be nice to win both, but that's not our world anymore...

There is zero chance- ZERO chance- that Bruno is getting dropped for this, so we all might as well figure him into our teams.

    ------------------------Højlund-----------------------
    Rashford-----------------------------------Bruno
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    ------------------------Eriksen-----------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    --------------Amrabat------Case-----------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    Reguilon-------------------------------------Dalot
    ----------------Maguire----Varane---------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    ------------------------Onana-------------------------

-Garnacho on at the hour mark when Rashford has proven himself ineffectual yet again
-Mount on for Eriksen once he's knackered
-Antony on for Amrabat as an extra attacker when we're chasing it late

About 3 - 0 to city if we are lucky if nothing changes with how we have been playing all season so far

Newcastles Michael Oliver is on VAR so thats us probably getting nothing from them this weekend.

Referee: Paul Tierney (pictured). Assistants: Neil Davies, Scott Ledger. Fourth official: Craig Pawson. VAR: Michael Oliver. Assistant VAR: Stuart Burt.

I don't think they will batter us - they don't need to. Guardiola seems to be trying to win games early and then conserve energy by passing it around ad nauseam until the final whistle - no doubt saving themselves for later in the season.

They'll build up a two-goal lead in the first half, but rather than going for the jugular, I'd expect they will simply be content to let us chase the ball aimlessly for the rest of the match.

Can't really say I'm hopeful for this one. Offer a draw at this point and I think a lot of us would snap your hand off.

Only hope they don't score a stupid amount and just re-trash Onana's confidence to be honest.

Yeah but Rodri is back now, him and KDB out makes City very normal

our attack will look undeniably better with all the space that will be available, so we might respond with a goal when we're inevitably 2-3 goals down. I worry we will be pushed back to defend most of the time.

    Think ETH will go with

    Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Reguilon
    Casemiro
    Bruno Eriksen
    Antony Hojlund Rashford

I would really put Amrabat next to Casemiro for that extra protection on front of defence. Try to keep the nil/keep the scoreline down, frustrated them and hit them on the counter.

The England rugby team were expected by the media, and most fans to be fair, to get literally battered by the South Africans. They lost by one point froma questionable penalty. The England players stood up to be counted. Unfortunately, we don't have anyone to inspire our players to a least have a go. I worry about the scum element of City fans that will be chanting about Sir Bobby and the ensuing violence The bastards were at it at the weekend and City are 'Trying to indentify the fans and ban them for life'. Ha ha, just like they did for the coin throwers in 2012 when they found exactly none. Start Garnacho and Eriksen and attack them.

Starting XI should be something like

    Onana

    Dalot
    Varane
    Maguire
    Reguilon

    Amrabat
    Casemiro

    Mount

    Antony
    Hojlund
    Garnacho

    Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Reguilon
    Casemiro Amrabat
    Rashford Eriksen Garnacho
    Hojlund
Give them all a quick electric shock to the balls beforehand and pray to whatever god you believe in.

The team has a quasi small team mentality so might actually be up for it when the treble winners are in town, game raisers and all, and then lose the next game.

Not looking forward to this one. They’re not in their best form but still a lot stronger than us.

Sometimes the best form of defence is attack, if we can keep the ball in their half they shouldn't be able to score.
My main worries are that Maguire and Varane cannot match Haaland for pace, so he needs taking out of the game, I would put Amrabat on him.
There is no way Fernandes will be dropped, so the next biggest question is Antony or Mount.
I would confuse the F out of them, Antony on the left and Rashford wide on the right, Hojland in the middle.
Dalot and Requillon also wide, stretching them, and their midfield. pinning Walker in his own half will be essential.
    But that won't happen.
We will probably see a very similar 11

Posted this is another thread, but more apt in here:

I have to ask myself right now what I want from each component of the team, and then it more or less picks itself. This question is answered differently game to game. The challenges and expectations posed by Sheffield United are very different to Manchester City. This is why you have a squad of players, and why you rarely stick to the same line up game after game. Having an idea of your best XI is good, but using it to death makes you predictable and tired, and I think we've seen an abundance of that this season. Fergie was the master of rotation. A different XI for each occasion, tailored to the opposition. It's what made us so good.

So City, what do we want from the team? Well we know City are going to hog the ball, whether we like it or not. That's a given. We also know they are going to play a high line. That tells us two things. 1. When we get the ball we have to treat it with care, not waste possession because we won't get it very often. 2. We are going to pose our biggest threat on the counter at pace. So I want speed, directness and flair up front. In defence, I am not looking to play a patient passing game out from the back, because City press from the front better than anyone. I am looking for defensive solidity.

So my line up would be:

Onana - Amrabat, Varane, Maguire, Lindelof - Casemiro, Eriksen, Mount - Garnacho, Rashford, Hojlund

Dalot needs a rest. He's played every game and I prefer the combativeness of Amrabat against City and his ability to step into midfield. Then we've got three pure defenders in Varane, Maguire, Lindelof. In midfield I've sacrificed Bruno. Love the man but he's played every game, he gets overplayed, and no player should be a guaranteed start. But the main reason I've sacrificed him is because while he creates the best chances, he's also very careless with the ball. He's a high risk/high reward type of player. He's going to turn it over as much as he finds a team mate, because he's always looking for a killer pass. Against City that is going to hurt us, because it'll just come back at us constantly. Casemiro is a must to anchor that midfield, and Eriksen and Mount are ball handlers. They will keep possession and treat the ball with more care, and we are going to need that to take the pressure off. Eriksen is one of the best players in the league at breaking the lines with his passing, so I see him as vital to setting Rashord and Garnacho away.

Up front I want the pace and directness of Garnacho and Rashford. To stretch that back line and look to get in behind. It will be our primary threat. Hojlund is there for his ability to bring others into play and hold it up to take the pressure off.

On the bench that is going to leave us with some good options. Fernandes, Martial, McTominay, Antony etc.

Is this the right line up? I'm not sure. Won't know until we play, but what it represents is this need to rotate and tailor our game for the occasion. I feel like Erik is so desperate to succeed that he is putting his best XI available out every game and he's running them into the ground. And just because Bruno, for example, is the captain and maybe best player, doesn't mean he has to play every game, or is right for every game. We have to start looking at the season as the collection of 60+ matches that it is, and utilise the squad better. Everything about this club is viewed with short-termism in mind and not holistically. And that seems to have spread to the manager. He needs to show more faith in his squad, start rotating, and start tailoring his line ups and the way we play to unqiue challenges of each opponent.

When we tried to match them away with two wingers and Bruno we lost 6-3. In the next two games (at home and FA Cup) we placed a third midfielder and sent Bruno to the right. I would not expect something different. He has not dropped Rashford, Bruno till now and he will not do that against City where we will have just moments.

It will be the below. Maybe Mount instead of Amrabat (or later on) and switch position with Eriksen.

    Onana
    Dalot Varane Maguire Reguilon
    Casemiro Amrabat
    Bruno Eriksen Rashford
    Hojlund

I just hope we replicate the performance of last year at Old Trafford. We were compact, our lines were pretty close and the players could support defensively each other and we countered so smartly that we should be ahead at first half.
