 Typical Liverpool. Win three games in a row and ye are Barcelona. Id be confident of beating Liverpool but doubt we'll go through. So cop on about the damaging confidence ya clown.

It reads "I hope we go for the knockout blow" which basically means I hope we still try to win the game and don't play not to lose. But if you can transform that to "you think you're Barcelona after three wins in a row", okay then.

Thinking ya could 'damage our confidence'. That's what I meant. Ye are rubbish urselves.

I think we'll put a spirited fight but fall short.
That's what I think. We never do it easy so I think something like 2-1 to United will be the result on the night.

I still don't think either of us is capable of winning the competition but it'll feel terrible if we go out following such a strong first leg.

this is where the zero ambition to score a goal against liverpool at home really kicks us in the arse before we can even get on the pitch. if they score just one goal on thursday we need to score 4.

    de Gea

    Darmian
    Smalling
    Blind
    Marcos Rojo

    Schneiderlin
    Schweinsteiger

    Memphis
    Herrera
    Mata

    Martial

SUBS: S. Romero, Valencia, Carrick, Fellaini, Lingard, Januzaj, Rashford.

If we start Fellaini in midfield again we'll get beat on the night as well.

Start with Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Herrera as a three; with a front three who can score goals* and we have a slim chance.

    * I'd drop Lingard and play Mata on the right with Martial on the left and Rashford up front.

I'm an optimist, hopeful we can turn it around on Thursday.

    My predicted (hopeful) line-up:

    De Gea

    Varela
    Smalling
    Blind
    Rojo

    Schweinsteiger
    Herrera

    Lingard
    Mata
    Martial

    Rashford

    Predicted result: 3-0 to us.

In my opinion Herrera must start, adds some much needed drive and passion in our midfield. Schweinsteiger is also needed for the composure and class he can bring. We need to target Moreno, I was bamboozled we didn't in the prior fixture; Rashford drifting wide, lingard and Varela need to hassle him. Their centre backs are poor and can be exploited with pace. Mignolet is a travesty waiting to happen in goal - we must test him this time around. This also relies on De Gea having another worldie.

I'm looking forward to the fixture - the atmosphere will be buzzing and even LvG is aware we must attack from the get-go.

Hurrah Fellaini is not banned! Best news to begin the week. :D

I just can't see Liverpool with Firminio, Coutinho and Sturridge failing to score at least once

His remarks about the Fellaini sub and that he did what he wanted makes me worry that he will play him to sock it to the crowd. On his own head be it.

Dreading this game. Praying to God for a win. This is the first time we have played Liverpool in European competition. They will not let us forget it if they knock us out, Europa League or not. If we fail to win this I'm going to be livid...

...and then we gotta go play City.

My money is on Fellaini and Valencia starting. It's like Moyes never left!

That's the exact line-up I would choose. Game plan sounds decent, too, and I certainly wouldn't mind the predicted result. :)

Not looking forward to the game. None of the players are match winners for United. If Liverpool score. We cannot score 4 goals. The second goal at Anfield knocked United out.

The sooner this game is over the better. I can't see us getting through so we need to concentrate on City at the weekend and then the FA cup replay.

I'm going to live in hope(at least for the next few days)that we can turn this around.
Confident,no but who knows what may happen, yes we will need a bit of luck along the way and not concede in the match at all but stranger things have happened.

Predicted a 1-2 loss mostly because I'm pissed off at how things are going and I hate seeing Van C*nt's idiotic face. I also don't think we have any realistic chances of progressing, but like in any other United game, I can't help but hope we make it through.

It's a home game in Europe and I expect us to win it. Regardless of what's happened this year I expect the players and match going fans to be up for it - thankfully that excludes many of the moaners who post in here. We've done well enough in the big games this year and I expect that to continue. If we score first, I expect Liverpool will implode...

I think Schweinsteiger will start,at least I hope he does,I know he hasn't been great this season but he did make a difference when he came on on Sunday and his experience could be vital here.....keep it tight and we have a real chance.

No way we're going through. This team just doesn't have the fighting spirit of United teams of old. We start games confidently, but crumble at the first sign of danger. Remember when the kitchen sink was thrown if we were ever behind in a game? Now we just pass the ball around like we're up 3-0.

Is Smalling going to boss Sturridge? Is Rojo going to dominate Firmino? Is Memphis going to trouble Moreno? Does Carrick have the legs to battle Can?

I think the best we're going to get is a score draw, maybe 1-1. At least we'll have more of a rest between games I guess.

    Indeed!

What's with all the "ye and ya's" - don't they teach you proper words at school?

I don't mean to talk smack but your team is seriously awful on paper these days. Your attacking options are way below what they should be. There is Mata, Martial (who should be in a role Welbeck was under ferguson, not your primary attacker) and then just a bunch of kids who are not ready to carry that burden by any stretch.

DDG and Smalling aside, your defence is completely forgettable.

There's loads of players getting regular starts who should be wondering if they are good enough to even be backup for such a club. Squad overall is decent, but the drop in quality in the starting XI in the last few years has been immense. And no one except DDG and Smalling have really improved as players after ferguson left.

I should contextualise a bit: It's not actually awful. Stick a manager in there who will have them play to their potential and add a star or two, and that's a team that has as good as chance as any other of making top four. Still some way of a proper title challenge though unless you get in a manager who can make them a fair bit more than the sum of its parts too.

Just a bit surprising to me how different this side is from just a few years ago.

    No you were fair enough

We would never have relied on a 18 or20 year old strikers under Fergie - we shouldn't be now

We've a lot of squad type players... we need a new manager and 4/5 first team players to add straight in so that we can help Martial/Rashford/Memphis etc to settle in properly

2-0 is always a dangerous lead in football, but unless we score early and obviously first, it's almost hopeless. Liverpool will gradually go deeper into their cave to protect the lead as the game progresses.

I can see us getting an early goal. I don't know what I care more about, advancing in the competition or just seeing a genuine reaction from us in the first half. This is the game to come out all guns blazing, so I just want to see that.
