Sancho is away with England U17s. Reckon it will be Adarabioyo to make the bench (is he fit?)

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata...............Martial
    Rashford
    Subs: Memphis, Mkhitaryan, TFM
Score: 2-1 United (Martial, Lingard, Ihenacho)

I reckon we'll get a pretty stiff match with little risks taken. Both teams are in some terrible form and neither will want to lose by another big margin.

Nah, City are on a bit of a wobble - they've had a few poor results, but they played reasonably well against Barca - the red-card changed that. They played well against Everton, the two penalties were an anomaly. Compare that to our performances against Watford, against City, against Feyenoord, against Chelsea - we've not really had a single great performance this season - we've flattered to deceive at our best, and at times been abject. Unless Pep makes a lot of changes I'm expecting a comfortable City victory tonight... just to cap off a really shit Wednesday

Aah didn't know Sancho was missing. He's done some training with first squad recently so thought he may get some bench experience.

Is it wrong that I am not looking forward to this match at all?

I mean I have zero interest. Even during LVGs time I was always excited to see the young players.

I feel nothing. Its like after sunday I was lobotomized and lost all my passion for the game in the process.

No word from Mourinho/United on team for this game, right?

Was wondering the same. Can't find anything. Guardiola did a proper press conference (De Bruyne definitely out) but nothing from Mourinho.
I hope we rest both Zlatan and Pogba (along with Rooney of course) and see if we can have better buildups in attack. Martial, Rashford, Mkhi, Mata as front 4 will be interesting.

It'd be tough for City to mark all 12 of 'em.

We better win this to restore some confidence in the team and manager. After the 0-4 trashing fans deserve some positives.

On the one hand I want us to play the reserve, because it's the League Cup, in this game but that's something we can't really afford after our game against Chelsea. Losing high against City at this stage would be a disaster.

On the other hand it's not guatanteed we won't lose big with our first eleven on the pitch. What the hell play the kids and give the rest of the team a little rest. Maybe the youngsters can surprise us and will do well, who knows?

Can anyone explain why Pep did a proper 30 minute press conference for this and Jose has not? Are they optional for league cup games?

They are, apparently. Wenger has skipped a couple over the last two seasons too. Besides, what's the point? He's going to hold a presser tomorrow for the PL game on Saturday and we all know that all the questions would have been about the thrashing in London. Tomorrow he'll either have something positive to say or he'll, at least, have to face only one round of "United in crisis" themed questions.

    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Tuanz Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera Mata
    Mikhi
    Rashford Martial

That isn't what I think will be played, but what I'd like, I'd imagine it will be similar to:

    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Blind Shaw
    Herrera Fellaini Pogba
    Lingard Rooney Martial

Fellaini was taken off on Sunday because he was injured not crap.

I don't see how we can win this. We're going to have rojo at the back against city at this rate, since Jose has been bullying shaw.

I'd call this game a write off, put out the europa league side (they might actually be better to be fair) and accept the loss in preparation for clawing back some PL points.

But of course, will be over the moon to be proven wrong.

    My team although highly unlikely;

    ------------De Gea
    --Valencia Smalling Blind Shaw
    -----Herrera Carrick Pogba
    ---Mkhitaryan Rashford Martial

No doubt we'll probably see the likes of Romero, Rojo, Fellaini (if fit), Lingard and Young. I would go with strong team but drop Zlatan,
then have Rooney, Mata, Zlatan to call upon from bench as I doubt Micky can last more than an hour.
I think pace is key against City who are vulnerable at the back, no doubt they will be very good going forward as always so I think for us to come out on top we'll need to score three in my opinion. 3-2

However with the probable line up of slow asses and the defence confidence in the shitter, I can easily see us losing 1-3 or 1-4.

I'm not looking forward to this one, bith teams have been shit lately but we're worse. City to win 1-0.

I just hope Jose does the right thing by 'rewarding' Smalling for his performance with a day off. We just really need to put in a good performance especially against City. Can't take more humiliation. Thankfully City are also going through a mini blip so we should be able to get through this. Difficult to call the result till lineups are announced.

I'm starting to look forward to this game, I guess I'm a bit of a sadist.

Although, our defensive situation gives me a stomach ache.

This is a hard game to predict, I found it almost impossible to put in a lineup prediction to begin with. Really not sure how JM will approach this game, but Guardiola is talking as though he will field a strong lineup, so it depends whether Mourinho bears this in mind or does his own thing. An early goal for City could mean catastrophe, both teams are vulnerable at the back but City are more capable of scoring goals to dig themselves out of a hole than United just now. If it finished 2-2 and went to penalties or City won 3-2 I wouldn't be surprised.

    Want to see;

    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Blind Shaw
    Carrick/TFM
    Pogba Herrera
    Micky Rashford Martial

    Will see;

    Valencia Smalling Blind Shaw
    Herrera
    Fellaini Pogba
    Lingard Zlatan Rashford

Bookmakers seem to not feel the notion of amazing, incredible, wonderful City who are going to wipe the floor with miserable United that Caf seem to feel. Also predicting this to be a close game that could go either way.

If you think we're a little bit uptight about our situation, it must be tenfold for the bitters and pup gladioli. I'd hide if I was part of his medical team.... he might be looking for some whipping boys by the end of it.

Why? I haven't been in the loop of what's going on over there.

Any word on how serious Jose will take this yet?

I'm sure Shaw and Carrick will come in, along with either Darmian or Fosu-Mensah. Romero may get the nod in goal, but the rest is pretty open. I'd probably play Mkhitaryan, Mata and Young however.

Romero; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Shaw; Carrick, Schneiderlin; Mkhitaryan, Mata, Young; Martial

de Gea; Fosu-Mensah, Rojo; Pogba; Rooney, Rashford, Ibrahimovic

Valencia and Herrera are the only two I think are deserving of being rested on some form of merit right now.

I am absolutely buzzing about this game. Got my tickets and gonna start slowly making my way to Old Trafford soon. A day off on derby day. What a result.

Yeah it must be awful being top of the league.
