So Martial plays ok in a couple of meaningless friendlies & all of sudden he is a better player than Ronaldo, yeah, right, maybe he should have shown that on the pitch for the past two years.
    Ronaldo is better than Martial.

But you can make a strong argument that as a team we are better with Martial. He actually plays with Rashford and Sancho, for a start, rather than basically for himself.

It is a team game. Individual quality is not the reason we are so rubbish.

Plus of course there is the preseason issue as mentioned already.

    I'm ready.. :D

Did you just reveal your exact location on one of the creepiest forums in existence?

It's an indictment of how bad we are that Pool are missing so many important players and I still expect them to beat us.

Please please please just put some effort in. Just any sign of improvement. No howlers, stay tight at the back and try and build on that.

Or concede early and implode. I’m struggling to see a middle ground.

Lets hope there's going to be a day soon when united supporters don't have to approach liverpool match with any skepticism. United become so good that majority will predict a win. Let's hope for the best.

I think in this game you'll need some physicality in midfield. Not sure who they will start but the likes of Thiago, Henderson, Fabinho will put themselves about.
You could be right. Then we might look at McT starting. Thiago still injured, luckily.

Maguire and Ronaldo 'dropped' in team leak

    A team has leaked... although it's unconfirmed if this is the definite starting XI;

De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.

Again, this is an unconfirmed XI and sometimes these leaks feature errors.

The team will be confirmed at 7pm.

Statistics nonces will probably make me look foolish after this but from the ‘eye test’, Shaw generally tends to do well against Salah. I know Shaw has been atrocious this year to date (and for a large portion of last season, too) but it’s a big ask of Malacia to go straight in against a dangerous opponent like Salah, IMO.

I like the look of Malacia a lot but Salah does not track back and ‘cheats’ a great deal in defence and I feel Malacia bombing forward exuberantly and naively will leave us prone to a classic hoofball counterattack by the Scousers.

It’s a huge call for Ten Hag. Sometimes players in bad form (e.g. Shaw) perform well out of the blue when playing opponents they traditionally do well against. Origi v Everton practically every season being a case in point.

Shaw usually does well against Salah-- I know Shaw has been MoTM at least twice vs Pool. Also feels tough to throw Malacia out there against Pool for his 1st start bc it could get ugly. If United get run over and Shaw plays badly-- Shaw can take it. If United get run over and Malacia plays badly---it could be a little rough for him with all the criticism. You never want the first start for a young player on a new team to be vs your biggest rival and potentially an arse whooping. Feels like better options coming up for Malacia's 1st start---either the game vs Southampton or midweek Thursday game vs Leicester.

That said-- I'm normally wrong on lineups, so Malacia will probably start.

Very predictable if true. Once I heard Varane and Martinez were training together that was obvious and McFred in one last hurrah

McFred? That'll go down well

Also, what's with the leaks? I thought we stamped that out already.

Ah, so we’re opting for the “no midfield” option yet again. Fun.

If true, that's just leaving the defence and attack hung up to dry with a terrible midfield so pointless dropping Maguire

What the feck is a “statistics nonce” :nervous:

This team would get a result if true, second half we can bring in Ronaldo, Eriksen and DVB if need be?

Varane and Martinez had to happen, a more balanced partnersip with recovery pace in Varane and Martinez looking to be super aggressive in winning the ball.

Martinez could arrive tonight, Liverpool put a lot of crosses in but they aren't going to be just lumping the ball in his general direction playing off the second ball, going to be a different type of test and one he could excel in.

I think we'll play a low block and try hit them on the break.
