Mctominay.....Jesus Christ we’re fecked. Let’s just hope for the best with a few drinks ofcourse

    Ole on Martial and Lingard

Interesting line up, maybe McTominay provides a bit more mobility than Matic and maybe that's why he's replacing Matic I guess.
Needs Lukaku and Mata to step up today, looks like the back five, even the FBs, will sit back and defend whereas the front five will attack with Herrera acting as a link.

McTominay may be unremarkable but he is consistent, he will break up play and lay it off to Pogba.

    He can do eeeet!

Mata chasing Robertson is a bit of a worry, but he will try his best. we don’t have anybody else to do that job realistically.
More like he will have to dive into the box when Lukaku will run to open the channel in his side. Mata can move in the middle, we will have to trust him.

Please, please, please Lukaku, just step up. You can go a long way to redeeming yourself with a good performance today. McTominay has to play as the DM as he offers nothing going forward.

If only we had a firing Sanchez. :( Liverpool must be buzzing after seeing that lineup.

Pool are so lucky. Now 3 of our best players out.

I don't think so. I can see a diamond with mata as 10 and lukaku and rashford wide up top.

Matic is our weak link in big games, Mctominay provides better mobility, he has done it before as well. Plenty of creativity in the team if Pogba is man marked or pressed.

Mata only worked in that role against Chelsea because Jorginho is so slow and immobile, Fabinho will be sat on him in this game and he's a complete other level. As for Lukaku, he's dogmeat for van Dijk, he has no atrributes that van Dijk can't cope with, with ease, at least if we'd played Sanchez he'd be a nuissance for van Dijk.

I don't anyone is. No point grinding out teeth over it though. Hopefully Tommy does a good enough job...
Matic is the only United player who has properly gone under the radar under OGS but I noticed he went back to his early 2014-2015 days. We will see what Tommy can do.

We'll struggle big time with our build-up play in this game. High pressing against the likes of Smalling, McTominay and Mata, with Lukaku as the outlet up front.

    I'll take a point here.

We'll win. They're usually hopeless at OT.

Why are people complaining about McTominay, he was our player of the year last season ffs
My point, if he plays 6, he may not have fantastic long passes but he can work hard, cut the ball and release it simply to the other 4 players in front of him. It’s not necessarily a big thing and you can do it if you’re focused. The kid is disciplined.

Leaving Robertson and Mane free to run at Young is terrifying though.
I know other fans like you will have a differing opinion bud, but I'm glad we've got Young he's a good player, and having him means we can target big players in other positions

If we sold him he'd walk into other EPL teams

Playing diamond would be suicide. When we played Chelsea that way we saw their wingers and sometimes even their fullbacks get so much space out wide. Young and Shaw better step up big time or we're in trouble.

Also, we desperately need another defensive midfielder because once Matic is out we have no options there.

Mata only worked in that role against Chelsea because Jorginho is so slow and immobile, Fabinho will be sat on him in this game and he's a complete other level. So who sits on Pogba? I think Mata is there to hurt the PSG tactic of neutralising Pogba and killing our creativity.
You can't sit on two midfielders unless you want to become completely passive yourselves.

While the big players at opposition clubs target him
If we sold or released Young, he'd walk into other EPL teams like Zabaleta did when City discarded him

He's a good player and we have other positions to focus on now like RW or maybe CM

Feeling cautiously optimistic about this one despite missing some key players. Which usually means we will end up losing.

    United - 2 Shelbyville - 0

Mate played in the entire second half against PSG and did nothing of what you're saying.

Big blow having Matic out. Disappointed to not see Lingard or Martial either. McTominay is far from ideal but I can at least see the logic in having him in for Matic. He's the closest we have to him. Fred may feel disappointed but this would be a nightmare game to put him in for. Red card written all over him.

Big day for young Scott, he'll have to do a lot of dirty work Matic normally does. Keep it simple, break up play and make sure of a pass, he'll be fine.

Missing Matic and Martial is a shame but McTominay and Mata have shown well against Liverpool in the past.

I'm very much looking forward to watching Rashford put Milner into a well deserved retirement this afternoon.
