We had Mctominay in those games though. This will be a different test. Also Lingard was key to our last win against City, but his form is terrible.
Where as I agree on Mctominay being vital, he was amazing breaking up the play, I feel Martial was key to these games, as feeding him the ball to feet from deep is what is slicing these teams open. Jesse adds to this, as we seen against Spurs last year, but this year Tony has truly taken that mantle on his own in this counter set up. His creativity along with quick inter-changable passing with Rashford will feed us chances against their back line.

My worry is being over ran without Scott in there but I shall give Matic the benefit of the doubt as he has been much improved. Also we still have Fred, almost MotM every game recently. Hope my friend, I feel Ole has this team locked and ready for games like this.

    Gone with

    De Gea

    AWB Lindelof Jones Young

    Fred Matic Pereira

    Greenwood Martial Rashford

We will draw I think. When nobody expects anything from this team they turn up and the minute they are expected to win they collapse under the pressure.

Going to this. First derby. Expecting a battering but will be an experience nonetheless!
Nice, hope you encourage the players to fight-on. Would love it if we chanted Attack Attack Attack all through the game, wonder how it would affect us and the opposition...

I don't know why but I have a good feeling about tonight's game.

    C'mon United!!!

I think Guardiola will change up the tactics, it was too easy for us to counter in the last game.

My guess is Mahrez will play on the right instead of B. Silva and will pose a much bigger threat. Aguero will also start. Still, a midfield of Rodri / KdB / D. Silva can be bypassed fairly easily and they haven't sorted out their CB woes yet, so I'm optimistic.

    2-1 United.

True so far, but sometimes better team simply reverts to winning I am afraid. Just like any game in which Matic starts in midfield, I've a hard time gathering any confidence.

Difficult to see us beating Citeh twice in four weeks - we're not that good even with a full squad.

I'll be happy with a draw and then lets get everyone fit for the second leg and give it a real go.

Without Martial that's a tougher game.
I hope Greenwood steps up. We know he can, but he was super disappointing against Wolves. His chance to fix it in the center of the attack, today.

I also hope Garner and Gomes starts today, instead of Matic and Pereira. I know Ole won't do it but would love to. There are rumors Barcelona want him (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...ttled-Manchester-Utd-starlet-Angel-Gomes.html). Honestly, I haven't seen game from Gomes to understand why he would be wanted by Barca, but would love to be proven wrong.

Martial and lingard both unfit according to sky sports news at 6

FFS! Solskjaer made a big song and dance about our fitness levels when he got the gig and we’ve suffered nothing but injury after injury since. We run (a bit, but not by much, mind) more under Solskjaer than we did Mourinho but our conditioning coaches should’ve sorted this issue by now and the players should be well used to the manager’s demands a full thirteen months into the job. It’s ridiculous.

Don't worry dude, I don't sit there quiet, I'll try get the fans going. Here's for an electric atmosphere.

I believe the issue currently is flu/cold, so not much fitness coaches can do about that in particular.

That said - yes, in general our fitness staff and how often our players are injured, is concerning.

    They were both ill...

The only significant muscle injuries I can think of were Martial and Shaw the rest have mostly been impact injuries.

Question to people who regularly go to the games. Do the players feel the pressure from the fans on the field when they are fecking around? I don't mean that you should not support them and cheer them on when they are down. But when they clearly don't show up, like in the game with Arsenal and Watford - do they get booed? Do they feel anger? Or all they ever get is positivity or neutral?

Managed to bag a freebie ticket at the last minute. I want to see a Lingard hat trick.

Fans can be influenced by the performance. Shite performance can make the fans go quiet as there's nothing to shout about.

I think players probably feel the most from the fans when they're chasing 3-2 or 2-1.

Garner started yesterday in the under 23 match. He won't play

OT isn’t really a place that boos often. You might have heard some boos if the arsenal first half was at OT. More the crowd doesn’t chant as much and you hear more groans when people misplace passes etc
That being said, I remember one of the best atmospheres I was part of was being in the stretford end when we lost 3-0 way back under Moyes. For the last ten minutes it was just none stop ‘20 times’ and people weren’t even watching the match, it was a weird one - almost a party atmosphere you would get if we were on our way to winning the league.

At least Martial was just photographed arriving to OT with the squad. Then again the 3-4 that drop from the extended squad always arrive with the team and get to the dressing room even if they would just watch the match in the stands. But it looks like Martial is fit to be at least in the 18.

    Maguire not spotted arriving

Harry Maguire was spotted at the team hotel earlier, but has not been spotted getting off the United team bus. There is every chance he came to Old Trafford early for a fitness test, but official team news will be with us shortly.

    Edit:

    Rashford to captain United tonight?

MUTV also suggest Rashford could captain United tonight.

...so it could very well be that we’ll witness Phil Jones vs Aguero tonight.

It has at least been better this season I think compared to other years. Although not sure what the hell is going on with Pogba though. Mctominay seem to be just some bad luck. Jones seem to have been fit for some time now, but never gets to play anyway.
Of course we still have Bailly gone forever and not sure what is going on with him.

    A shameful 22 out of 34.

    That was frustratingly difficult.
18 out of 34 because I could not spell correctly some, and then, I completely forgot some... ashamed of myself! But to be honest, I didn't even remember RVP scored, or that Nasri scored against us!

What is Jones record against City? I don't remember if he played in the 6-1 game in his first season here. Under LVG when we won I think he played. I don't think he played against him in the last two seasons, but could be wrong. Think it was Smalling and Lindelöf last season.

So that's Pogba, Mctominay, Martial, Maguire and Lingard all out injured.

We're fast approaching our second injury crisis of the season and we're barely halfway through it.
