We need to play high tempo and more first time passes, with diagonals to the wingbacks to get them in behind the opposition defence and to the touchline so they can cut it back to one of the number 10s or drag it across the six yard box for the striker.

I have no idea why we hardly ever play this way.

We’ll start with an unusually high amount of conviction and tempo, fail to score, then concede possession to Ipswich. They’ll score just before HT from a defensive error and come out for the second half looking for a second. Amorim will makes subs on 55-60 mins and we’ll start countering with more intent and grab an equaliser. Ipswich will sit back for the draw and we’ll scrape an injury time winner.

I cannot believe we're entering a home gain vs. Ipswich, a team who gifts goals like no business, and I'm here wondering if we're going to avoid a 2-0 loss at home.

Guinness on the go and the hope has begun to simmer again, thoughts that dwelt heavy before the game of a hiding vanish from my mind and I draw upon memories of the past. Hojlund, Garnacho and Mainoo sitting on the advertising board, Bruno's volley versus Burnley, Maguire making Havertz soil himself. We might be down but we are not out.

United 5-1 Ipswich. Feck the tractor boys.

How am I just finding out that not only did Tuanzebe play for Napoli on loan, but he only left United in 2023? He’s also 27 now. Wtf

I would love to see Eriksen get some games. Wonderful control of the ball and can find spaces. Sure, his legs don't have energy for 90 min but playing 60 would be enough.

I’d ditch the formation that evidently doesn’t work and replace a CB with Eriksen.
So you’d fall back into the ten Hag method of short termism, forget about establishing a foundation for the future and give 33 year olds that are leaving in the summer minutes in dead rubber matches. Nice

Question is if he is better to bring on, when the opponent has tired a bit and he can find a bit more space in midfield. But yeah, from a technical and intelligence perspective, he is our best midfielder by far.

He’s just such a dull manager, isn’t he? At home against Ipswich and he still lines up like a Mourinho side defending a 2-0 lead away against prime Barcelona.
Look at our options on the bench. Every first team attacking option that we've got available is in the starting line up. Our attacking options are so depleted that there's very little else we can do.

We've left ourselves just one senior CAM on the bench to bring on in Eriksen. And we've no senior strikers or wingers available for the bench. Very little options for him at this stage.

I keep reading this. I get the 5 defenders when the wing backs were Dalot and Mazraoui. But not when we had Amad there. And people seem to be counting it as five again with Dorgu there instead - but I'd count him very much as an attacking wide player than a defensive one, so more of a LWB/Winger than a defensive FB.

I don't class him playing there as being the same as playing a 5th defensive player there. He's clearly better going forward than defensively.
He’s also clearly still a defender. Lecce played him full back most of the time

My problem is that the lineup as others leaves us with just four naturally attacking players in the lineup - Hojlund, Zirkzee, Fernandes and Garnacho.
But let's hope somehow we make something of tonight

It's really frustrating seeing posts like this. Look at the fecking bench.

Obviously a game we should be winning comfortably on paper. Unfortunately the players never looked arsed in these games so I don't expect anything good.

I’d of stuck eriksen in this game for Zirkzee or Hojlund as another creative player. Garnacho will make the runs.

Whats the point in playing a striker who never scores. FFS this guy is not learning.

Could you repeat the post but include the names of the players performing each of these actions?

Might as well play some youth then.
You tell me which of our youth players are ready, and it's only the managers negativity that's keeping them out, then.

Obi is getting more minutes than his age and current development would say, not less. We'd have Collyer, Mainoo and Amad there but they're injured. We've already got Garnacho and Yoro in as starters.

I watch a lot of our youth teams and there's some good promising youngsters coming through that have a chance of making it, but none scream out as being close to PL ready yet. And certainly not as starters.

We are so boring to watch I'll probably watch the first half and then switch to Liverpool v Newscastle. I don't think I've ever done that when Man Utd are playing. Sad

    Is Mazraoui injured?

    Onana
    Yoro - Maguire - Mazraoui/MDL
    Dalot - Bruno - Ugarte - Dorgu
    Zirkzee - Garnacho
    Hojlund

Tempted to try Heaven at LCB but I haven’t watched him at all. Not sure how he’d fare. I also thought about Eriksen in the RAM, and Zirkzee up top, but the team would really be lacking in pace upfront.
Fair play, more or less nailed it.

Those old school Umbro jackets Ipswich have on are absolutely mint.

He’s just such a dull manager, isn’t he? At home against Ipswich and he still lines up like a Mourinho side defending a 2-0 lead away against prime Barcelona.

Now that Lisandro is unavailable and Shaw unlikely to be anytime soon, it weakens the system massively because De Ligt cannot carry the ball.

It's crazy. United walk on the pitch and I'm yes ! Come on lads ! I feel proud and excited.

So removed from reality I need psychological help.

Højlund has not scored the last 11 games in the PL
Zirkzee has not scored the last 13 games in the PL
Garnacho has not scored the last 14 games in the PL

    This is our front trio

Ten Hag tactics basically, we haven't progressed.
