Equal game so far. One daft penalty they scored but we've had the better chances otherwise.

Rojo, Darmian, Martial, Valencia and Miki all playing well down our flanks. Mourinho needs to calm Pogba down at half time and Herrera needs to keep his pressing up.
Herrera is great at pressing, but he is doing it against a team who the majority are doing it. A thankless task. He needs help.

missing good chances, making individual mistakes, looking a bit sloppy/nervous

opposition set up to spoil, smash & grab, get men behind the ball

it does look very much how it does when you're losing these kind of games, :(

I feel like I was too optimistic about this one, atm

That's one of the worst penalties we've ever conceded in terms of pure daftness.

Needless and poor back back from Martial, Jones dithers on the ball and loses it, Pogba loses his man and fecking punches the ball clear.

Really was a clown show that. And against these feckers of all teams.

Mkhi should probably try and stay wider. Get him more in the game and that is where the space is. Would also help if we could finish chances. Even though we've been poor we still should have at least one goal.

Darmian should be sold asap pointless player, don't understand Jose's insistance on playing him he's garbage

Just a nothing player really. Plays it safe. Doesnt contribute anything to our attack.

Its like he is scared out there and just hoping not to make an error. Where the fook is Luke Shaw?

Nobody is playing well. Maybe someone put a curse on the team. I expect Rushford is to Martial. Martial has done nothing against a rookie. Very disappointed with Martial.

Even with some key players not really performing (Pogba has been shit and Ibrahimovich has been quite invisible, although in his defence he hasn't got much service I guess) we're the better team. If we keep creating chances like this we will get a goal.

The goal though, what a clusterfeck. Aside from Jones and Pogba's feck ups, I don't think it should've been a corner at all. I haven't watched a proper replay, but it looked like the ball comes off a Liverpool player and Rojo only plays it out for a corner because another Liverpool player, who was in an offside position, would've picked up in ball in a completely free position otherwise.

And that handball by Pogba was never intentional. He had no idea where he was, he completely lost his head during that half. Just like he has during the World Cup with France and at times with Juve. He needs carrick or ibra to put an arm round him and tell him to calm down.

I blame Pogba for that horrible miss more than the penalty. He was going for the ball with his head. He did not deliberately handle it. The ref should only give penalties for deliberate handball.

But if that was Zlatan instead of Pogba with that chance in minute 19, it is a goal and 1-0 UTD.

Big worry for me going into the second half isn't us scoring, as I think we should be able to do that. It's stopping Liverpool from getting another on the break. They have the players perfectly suited to playing on the fast break.

Not a good half, particularly poor by Pogba, but come on, some of the hyperbole I'm reading on here is ridiculous.

Told you not to get too cocky. Carrick, Pogba and herrera having a shit game.

Terrible performance from us, there isn't one midfielder in a red shirt playing as they should be. It's typical United again though make a couple of half chances that come to nothing, play Mkhy in who cocks it up and gift a stupid goal.
Herrera and Mkhy off for Mata and maybe Rashford I'd go for.

Herrera and Carrick are plying well

Pretty awful since a couple of chances early on. Pogba has been poor in possession and (though I take the point that it happens more than pundits point out) clueless at set pieces, culminating in a terrible concession of a penalty.

We're getting pressed to death. The back four look shellshocked and we are struggling to get the ball higher up the pitch. Looking at it positively I think Tony V has been good going forward and there are signs that Martial could have some joy against their young fullback, plus we've forced a couple of good saves from Mignolet while playing badly.

Let's have some heads banged together now and get the damage repaired quickly.

    United need Jose
Mourinho won’t want to bend to Liverpool’s system but he needs to find a way of dealing with their diamond midfield. Carrick can’t get on the ball meaning he can’t give it to the attacking players.

One option is to drop Herrera deeper but he’s been United’s best player. Mourinho has been able to influence games from the touchline recently but this is a bigger test.

United getting back into this starts with him.

We've not been as good as recent games, but it's far from terrible. Liverpool haven't really done much. We've had 3 very good chances. Liverpool didn't look like scoring before the penalty and haven't really since. We've looked more likely overall.

Should've started Mata, doesn't seem likely that he'll be brought on though as I didn't see him warming up at half time. Pogba needs to get a grip.

To be honest mate i couldn't tell if you were talking about our defense or Liverpool's, they have not exactly been solid either.

I agree. We need our midfield to get some control of the game back and form the basis of our attacks

Too many individual mistakes. Still we can get back in this game, the chances will come, we just have to take them.

Nobody is playing well. Maybe someone put a curse on the team. I expect Rushford is to Martial. Martial has done nothing against a rookie. Very disappointed with Martial.

Started pretty well then faded like the rest of the team. Darmian offering zero help too.

Liverpool are playing well, pressing us relentlessly all over the pitch. Their work rate is phenomenal, they have 3 or 4 players around the ball within seconds. They haven't had many clear chances but we look very nervy at the back under such pressure and any mistake is likely to cost us another goal.

That being said, if we can pass it quickly and incisively we can expose their back four and get in behind them very easily, as we've shown on two or three occasions. With better finishing we'd have got at least one goal in that half. So we're still very much in this. Get a goal and build up a head of steam with the crowd behind us and we can still win this.

Everything to play for but man am I bricking it :nervous:

Stay wide and exploit their FB's. Mkhitaryan needs to pin Milner back wide, why does he keep coming centrally? That right side needs to do much better with Valencia and Mkhitaryan which will help make space in central areas.

Pogba always does this against the top sides as he doesn't get time on the ball like he does against the weaker sides. Under pressure Pogba is really an awful midfielder.

He's putting the pressure on himself by taking loads of touches. If he went for the give and go more he'd find more space. It's like he feels the need to beat someone every time he touches the ball. Why not just pass through the lines?

I blame Pogba for that horrible miss more than the penalty. He was going for the ball with his head. He did not deliberately handle it. The ref should only give penalties for deliberate handball.

But if that was Zlatan instead of Pogba with that chance in minute 19, it is a goal and 1-0 UTD.

Rubbish, if a shot is heading into the goal on the goal line and accidently strikes a hand you would call no penalty? The ref got it exactly right and the law is exactly right.

Mou needs to get Pogba settled. Keep at it and try to get Zlatan more involved.
