Drop the players who have not been performing. I don't even care if that means dropping Pogba and Zlatan. Zlatan's been appalling and Pogba needs a rest. No more Fellaini please.

Midfield three of Herrera, Timbo and Carrick should do it.

    Romero
    Darmian--Smalling--Blind--Shaw
    Mata--Carrick--Schneiderlin
    Young--Martial--Memphis

subs: Johnstone, Rojo, TFM, Herrera, Mkhitaryan, Rashford, Ibrahimovic

    I want:

    De Gea
    Valencia---Smalling---Blind---Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera---Pogba
    Young---Rashford---Martial
Is Schneiderlin fit? Frankly I've lost track. No idea what's going on with Mkhitaryan either, so I've left them both out. Young could be Lingard - much of a muchness really.

My view now is that this is potentially the strongest team we have available, so I'd put them out against City in the hope that the time together benefits us more than the confidence-knock of the game will inevitably be.

Then rest the most important of the above players (Valencia, Carrick, Herrera, Blind and Rashford I'm thinking) against Burnley in the league, so hopefully we can get a performance in the Europa League, which should be the competition for us to prioritise right now.

Please try Memphis - Mata - Mhki and Martial as striker!!

city not looking great but you know what we're like in these games, ready and raring to boost their confidence with one of our famous inept and gutless derby displays. Be interesting to see the teams both managers use, will Toure play? will Rooney play? They'll probably stuff us but I don't know if many fecks will be given.

I remember Sir Alex a few times changed the whole team after a shambolic defeat. I wouldn't be opposed to try something similar this game.

Let them sit on the bench and think about why they didn't concentrate today.

Let Memphis, Carrick, TFM, Schneiderin, Rojo, Shaw and Young play. Mkhitaryan if fit

Slim to none chance of this happening, but I'd like to see TFM get 30-35 minutes at CM together with Pogba.

I dont care a jot about this. Get it out of the way and sort ourselves out in the league. Same goes for the Europa League.

City aren't in the best of forum either. Not overly pushed about this competition, as always, but Jose does put a lot of stock into trying to win a trophy in his first year at a club -- this competition with Chelsea, for instance.

Normally I'd want us to play a complete second or third string side, but that's just not possible considering the opposition and the occasion (following the Chelsea match). All in all, far more concerned with winning our next three league games, but hopeful we can get a bit of revenge for the 2-1.

Just tighten it up, I don't care if we get criticised. Do what Fergie did after the 6-1, and grind out a few 1-0s.

    Romero
    Darmian Rojo Smalling Shaw
    Pogba Morgan
    Lingard Rooney Martial
    Rashford

Play the same fecking team as vs chelsea. The players wontbbe tired. They havent played since fenerbache anyways. I only hope for Mkhitarayan to be on the bench but one man wont do much. Expect us to be battered again. City may not have won in 5 games, but its not because they havent created. I think we are comfortably the worst side of the two and it ll be a miracle if we can win this.

I would go with big changes in yesterday's team. This competition is lowest priority. City too will be making changes given they have Barca next midweek, have a PL away game in between and have some defensive injuries to fullbacks.
It is good opportunity to play say Martial or Rashford up top, play Micki, play TFM and see if these changes offer something exciting, something different. If they do, the players involved can stake a claim to start vs Burnley.

If Agüero and KdB are fit for this one, then this will be disastrous. I cannot see City not scoring at least 2-3 goals. However, what will Pogba or Ibra do on the other end?

One less competition to worry about clogging up the schedule.
People saying this team don't have a winning mentality. Getting knocked out of every cup competition is not going to help. They need to start on a winning streak, not a not losing streak, a winning streak.

Although the perverse part of me would love both sides to put out their kids to ruin Sky's big build up to the game.

Just play an old fashioned 442. Worth a try.
Been wondering about this myself. It's clear playing this one striker system doesn't work with our personnel. So why not try this? Heck, I wouldn't be opposed to 3-5-2 even with our dodgy defenders. At least I think it would allow us to create more chances.
Just get rid of the 4-2-3-1 shit which ain't working in proper games.

This is going to hurt, but we need to get a team out there who can give City some problems at least.

I'd go with 4-4-2 as well, although it'll leave Pogba at a disadvantage, we just need to start playing better.

    De Gea
    Valencia - Smalling - Blind - Shaw
    Mkhitaryan - Herrera - Pogba - Martial
    Zlatan - Rashford
Zlatan naturally drops deeper anyway to link play, we might need Carrick instead of one of the MF I put in though?

Anyone thinks we should employ 3 up front like Southampton and press from the front? Without zlatan or Rooney of course

    What i would do

    ---------Rashford---------
    Martial----mata------Mkhitarayan----
    ------Pogba-----herrera/carrick-------
    ---anyonewhocandefendandisnotsht-----

Yes ibra goes out but that is a necessary step right now. Have to try something new. This team will have lots of energy, I think we really lack energy. We have too many walkers, this team will run and have high energy great pace and creativity. I would want carrick to start over herrera, may be herrera comes on after 60 mins and alternate them for games.

    • Don't start Lingard
    • Don't play Fellaini
    • Mata in the first XI
    • Don't play Rashford as a defensive winger
    • Don't play Zlatan as a solo striker

I expect 4/5 of those criterias still not being fulfilled. Mou really needs to get his head straight.

After Yesterday's debacle, expect players and manager to be 100% motivated for this.

Showed City too much respect in the league fixture. This is Guardiola's Berties, not his Barca or Bayern.

2-1 United. Get it right up them.

Can we just take the onus to attack this time around? Press them like there is no tomorrow and work your ass off for the shirt. After yesterday, it's the least our fans deserve after they sang their bollocks off for the players.

So hard to be optimistic with this. Hope is slowly being drained out of me. By the way, totally forgotten, but if it is a draw, does it go straight to penalties...if so perhaps there is a little hope...
