The only thing I'm worried about is the post. if it stops denying us goals we will be too much for them. we will be fired up and come out the blocks at 100 mph.

How many times have we hit the post this season? It seems like every game.

It's important to remember that when it comes to Liverpool, everything goes out of the window. Form, temperament, ability, everything.

Like every game against them it'll be an awfully tense match. They aren't half bad and can certainly beat us and we've been on a great run recently too so we can beat them. You just never, ever know how it's gonna be.

I'd like to think we'll carry on the way we're going but I'm mindful that Klopp has a great record against Mourinho and they always kick it up a notch against us.

It's in the scousers' interest to make us think the game will be easy for us.

I fell asleep before the game last night. Did Liverpool have a strong side out?

I fell asleep before the game last night. Did Liverpool have a strong side out?
No Matip, Henderson, Coutinho or Mane.

They were replaced by Klavan, Lucas, Wijnaldum and Origi.

Coutinho did come back from injury in the 60th minute I think.

We couldn't have chosen a better moment to play against them. They are three games without a win and don't have Mane as well. We are on a 9-game winning streak. Coutinho coming back from injury is the only thing going for them. But we can't be complacent since these guys raise their game against us irrespective of form. I'm sure Jose will make sure we are up for it from the go.

No Matip, No Mane and I heard no Henderson. Playing at Old Trafford. We can't ask for more for handicap for 3 points.

I will play the strongest XI. Smalling in if Rojo is unfit. Blind as a left back instead of Darmian. Mkhytaryan will be on the wing. And for the other winger it's either Mata or Martial. If Mata is fit I'll play him and who knows he might score that wonder goal again but I have a feeling Martial will play.

Worrying. Liverpool were entirely gash last night. They will roar back this Sunday. Put simply, it's unfair. We must win the battle on social media in the next 48 hours.

Henderson and Matip return to full training today.

What's the fecking difference between holding back and caution?
I expect Klopp and Liverpool to attack us at OT after the nonsense that was said after the Anfield game.
Sensitive much? I was just pointing out how I think the game might pan out. Klopp could set up similar to City at home with a deep defensive block and Jose is not unaccustomed to a defensive approach. It wasn't a dig whatsoever.

Thanks. Fingers crossed they're still out, and even if they're not there's no way they'll be 100%. We've got every chance of getting the win.

I expect Henderson, Matip and Coutinho all to start on Sunday.

Klopp also has a very good record vs Mourinho. Just hope we start bright early on and don't take our time settling in. The crowd will do their bit.

COLUMN: RIO'S ANALYSIS OF UNITED V LIVERPOOL

Rio Ferdinand has provided an exclusive column for ManUtd.com ahead of Manchester United’s highly-anticipated Premier League match against historic rivals Liverpool on Sunday, providing his expert analysis of both clubs, their tactical approaches and hopes this season…

“When you consider what Manchester United and Liverpool bring together in terms of history, memories and winning the Premier League and the old Football League, there can’t be any other kind of game that matches it. The fixture creates so much hype and this weekend is no exception.

"I think we’ve got the best managers in the world here in the Premier League. Other than maybe Carlo Ancelotti, Diego Simeone and Zinedine Zidane, I think we’ve got the best, the most entertaining and the biggest personalities all here. Jose Mourinho is, of course, one of them and so is Jurgen Klopp, who I have to say has been a breath of fresh air since coming to England. The way he sets his teams up, from Dortmund to this Liverpool team, is exciting. They’re great to watch. They play with verve; they have a direct, aggressive, quick, attacking mentality and attack in numbers. No matter which club you support, Liverpool under Klopp are a very good team to watch and that makes them dangerous. They’re going to win games 3-2 or 4-3 and while I think, defensively, they have an Achilles heel, if they’re going to outscore teams then they’re going to be a big threat.

"With the team that Klopp is building, the expectations are rising around Liverpool. Expectations are nothing new for Jose Mourinho or United. I think Jose has had one of the hardest jobs out of the top teams in terms of personnel, changing the mentality at the football club, going against the philosophy that had been drilled in over the last couple of years, reshuffling things, and it was a huge job for him. It still is.

"What he needed to do was find a formation and find the personnel to fit it. He’s come across it, and the real crux of that was within the football club when he got there, and that’s Michael Carrick. I said it under Louis van Gaal and David Moyes: Michael is so crucial to the football team. It’s obvious how good he is on the ball, but I think more important is how he is defensively. The roving eye just looking for an entertaining football match probably won’t see it, but in terms of defensive positions and shielding the back four, he’s one of the best I’ve played with. I think he’s the best around at the moment.

"When there’s a turnover and Michael receives the ball, he doesn’t play it sideways if he doesn’t have to; he’d rather play a ball through the lines and into the attacking third. Our most dangerous players are our attacking players and they need the ball quick and early. Over the last few years, we were playing so slowly that other teams were able to get back into their two blocks of four and wait for us to break them down. That becomes difficult, no matter who you are, whereas when Carrick plays, he gets the ball, plays it through the lines and then our attacking players are facing the opposition’s back four, which gives us more opportunities to get shots off or create chances, and goals are scored this way. He’s a vital component to the way that works, and also to Mourinho’s tactics. There aren’t many players in the world who can carry that out, but Michael is one.

"Another key to United’s improvement has been the form and the star quality of the summer signings. Pogba, Mkhitaryan and Ibrahimovic are world-class superstars. We’re now back into signing world-class players. With Mourinho, I just think it’s a case of how long it’s going to take him to get things how he wants them. I think, looking at the run we’re on now, finishing in the top four is definitely something we can look at. Anything beyond that would be great but I’m not looking any further than getting back into the Champions League, consolidating and moving on from there.

"With that in mind, this weekend’s game just grows and grows in importance. It was huge anyway because it always is but, when you consider the stakes for both teams, the talent on the pitch and the quality of the two managers, it’s a game which is just absolutely huge."

Well said Rio. Very insightful point about Carrick.

What's Henderson's injury status ? Has he trained or played lately ?

Sorry didn't have the answer yesterday but today tweets say Hendo and Matip start full training with Hendo starting on Sunday. Which kind of implies Matip won't be? :(

Mourinho will be meticulous for this. Much more confident going into the big games with him at the helm.

Be inclined to play Rooney at some point. He'll be highly motivated to break the record against this lot. Could be a masterstroke taking him off early v Hull.

FIVE TALKING POINTS: UNITED V LIVERPOOL

Manchester United host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday in what is undeniably a colossal fixture for both clubs, with the Premier League table at its tightest and most compelling all season. Here are five talking points to discuss ahead of the 16:00 GMT kick-off…

    1: BIGGEST GAME THIS SEASON
United versus Liverpool is a rivalry that requires no hype; yet the significance of this 50th Premier League meeting has been amplified by United’s inspiring form in recent weeks. The Reds are enjoying a nine-match winning run and, crucially, six of those were in Premier League games to close the gap on the five teams above. Another victory over much-praised Liverpool, currently only five points ahead in second place, would send a stirring message that Jose Mourinho’s men are title contenders this season. Expect blood-stirring, vein-pumping passion at the Theatre of Dreams, both on and off the pitch, this weekend.

2: CAN THE VICTOR WIN THE TITLE?
That is the question many fans will ask. United are clearly in top form and carrying momentum at an influential time of year. Yes, leaders Chelsea are flying high, but everybody is well-versed in the Premier League’s unpredictability and anything can happen with 18 matches still to be played. Liverpool, meanwhile, have been much-fancied all season due to their lightning-fast start, yet the Merseysiders have wobbled in recent weeks with a shock loss at Bournemouth, an away draw at Sunderland, an FA Cup stalemate at home to Plymouth Argyle and Wednesday's EFL Cup semi-final first leg defeat at Southampton. The result at Old Trafford - positive, negative or in between - will have a big impact on both clubs.

3: ROONEY COULD BREAK GOALS RECORD
Imagine this scene: Wayne Rooney becomes United’s all-time leading goalscorer by scoring a winner against Liverpool at Old Trafford. That’s what many fans have hoped for since the captain drew level with Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing tally of 249 with his opener against Reading last weekend. It’s the stuff of dreams, particularly when you consider the striker’s boyhood allegiance to Everton.

    4: SELECTION DILEMMAS
Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed the EFL Cup semi-final first leg win over Hull City on Tuesday due to illess, although Mourinho is confident the Swede will return. The boss could be without two centre-backs, though, with Eric Bailly away on international duty with Ivory Coast and Marcos Rojo nursing a muscle injury sustained in last weekend’s FA Cup win over the Royals. It remains to be seen whether the latter is fit. Jurgen Klopp has a problem of his own, too, because star forward Sadio Mane is also away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal. The German manager is boosted by the return of Philippe Coutinho, however, after the diminutive playmaker featured in the midweek EFL Cup loss against Southampton.

    5: A CHANGE IN APPROACH
Liverpool and United played out a tactically-intriguing 0-0 draw in October, when Mourinho was pleased by the way his team “controlled” Anfield and “influenced the atmosphere in the stadium”. But that was then and this is now. Times have changed and the Reds are almost a different team, with the players more accustomed to the manager’s methods and demands. It’s fair to assume we will witness a different approach this time around, focused on our own strengths and abilities, rather than silencing a hostile environment. This is Old Trafford. This is Manchester. This is United. The stage is set for a classic.

    Jose? :D

Jokes aside though we really should push for the win from the start against, as you rightfully pointed out, what will be a weakened Liverpool side.

No. Carrick has to play. Without him the team is nowhere near the same level. It's very rare Carrick lack of pace affects him, he reads the game so well he is never caught out plus he isn't as slow as portrayed.
No he isn't. sometimes he runs past a faster player and late in the games. I have seen that. I want both Mata and Carrick in but Herrera and Pogba are great partners. I guess Jose faces much bigger problems than these :P

It will be a close game. 1-1 is my guess as it sounds like Liverpool will be at full strength bar Mane.

Mane is a big miss for them though I think - they have not looked quite so pacey or threatening without him. I would definitely play Martial as I think he could have Clyne.

    ------------------------DDG--------------------------------
    Valencia-----Jones-------Rojo/Smalling--Darmian/Blind
    ---------Herrera-----Carrick-----Pogba------------------
    Mkhitaryan------------Ibra--------------------Martial

Mata unfortunate to miss out but I think we need that solidity in midfield and pace to support Ibra for this one.

Caught Liverpool's game vs Southampton, and they should/could have lost that 3 to 4 nil easy.
For me, anything other than a win would be disappointing. 3-0 is what I hope for. Enough messing about.

Of course it won't happen but wouldnt it be sweet if we battered them 5, 6:0.

A red card in the first minute for them and 4-0 at half time, including 3 of them being offside. Followed by two second half goals from Evra, who we bring in quickly from Juventus.

    Bliss.

And Rojo escaping a red after not one but 2 awful 2 footed tackles. :D
