I'd consider Lingard to be a pretty big miss tbh. It's hard to deny the kid has a knack for big goals and his movement is second to none. He's terrific played through the middle. Mata is great too, but I do feel like his severe lack of any semblance of pace does affect us at times.
Lingard is decent and I feel under the right system he could be a good player amongst other top players but he isn't productive enough and he doesn't take responsibility to be one of the main guys. Last season was just a purple patch.

    DDG
    Young Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera
    Fred Pogba
    Mata
    Lukaku Martial

    - I know Matic will start but he has been awful for months. All he does is take too many touches and pass sideways or backwards. We won't keep a clean sheet. We should pick the runners and players good on the ball that can break fast.

This is the line up (and system) I would choose as well, with only to changes: Bailly for Lindelof and Sanchez for Lukaku

Why does this feel like the kind of game that Jose would start Darmian?

I don't think he will, Jose rates (rightly) Darmian very low, so I don't think he will start him.

On the juve side, rumors here in Italy is that Allegri will start with a back 3 (Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini), Cancelo and Alex Sandro on the wings, Matuidi and Pjanic in midfield and Dybala and Ronaldo as strikers. Doubt between Cuardrado/Betancur and Bernardeschi for the last spot (it would be 352 in the first case, or 343/3412 with the second). Apparently Douglas Costa will be benched and ready to be used if needed in the second half (he is usually very effective when used in this was)

This game is so important for the team, Mourinho has got to get them playing like they were already down a goal. This repeated pattern of playing so defensively (poorly, I might add) before they go at teams is a real problem and I'm looking forward to seeing them hopefully change that in this game.

Feeling a lot more positive after the last few games, the team should be feeling confident.

I hope we start hard and fast and really get the crowd going. It won't be easy as Juve are a top team, but if we hit top gear we can blow them away.

I actually feel confident of us winning or not losing today. Martial is in a hot streak and definitely must start. We should be targeting Bonucci as he is Juve's weak link.

I’d love us to basically blank him - small cheer when his name’s read-out as is standard for returning players, and then nothing. No repeat of the hysterics displayed last time please.

That's exactly what happened last time, no? Big cheer for his name then boo'd straight away when he was on the ball.

I don't see why people are getting their panties in a twist over O.T given Ronaldo a reception. He's earned any love he gets.

Think it could be the first unchanged XI in a while. Expecting United to deliver tonight after the fight in the last two games. Crowd will be right up for it.

    excited for this...

gonna be tough but Old Trafford will be bouncing

kinda feels a bit like an early 90s CL game where the opposition were better than us but we showed lots of spirit

hope we aren't too cagey and have a go

The nerves are properly settling in now.

Just praying the team can ride the atmosphere and deliver on such a huge night. The place will be electric tonight, can't wait to get there.

    Come on United!!

From the sound of things Juve are short of midfielders at the moment with only 3 in the squad.

Juve are way better than Valencia and much more experienced than Chelsea. To avoid a loss with a good performance is fine for me.

I don't want to see any type of major love-in with Ronaldo before the game. Just get on with it and win.

This, won't be his first time back at Old Trafford and considering everything going on around him, a standing ovation would be an embarrassement.

Who are we kidding? We'll be hearing Viva Ronaldo all night long.

An embarrassment? Come off it. The guy's a legend of our club. He will get a great ovation (at least pre-match), and it will be richly deserved.

I think his comment was over the recent allegations against him which have not been cleared up yet. I don’t believe he doubts his status as a great player for our club.

Fair enough - don't think the crowd can really be moral arbiters though, considering no-one really knows what actually happened. Will still get a great reception.

Can't wait for this one, hoping Martial puts his name up in lights on the CL stage.

The key to winning this game is to play with high intensity and to be very aggressive off the ball. Juve from what I've seen are a slow team. They like to slow the game down and they don't have much pace apart from D Costa (who might not start even). We shouldn't let them have too many seconds on the ball.

Yes, Ronaldo should and must get a great reception here.

Mandzukic is key. Lump some money on him FGS. The fecker seems to score against us all the time (in my case, United & England).

Edit: Turns out he's injured. Get in!

    Excited for this.

These are the first genuine, current Euro giants we've played since Moyes. Buzzing.

Dude, this is a massive game. I mean HUGE.
I don't understand why we are only on 6 pages.

I remember back in late 90s when Juve used to play us. Those games were proper battles, like Italy were going to war with England. So much atmosphere and the crowd absolutely knew they were here to see a spectacle. The commentators also used to talk up the game, saying that this is the biggest match of the night. Everybody knew that the Juve vs MUFC matches were monumental.

I really do hope Jose and boys do us proud tonight, but I would like Lukaku benched. The guy is too big to play in our setup. We need a smaller, more nimble attacker who can keep the Juve defenders busy. Lukaku is too easy for them to defend against.

    Matchday squad

The following players were spotted entering a hotel close to Old Trafford.

Goalkeepers (3): David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant
Defenders (8): Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof
Midfielders (5): Paul Pogba, Fred, Andreas Pereira, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic
Forwards (5): Anthony Martial, Tahith Chong, Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata

With the injury to Sanchez, Chong makes the matchday squad and is likely to make the bench too due to lack of attacking options.

Three players will be cut from the final 18. My guess is Grant, Rojo and either Valencia or Darmian.
    Why?
Are you hoping he does well tonight?
Don’t get it either. A bit small club mentality in my opinion.
He’s hardly a Paul Scholes, he’s been here for 6 years. Was a great player and very important in our success, but he also wanted to leave desperately and gave the best years of his career to a different club, and that’s not something I’m going to forget.

Juve didn't quite impress vs Spurs in the CL. Are they better now?

Behave !!! I am no Ronaldo fan , but he is one of United greats and he will deserve his standing ovation , the only thing that is embarrassing is your post, what is happening in his personal life is his problem , not ours.

One of the biggest nights at Old Trafford since the Bayern game probably? Can't think of one off the top of my head. Can't wait.

I have been a fan of him since his debut for us and always wished him well after he left us, happy for him for what he managed in the CL and that he won the EUROs. I also wish his personal things clear up in a way that would prove me wrong and him using us for getting a better contract at Real was a nothing story.

I agree he's one of the best players ever played for us, wouldn't call him a club legend though and wouldn't like him to feel too much at home tonight. He deserved everything he got from our fans when he came back with Real few years ago but feel that we should be moving on now. Even if I disregard the accusations, time has passed and he's now at his second club after leaving us.

Are you hoping he does well tonight?

Because we are nice supporters and rarely forget our 'old' stars.

But when the game starts we forget everything he did for us, and try to send him back on a loser, and then after the game finishes we applaud him again too.

Now that should be easy to understand.

I don't see Juve embarrassing us because they play a controlled game. Our history against them gives me hope just as our history against Real Madrid always leaves me with an inferiority complex.
