Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • Hojlund just looks miles off what we need from our main striker. Hopefully just second season struggles, he's young. He's got the ingredients to be a useful player, but its a tough job watching him at the moment.
First thing a struggling striker needs to do is get involved in the game, try to have ball more if runs are not working out. I am surprised he is not trying to have ball more. I remember Ruud instructed him the same.

Shame to see Dalot's form just fall off a cliff this season after being one of our few consistently decent players for most of last year.

He must be thinking “compact midfield, no hole in the middle of the pitch, Casemiro sitting in like a proper midfielder = better football… What is this?”

No doubt some remaining acolyte will put out a "disgrace how hard they are trying for Ruud compared to ETH" when it was never about application and always about putting the players into a position to succeed.

Rashford has lost something and it’s not the “spark in his eyes/fire in his belly” garble people always throw about.

There’s something physically diminished about him now. Hes lost the ability to create separation. Even against the most mid fullbacks.

The ball goes to him and I no longer expect anything. No sensible manager would build around this version of Rashford. Shame cos I have a soft spot for him.

Ugarte gets better with every game. Who knew players take time to settle in. Need to start temporarily banning posters who talk absolute nonsense about our new signings.
a lot of people here have no idea about football and how important forexample defensive players can be in b2b mould. We had Fred and Herrera being key players doing dirty job for us for years in underwhelming teams and we will have Ugarte.

He would never come to a team and start spreading hollywood balls conceding possession. With confidence he will be penetrative enough, like for the second goal. while defensively supersound winning the balls around the pitch starting attacks.

The question is where does Mainoo comes in. Casemiro's been good too bar some lazy lost ball in midfield. But only good problems. Hopefully Amorim adds another midfielder over the summer too, so we have enough competition for a top team.

Nothing spectacular but just a good, solid and in control performance from a bigger club playing at home against a smaller club.

It shouldn’t make me this happy but it feels like we’ve had 12 years without these types of performances.

Remember when we were being told there’s no one out there who could do better than ten Hag.

He doesn't have the technical ability to make it. Bang average I am afraid. Maybe Amorim can teach him to time his runs.

Very pleased with that half. This is the first gane that has really exposed what a horrific job ETH had done with our midfield. Still concerned with Hojlund but if Bruno can continue providing goals under Amorim, the damage might be somewhat mitigated until we bring in a new striker. Great performance by Mazraoui, beautiful ball for 2nd. Amad looking good again. Ugarte and Casemiro joint motm for me. Hoping to see more of the same 2nd half.

Disagree with the first point. There were plenty of games under Ten Hag that exposed just how crap a midfield setup he was going with. We didn't need a good performance after his dismissal to see that.

Good job Leicester are terrible, been a bit of a bad game all round from both teams for the most part and we are 2-0 up, happy days.

Isn't it incredible though, that for years the fans have been saying we need midfielders with bite to win the ball back to allow the forwards to do their thing and ETH completely ignored it.

Ruud sticks 2 midfielders with bite next to each other and feck-a-duck! Look what happens....we score goals!

    #shockhorror
Not even necessarily bite, we just needed midfielders to play within 30ft of each other. Dont know whether he was too stubborn or clueless at setting out his team but glad ETH is gone

Give Casemiro a right partner and this is as solid it can get. Brilliant job there by both of them.

He's scared. When he receives the ball anywhere near the middle, even if there's no one around him, he doesn't turn and run at the defence, he first touch passes it back to our defenders

xg only 0.75 in that half.

Amad just lost his composure there. Happy with that half though , still room for improvement but better.

Ugarte looks like he is settling in now, he is like a magnet to the ball.
I have seen more seasoned strikers fluffing their finish including Haaland and Mbappe, he had no right to make that run in between the players so easily. Kinda expected maybe to loose a bit of composure dribbling past three players in top speed.

Michael Owen wasn't impressed in the stuido. I bet someone wouldnt be impressed with his playmaking and dribbling either. Not every player can do everything perfectly every time. Improtant thing is to get those chances and finish it off the next, which I would hope he would. At least you can expect that from a player who only scored a couple of goals in the previous game.

Does anyone else still get warm chills when they see the United badge?
Had it since I was a kid, reminds me of Christmas.
    Maybe it's just me.

    He's being Antonified.

think this will be sorted when Amorim introduces a wingback position. Dalot's very average going forward and switches of defensively way too often, basically, can't play that position. His only hope is to transform into RCB, which in fact he should.

Such a shame to see player underperforming after a really great season, where it looked he ironed out his mistakes and became one of the most depandable players. now back to calamity. Didn't help to switch wings to be fair to him.
Dalot as a RCB is even worse, the guy falls asleep so much when someone's behind him or he has to chase.

Pragmatic winning football. Picking players in form (Rashford aside) It doesn’t need to be rocket science
Pragmatic football might guarantee you top 6, and maybe top 4 with good enough players, but that's it. ETH might have been shit but I'm all for people trying things over people not.

Anyway, Ruud doing all anyone could expect of him so far! Good man!

Yeah it is really amazing how simply solving the very very obvious issues with ten Hag has improved things.

There's still a long way to go, and I think the real challenge will be to get confidence back in the attackers, but it's as much as we could have hoped for.
