How Rooney will get away with that half O have no idea. Of he stays on he needs to have a game of his life.

They can't get the ball of Pogba but we need to get him on the ball more, he drove the ball a few times up towarfs there area but the receiving players touch let them down.

No team can beat Pep's team from word go, probably apart from barca. Its about standing ground ,taking minimal damage and gradually growing into the game. Thats how you beat pep and we're doing that.

Ibra should have scored that. No idea why he tried that panick flick towards goal. Could have taken a touch and smashed it in.

Still, delighted to go into half time just a goal down. We were completrly outclassed for 40 minutes. Jose more than anyone else needs to turn up today. Get martial on the left and let's start hurting their fullbacks. And Mata or Rashford on the right.

But more importantly we need to start playing some football. In that half one team played proper football while the other is just hoping for stuff to come off.

Agree with all this. We probably need to make 3 changes (the two you mentioned plus smalling) but this is obviously unrealistic.

    Rooney needs to go

The lack of a not-gonna-happen press hasn't been helped by the fact that we have quite simply played really poorly. Some players just been straightforward abysmal.

From back to front we have been terrible yet we are still in the game. If we can pick it up in the second half then I think we can get something from this.

People are going a bit OTT, they were better, we were much worse and made them look better than they are, but some posts how they "outclassed" us, bloody hell!
What else do they need to do to label it outclassing us? We've been played off the park.

It's really not, he was abysmal. Could barely control thr ball less alone pass.
He was a non entity most of the half, yes, but Lingard barely completed a pass and lost the ball everytime he touched it. Rooney has fecked up great counter attacking opportunities from poor touches and awful passes. Mkhi has been poor indeed, but not as bad as these 2. Mkhi looked bright in the first 10 minutes and faded badly after.

My god that was embarrassing. Struggling to say anyone played well that half. It's a miracle we are only 1 down. We surely can't played that bad again. I hope. Lingard has been an embarrassment. Has to come off for Rashford.

i would bring smalling on for fellaini and put blind in midifield. this is a game for martial he should be on

No comments regarding our defence? Shaw was too casual at times.

We're not pressing right, so it's leaving the back four backed up with acres of space in front of them for City attackers. Shaw is still doing well 1on1, but the midfielders need to stop leaving the back 4 so exposed to make risky marking choices.

Pogba really needs to step up. He is supposed to be the best player on the pitch bar DDG.
He was our best player in the first half? If the others didn't give the ball away as soon as it was passed to them we might of created a few more chances.

Those 4 have done alright both on the ball and for pressing. Its the wingers that have had shockers, giving it away constantly and not letting us have proper counters.
I think, as a whole, we've been horrendous both on the ball and pressing as a unit. I can't praise anyone bar Shaw, Valencia and Fellaini. Bar his well taken goal, Zlatan's been invisible, which isn't surprising considering he's rubbish under pressure, but still. I just don't think José's selection has helped at all despite City deserving their praise.

I think it is strange that no one writes that Pogba should play in Rooneys position. It is really waste of talent to play him that deep.

Goodness me, Lingard has been dreadful, and I like the kid. Valencia getting nutmegged should be a highlight for anyone who thinks he's the second best RB in the league should be made to watch that over and over like in Clockwork Orange. Rooney at times has been shite, too.

Valencia has been decent, absolutley stupid to mention him as one of the problems.

Blind on the other hand, responsible for both goals of City.

In: Rashford and Martial. Now Fellainilovers is he like Keane or Robson. He can feck off or maybe the fecking idiot picking him should feck off. Rashford scored 3 and Martial scored his first for his country but let's put a player on who hasn't played for 4 weeks. fecking furious but I will defend Rooney he atleast knows what this means to the fans. Rash Tony and Herrera in. Lingard micki out. Fellaini feck off to belgium

Oh do watch the game.. Rooney isn't the problem

What a crazy, loose finish to that half. We really should be level.

Honestly, but for Bravo gifting us a goal, we were taught a lesson in that first half. Really, really poor. Jose's team selection and formation have backfired. Lingard and Mykhitaryn have been liabilities. It's hard to be too critical given their lack of playing time this season, but neither did a single positive thing. There's no excusing some of their touches. Blind is showing yet again why he's not good enough to play centre back for a top, top club. The first goal wasn't entirely his fault, as Bailly needed to at least challenge for the first ball, but he fell asleep for the second goal. Good for 80% of the games we'll play, but found lacking when the rubber meets the road.

Our lack of pace in midfield is killing us. It's just too easy for City to cut through us. That needs to change.

Why is Rooney completely incapable of delivering a ball with whip and pace? His moon balls from corners and set pieces is really doing my head in!

    We're still in this!

Feck off with blind overating I have had it

Fecking hell, the knee jerk is ridiculous.

Blind has been very good this season and was good last year too.

Regardless, even his staunchest critics admit he is an intelligent ball player.

As a number 10 Rooney is critical to this team but he doesn't do anything a number 10 should do. Yeah. sure he hasn't been the worse player on the pitch but he's completely ineffective in that role and it massively handicaps us week in week out.
Mourinho should have left him as a deep CM, about the one good thing from LVG's reign was him turning Rooney into a deep midfielder.

I reckon in this match he is the least of our worries.

Oh wow. The world wanted a match. Boy has it got one. My thoughts:

    - We actually started the better team, but it was inevitable that we'd end up on the back foot once City got their passing rythm together. We weren't really getting overwhelmed until after the first goal, which was unforgivable from a defensive perspective, but ironically came from us pressing City and forcing them to play long.
    - It's notable that for all their dominance in possession, City only created two clear-cut chances. Unfortunately for us, they scored from both of them.
    - Our best player in the first half has been (shock horror) Wayne Rooney! Rolling back the years (the last few anyway) in terms of his sharpness both on and off the ball.
    - Changes need to be made if not at half-time, then certainly early in the second half, but luckily we have some serious quality on the bench; players who can change the game. We are very much in this.

Mourinho has to get these players up for the second half. Biggest moment of his United tenure so far.

Still early days, but he does not play like a £100 million player.

For all the power and strength he has, he's been dominated.

He'll never play like a 100m player, that's just how much we had to pay to get him. He's still a damn good midfielder though, and better than what he's shown today. No one looks that good when your team doesn't have the ball.
