Need to be up for this from the first minute. But we're at home, we need to win. Should be on a high after beating Chelsea and now coming back from 2-0 down. Would've loved Herrera to be back, but unlikely. Also in 2 minds about whether we should go 3-5-2 or not. On one hand, McTominay really shouldn't play this game, Carrick is too old so we don't have enough mids. On the other... we collapse without a midfield 3 in big games. But 3-5-2 could possibly make it work. Also we need Bailly and Shaw in from the start. Whether that's in a 3 for Bailly to play with Smalling and lindelof, but young shouldn't play IMO. Would probably go for this though:

    De Gea
    Bailly Smalling Lindelof
    Valencia Matic Pogba Shaw
    Sanchez
    Lukaku Martial

Rashford, lingard and young/mectominay probably as subs to change things when needed.
    Hoping for this.

Five days of media love for Liverpool and making them favourites. Great if we can beat them.

I trust Mourinho for this. At home, we're significantly better. We'll play to stop them and hit them on the counter.

I'd leave McTominay on the bench and use the extra CB to match up with their front 3. I also think Mata should play but Mourinho may prefer Lingard's pace on the break, in truth I'd play Lingard or Rashford over Sanchez right now, but Jose wont.

Most confident I've been about this fixture in a while, as long as Mourinho doesn't park the bus (which he shouldn't at home).

You have been in good form recently and we have been grinding out results with poor performances with occasional setbacks, so on face of it seems you have a good chance to get a positive result but I am not sure that Klopp would be too gung ho away from home at Old Trafford similarly I can't fully discount Mourinho parking the bus at home either so it could very well turn out be a cagey affair with both managers happy with point rather than going all out for win.

There is a proven way to beat them and I hope Mourinho follows along those lines: They will start with a lot of energy, we must not concede and stay organized. after 20-30 minutes when their energy levels inevitably drop, we should do our thing.

Agreed but relying on two dimwits in Smalling and lindelof is the problem

Smalling had no problems keeping Salah silent at Anfield earlier this season in the 0-0 draw. He was excellent against Chelsea and against Palace. Have faith.

Mourinho's plan will be simple, dont concede in first 60 mins, soak their energy look for the counter. If behined after 60 mins attack, if not keep the plan going for 90 mins and wait for an inevitable mistake from them.

Its simple they will come here to win and we will play not to lose. We Draw and we will be in the same position as before the game with 2 points ahead, if we win with a counter attack great. Mourinho will want to minimise risk of defeat and let chelsea/tottenham back into us.
I would love to beat them etc, but i think the situation (sevillia game too) will demand a cautious approach.

This is almost a defeatist attitude to take going into a big home game but it reeks of the pragmatism that Mourinho employs on such occasions.

I think so too. Both us and Liverpool are coming from a strong position to the game, their attacking fluidity has been very good lately and we are coming after two games when we showed a lot of character to win from behind.

One thing that is certain is that Mourinho will want to be in control of the game, that's why his main concern would be preventing them from scoring first. We need to keep it tight at back and let them do their running around. We have enough quality on top to finish them off. We must keep the momentum going for the crucial CL and FA games that are coming after Liverpool.

We are going to have to soak pressure either way because we still need energy for the Sevilla game where we will probably press harder.

They are in good form & their shaky defense has also improved.

Meanwhile, our mean defense has started to look shaky. And we still look like individuals in attack. Think we are better than them in midfield though.

It’s true that form generally goes out the window for this one.

Jose will definitely play it tight as possible I think & look to counter especially when they run out of energy after swarming around us for 60 minutes like angry bees.

It might not be what we want to see, as we want to see a hung-ho approach & thrash the cnuts of course but as we know, he’s a very pragmatic manager and a point each keeps us looking good for a top 4 finish.

Personally, I'd drop Young and Sanchez - bring in Martial/Rashford and maybe Mata. Maybe a bit defensive minded, but we need a certain gameplan if we're to beat Liverpool with how they're playing right now. I'd be looking at something more like this if the aim was to contain them and try to translate quickly into counter attacks:

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    McTominay Matic Pogba
    Mata Lukaku Rashford

Rashford is the only player who would help out anywhere near enough defensively on that side against Salah & Alexander-Arnold. Mata seems necessary on the right, but I'd also want to find a place for Lingard... It's a difficult one though, as starting the game like this is probably too cautious, even if a draw for both sides is a decent result given Chelsea's defeat at City. Liverpool being 8 points ahead of 5th and not losing at Old Trafford is something I'm sure they'd be fine with.

I think Jose will want to find room in the team for McTominay, Sanchez, and one of Martial/Lingard/Rashford and stick with the 433. The same team that started against Palace is entirely possible despite the shocker of a first half.

Worried about their high pressure. If we find a way to deal with that, I think we can have a good game.

I hope the Mourinho haters are prepared to watch us play defensive football and proceed to beat the scousers.

They won’t know whether to celebrate or criticise.

    1-0

I haven't watched United in a few weeks but I'd happily take a draw at this point. I want to wrap up top 4 as quickly as possible, maybe even before or around the CL quarter finals if possible.

We've been playing very good lately but I never look forward to a trip to Old Trafford.

United need a win here, Liverpool's front three pressing Smalling and Lindelof when they are in possession fills me with dread. Mourinho will need to come up with a plan here, hopefully he will. At least the team showed some cojones to come back from two down last night at Palace, something sadly lacking in recent times.

Home game. At least this one will felt more comfortable pre-game considering our good home form.

    Come on United.

Given that Liverpool are notoriously fast starters and we amble out of the blocks but finish strong, the signs aren't good but should be a cracking game.

Klopp has been almost as conservative as Jose whenever they have played us. It seems as though even he realizes the magnitude of the fixture and his priority is always must-not-lose. I expect a cagey game from both managers.

Big, big game for both teams. I'm usually always very optimistic, but for this game I'd settle for a draw, if offered. That's what I think will happen too, as Mourinho is a master at these kind of games and I suspect Klopp won't go out guns blazing.

Hopefully you have a tough match on Wednesday, so your players are still tired Saturday.

There are several posters that have been criticizing Mourinho because They feel like the team is playing shite and performing below what it's capable of and it's Mourinho's fault. They can be very critical but They will probably be quite happy as long as We win against Liverpool.

Mourinho haters however, would hate for us to win before the ball is even kicked and if We won by playing defensive, They surely will criticise him.

He kind of did made surprising team selection eg. drop Zlatan for the big Chelsea game for the pacy hungry Rashford ;) so considering Sanchez's form, it won't surprises me if Alexis benched. His run of form is still horrible.

I can see Jose go with 5 defenders this game. Liverpool's attacking department is so ridiculous, give credit where it's due. I can't trust Smalling and Lindelof CB partnership for this. Having the recently back-from-injury Bailly with them is more reassuring.

This is where Jose earns his money

    Bailly or Lindelof
    Shaw or Young
    McTominay or Mata
    Lingard or Martial
    4-2-31 or 4-3-3

    I haven't got a fecking clue

There is no way Mourinho is going to be that attacking!

Cannot wait for this. So up for it after last night.

Would love to see Jose get one over Klopp. Neutrals/Liverpool fans/media would hate it. They've both pretty much cancelled each other out so far in the EPL, time to set that one right. Shame it's an early kick-off, crowd need to be up for this one.

    Very worried.
This is the worst club to face considering our lethargic start to games.
I am desperate for us to beat them.
Can't be having these cnuts fancying their chances against us.
I have a Liverpool supporting mate who's usually quite negative.
He feels confident going into this.
Desperate for us to ruin his weekend.
