Hopefully Martial is fit and we can play Martial,Pog,Shaw on the left.

Sanchez should be on the bench after the garbage he showed vs Palace.

No doubt he'll play the same team as against Palace though.

Sanchez dropped but Pogba to play? Think Pogba was as bad if not worse in last nights game. At least you will get effort from Sanchez when things aren't going right

Pogba was not ad bad as Sanchez. We dont have anyone to drop Pogba for anyway.

Pogba was shocking in my opinion. Drop them both. Imagine having the luxury of playing like that and know your playing next game in a big derby...

He kind of did made surprising team selection eg. drop Zlatan for the big Chelsea game for the pacy hungry Rashford ;) so considering Sanchez's form, it won't surprises me if Alexis benched. His run of form is still horrible.

I can see Jose go with 5 defenders this game. Liverpool's attacking department is so ridiculous, give credit where it's due. I can't trust Smalling and Lindelof CB partnership for this. Having the recently back-from-injury Bailly with them is more reassuring.

We were well into the season when he did that though, I'm not sure he'll drop Alexis this soon into his time here, he really should after the last couple of performances but I just don't see it.

Setting up to have a direct defender for each of their front 3 is something I can defintely see Jose doing, espeically since we don't have the enrgy in midfield to take the game away from them.

Hopefully Jose will have realised that Young is nowhere near good enough. If he plays Young after last night we can't complain if beaten.

I think a lot of it simply comes down to him not trusting Shaw and having doubts over his general basic fitness.

That could be an option, maybe Lingard in for Mata despite the Spaniard's game-changer yesterday and previous heroics versus Liverpool.

It's funny how Jose chooses to deal with McTominay now seems so key to how we'll set up in one of our biggest matches of the season. If Jose thinks he needs a break we could go with something like you've outlined above but if he trusts him to come through it we may persist with a three man midfield.

I could see Lingard being chosen as well simply because we are likely going to play on the counter and Mata lacks the legs for that, but we miss his simple craft and control in these games I feel.

I think we need Bailly's energy in this team and McTominay could get really overrun against this Liverpool side, he struggled against Palace last night and they don't have anywhere near the pace and movement Liverpool have.

At least Pogba played well-ish for about 20 minutes. He was less bad overall than Sanchez who may as well have been playing for Palace. I think half of his touches were him giving the ball away!

If we had a replacement for Pogba then fine but we don't. We have replacements for Sanchez and we look better without him tbh.

Got a good gut feeling about this game. I think it will be like the Chelsea game last season where a side shows up in form and everything comes together for us.

Interested to see the XI. I'd hope Shaw starts over Young and Bailly in defense. I think we'll go with a three in midfield and Sanchez will start (and score). Mata deserves to start.

    I'll go 3-1.

    Drop Pogba and play who?

Although he shouldnt, i think Mou will park the bus mainly in this game unless we go behind. Then he will be forced to make a game of it. Saying that I think its got a big chance to be 0-0 again. We will be the laughing stock if he does park the bus at home.

I understand the reasons for the early kickoff but the PL really should be having this as the marquee matchup on Saturday night. What's supposed to be the biggest game in the league always suffers from that scheduling, quality-wise, in my opinion.

Not a chance they'd put rival matches and derby games at the end of a Saturday when fans can drink all day. Recipe for disaster.

Just have to start earlier then. ;)

But yeah agree overall, hate early kick-offs. Atmosphere is always really poor.

I just hope it's not wave after wave of away side attacking (like the city game) with us booting the ball upfield and lukaku chasing the ball or hanging onto it eventually to lose out. Press them, hound them but don't sit back and make it tiring to watch.
When you think were supposed to be the biggest club in England its a disgrace the way we play football. No cohesion, no fluidity, no style and no tactics so to speak. Hundreds of millions of pounds spent and we are still way off playing how we should be playing for a big club.

I remember the Anfield game was on a Monday night last season. Stupid time.

    I've gone with:
    DDG
    Bailly Smalling Lindelof
    Valencia Matic Pogba Shaw
    Lingard
    Lukaku Martial

It's difficult to drop Sanchez but he isn't in good form plus we have a big squad. It's important to utilize it. He's still a big threat coming off the bench and our subs this season have made great impacts off the bench so he can be a real weapon in the last 20/25 minutes when Liverpool defenders start to tire. Liverpool don't have any options from the bench but we still have Mata, Rashford and Sanchez to change things up. We have Sevilla midweek too so a bit of rotation isn't going to be the end of the world.
Gone with 3 at the back to help our build up from the back and the extra man should mean Pogba doesn't have to drop too deep to collect the ball. We played the same team vs Arsenal but with Rojo and Young in there instead of Bailly and Shaw. Don't forget we looked very dangerous throughout the game and when we pressed Arsenal high with Lingard especially they couldn't cope and we scored 2 in 10 minutes. I'd go with the same tactic here as well.

Shaw has to be trusted to deal with Salah with Martial tracking back to help. Those two have enough pace I feel defensively and offensively to deal with it. Young will get torn apart IMO. He simply must not play.

It's a bit concerning we're so far into the season and there are still question marks over our best team. It literally changes from game to game and Jose's tactics of adapting our style depending on the opponent doesn't help at all. We should have a settled team and already know what we're going to do. On the other hand we can use our bigger squad depth and add a bit of unpredictability which makes it difficult for teams to know what we're going to do. That can be used to our advantage.

I feel quite confident for some reason. Going with 3-1 to us.

Oh agreed - whenever I've attended an earlier game, if we've wanted to drink we'll find our ways. But i guess it stops the masses from turning up drunk, makes it a better experience for everyone.

Don't want to imagine Salah against Lindelof and Smalling. Get Bailly in for one of them please.
You mean you want Bailly to play leftback or leftcenterback, where he never played?

Let’s see if we’ve learned anything over the last 6-8wks

For me, Sanchez has to play central and just in behind Lukaku.

Pogba can’t play in a two in a game like this, so McTominay and Matic have to make it a three.

That leaves us with one from Lingard, Rashford, Mata and Martial (if fit). Personally, and I can’t believe I am saying this - I would start Mata, also in a central position slightly off Lukaku.

This would mean we are very narrow. So Shaw has to play LB to give us natural width and I would actually go with Young at RB to give us similar on the right. Valencia doesn’t get forward quickly enough and is to hesitant in the final third.

This wouldn’t be my team every week, but it would be my team on Saturday!

Should be a good game although I have a feeling we'll lose. Hope we twat them but although our comebacks have been exhilarating, we haven't looked convincing and Pool are flying. Thankfully these last two wins should help us secure top 4 even if we lose this one. If we start slow again their press will destroy us. Can see Salah absolutely tormenting Young.

I'll go United 1 (Martial) - 2 Pool (Salah, Firmino)

    Hope it's 5-0 us though

Would be surprised to see Jose trusting either Martial or especially Shaw to play Salah's wing. Always hate seeing our starting 11 in these games get dictated by our opponents but that's the current situation. As long as it pays off we'll be content.

Half expect to see hoofball all game. Seems we've been trying to recreate the Tottenham goal with Lukaku flicking it on for someone to run behind but it's such a low percentage play I wish we'd stop trying

We really need Herrera fit for this

I actually think we will be ok. Liverpool play an open game, which will suit our attacking players. I don't rate their defensive unit. Maybe a 2-2 or something.

Hope Rashford starts. And McTominay who should enjoy this game as a young United player.

Time for Mourinho to grow a pair and drop Pogba and Alexis for the good of the team.

    De Gea
    Bailly Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Carrick Matic
    Lingard Mata Rashford
    Lukaku

Pereira Valencia Lindelof Young McTominay Pogba Alexis

Pogba does not deserve to be dropped. Sanchez maybe, though he did much better as a no.10 after the switch so maybe he can play there? Can't see McTominay making the starting line up again and not sure Carrick is ready. Are Herrera and Fellaini definitely out? Shame Blind has no match fitness as otherwise I think he could do a good job alongside Matic with Pogba or Sanchez further forward. I would not start Rashford. Is Martial available?

Still our best outfield players, Carrick and Matic against that press! That backline isn't happening.

Are you for real? That's a shocking team. Thank god you're not the manager.

Rashford must play. It’s been very clear this season that we’re a better team with him playing.

If this was at Juanfield I'd be extremely pessimistic going into this match, but I'm really interested in seeing how we'll setup at Old Trafford for this one.

Bailly after so long out, in a position he's barely, if at all played for us. Carrick who has played about 2 games all season.
    Rojo in from the cold.
Shaw who has barely had a sniff for a month

Do you want to see a Moyes result against them or something!

If we can survive the first 20 minutes, we'll win.

People might not remember but Klopp was pretty conservative in this fixture at Old Trafford last year.

we weren't great but we still dominated the play

reckon this will be a similar game and the first goal will be all important - overall I'd be surprised if Liverpool were very attacking and I'd be amazed if we were

Pragmatically, we don't need to win, we just need to not lose. JoMo will have his focus on Sevilla I think so I'm not expecting a tactical masterclass or anything. Play the 3 man midfield, maybe sit back a little deeper when defending. I'd play Rashford to get his speed in use for when we launch balls into channels.

You’re clearly wishing Mou to get fired.
