wow. amazing how sky is trying to paint a league cup as a bigger occasion, and fecking hell; course you would, but its man Utd vs Liverpool. it must kill Citeh fans. feck off.

Hmm one game I feel we should have taken a risk and played Fred instead of McTominay so as to put some pace in our midfield . I really hope Mc Tominay puts up a big performance . Our line up scares me tonight with Mata, Mc Tominay and Lukaku starting . With Mata starting Ander will have to help out more on the right side which will leave Mc Tominay more exposed . We need a huge performance from our team today .

Big loss today in matic, hes clearly injured as not on bench. Seen many slating him on here and now "we are fecked because hes not playing." Mctominay has to step up today..

As for the few throwing the towel in before kick off, shameful. Get behind them ffs. No time for the defeatist attitudes. If we get beat fair enough but lets have a good go - i remember the same whining minority when we drew Arsenal and then chelsea away in the FA CUP.

So who sits on Pogba? I think Mata is there to hurt the PSG tactic of neutralising Pogba and killing our creativity.
You can't sit on two midfielders unless you want to become completely passive yourselves.

Henderson will be on Pogba, they will be looking to hit it quick to their fast front 3 on the break and expecting us to try and take the game on as we are the home team, so yeah, they'll be setting up defensive anyway.

Big day for McTominay, Mata, Lukaku and Solskjaer.

If it isnt a close match this could have a big impact on his future

This game should have very little bearing on his future. If we lose it's on the glazers/ Woodward for not reinforcing the obvious gaps in January.

Diamond with Mata at the tip would be my preferred formation. Switch him with Jesse if things don't work out in the first half.

Matic out, we paid £50 million for Fred and he’s sat on the bench!

He’s on the bench. So he’s not out.

He's not fit enough to start so it's fair to assume his impact from the bench will be limited at best.

The amount of good fortune Liverpool has had this season goes far beyond the norm. They are pretty much at full strength this afternoon whilst we are short three of our most influential players, for example.

Travelled where? The match is in Manchester and he was not at the team hotel last night. He must have picked up an injury on Friday or Saturday. So it was clear from last night that he wasn't gonna play today.
I must have overlooked his absence. My bad, I thought he was on the hotel list last night.

Mate played in the entire second half against PSG and did nothing of what you're saying.
Can see Klopp sitting back even more now. Then what? People citing Chelsea as reasons for optimism are wrong I feel.

This is going to be one slog :(

I wasnt talking about losing. I said if its not close.

We need to be competing in games like this if Solskjaer is going to be the manager. We dont even have to get any points, 2-1 when we had a good spell and looked like we might get a point is being competitive.

If we lose 2-0 or let in a bunch and we never looked like even a point was up for grabs, thats a problem. We dont need that kind of performance after PSG.

I'd like to think Ole has worked on it since then. You think Sarri didn't try it last week?
Mata has now started two games in a row since then. Two of our toughest games as well and he's keeping Lingard out of todays game.
    Coincidence?

McTominay played ok against them last year. He broke the play up well and was tidy enough in possession. The only black mark against him was that he played the ball backwards almost every time he got it, that could work to starve the likes of Pogba of possession which as we saw against PSG could completely feck us against good teams.

Here's a video from last time:

Matic will be a big miss. I wouldn't have said that 3 months ago but he has been massive for us under Ole.

Smalling playing today is a nightmare. With all his grabbing there is a MASSIVE risk of a pen or red card.

Michael Oliver loves to make a game about him. He has probably got a metallic polished red card made just for this game. Maybe even a Lingard dance move to announce a penalty.

Smalling playing could be a bigger issue than McTomiwank or Grandad Mata or No touch Lukaku. Damn that is a lot of problems today!

You can't criticise Liverpool today without Souness jumping in.
They don't have a weakness ffs

Mata has now started two games in a row since then. Two of our toughest games as well and he's keeping Lingard out of todays game.
    Coincidence?

Lingard is kept out because he's not 100% ready. Mata is starting because there's no else. He doesn't consider Sanchez as right winger and Lingard isn't fully ready.

A draw would be a good result for us considering the injuries. 2 of our front 3 out and McTominay starting :(

I'd take Young before Trippier tbh, and focus on acquiring a top class RW/CM backup while we've got Young, then when Young loses his legs like Zabaleta we can replace him
He's ancient. He's already losing his legs. Do you not see him targeted every week by the opposition? We need to buy a replacement or give Dalot a chance. No excuses.

Missing Matic and Martial is a shame but McTominay and Mata have shown well against Liverpool in the past.

I'm very much looking forward to watching Rashford put Milner into a well deserved retirement this afternoon.
You left out a VERY important player in big games - Lingard

Not confident now. McTominay is utter tripe, he adds nothing to the starting 11. Matic will be missed. Mata usually plays well against this lot so hoping he can unlock their defence. I can see them man-marking Pogba to cut off the supply. Lukaku = playing with 10 men, 9 when we take Scott into account.

Changing my prediction to 1-2 Scum.

Sky Sports coverage is painful. Neville trying to make sensible points and Sourness and Carragher just being cnuts in their responses.
