Good line-up. Jose going with more pace on the wings. Would've preferred Mata for Rooney. The bench has plenty of options if needed.

Good team, would have been perfect with Martial instead of Rooney.

    No Martial :(

He's going to have a poor second season, isn't he? :(

Can someone post the team rather than the tweet
#mufc XI vs Man City: De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Shaw; Fellaini, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Rooney, Lingard; Ibrahimovic

Excellent lineup. Lingard and Miki providing that pace. Shame for Martial but hopefully he comes on with a point to prove, such is life with a competitive squad

I would have been much more delighted with Martial instead of Rooney. But with Martial's recent form, can not complain too much.

    Let's do it boys!

Subs: Romero, Smalling, Herrera, Mata, Schneiderlin, Martial, Rashford

Right time to rest Martial IMO. Could be a great impact player along with Rashford today.

Great to see Mkhicky starting today too.

Wow, did anyone predict that Lingard would start? Still, looks like a strong team, and there's some genuine game-changers on that bench.

    City XI:

    Bravo;

    Sagna - Stones - Otamendi - Kolarov

    Fernandinho

Sterling - De Bruyne - Silva - Nolito

    Iheanacho

FFS Rooney!!!! He's a bloody pub level player!! The state of that touch just there. Rooneys given the ball away 12 times already!

So all of our summer signings start. Just goes to show how highly Mourinho rates Lingard.
Not necessarily. Martial hasn't been in the best of for, to be honest. Lingard has reportedly been fit for the last two premier league games, so I think he'd rather have started Martial, if he could rely on him at this point in time.

You've said the same for the past 3 games. I sincerely hope this is a jinxing tactic, otherwise your lack of spine is concerning.
To be fair, City did win their past three games.

Bold to have both wingers be players that haven't had much football... hopefully it works. Can see Lingard having a poor day though (don't rule out a goal mind you)

Ok, feeling more confident now, that's a sensible lineup. I'd have started one of Martial and Rashford (in place of Rooney, ideally, with Miki moving central), but bringing them off the bench against tired legs makes obvious tactical sense. Lingard and Miki, between them, offer enough defensive energy and attacking pace and directness to offset having Ibra and Rooney on the pitch together.

He's being dropped rather than rested I think. Not really a surprise, not looked great so far this season

Lingard has been working every day with Mourinho over the international break. I expected him to start plus he understands this fixture.
