ETH going to play that weird 4222 system with the box midfield but two wide strikers starting wide and then coming narrow. I think Mount and Bruno will start with Casemiro and Mainoo in midfield.

ETH will probably start M De Ligt but not Mazraoui and have Martinez at LB playing inverted, the worry Maguire and De Ligt playing a high line with no shaw or AwB recovery pace, let’s hope we score early and then try and keep Fulham in their own half. Tough start although their midfield is nowhere near as good as last year hopefully United nick it 2-1 or 3-2.

Predicting a M De Ligt Headed goal from a corner or set piece.

That weird system helped outplay Cheaty where we generated triple the goal threat imo. We should do fine against Fulham.

I’m not disagreeing, I like the box midfield as it allows the team to dominate the ball, however you need decent attacking full backs to give you width, Lisandro at Left back just is not his best position, and I can’t see him not starting Maguire and De Ligt?

ETH master plan will be at the set pieces when Scot and maybe Zirkee come on later on in the game, Long ball to the 3/4 big men and one of them will nut it in!

I would play Dalot right and Mazraoui left as I heard he got a better left foot so we could get decent service from both sides.
I wouldn’t be crossing them in if Rashfords upfront. That guy couldn’t head anything. Low crosses will be decent. Hopefully we play through them quite easy though with some good interchange around their box.

I hope Mazraoui can start so Licha can play lcb. Maguire could start over De Ligt unless De Ligt is fit and bedded in.

Most of our chances came from our wingers getting in behind or cutting in. The plan will probably be the same.

And this is why we can’t score more than 60 PL goals in the last two seasons, we don’t create enough goals centrally or from full back/wing back positions, the wingers cutting in are too easy to stop. If Rashford having a bad night you only need to stop one winger and double up on him.

ETH with Hake and RVN must and I’m sure they will look for multiple ways to break down teams and score goals from all over the Pitch, this is why I thought Zirkzee was a great signing as he steps into midfield or drifts wide in the half spaces and creates lots of chances centrally for runners off the ball.

Bruno, Mount and Mainoo are all capable of scoring and assisting in double figures this season snd Amad will be like a brand new signing if he’s trusted by the coaches. If Rashford not doing it, bench him and make him hungry to get his place back, same applies to Sancho, if we decide to keep him, again this formation suits him perfectly and he’s playing as one of the False 9’s whose very clever in the ball and finding space between the lines.

Exited but at the same time a nervous wreck. It’s almost like a must win game to stop the ongoing media bashing. Even if we win it will be well it’s just Fulham.

Looking forward to tonight, we really need a good start to the season. Ten Hags red army.

I cannot wait for kick off, I just hope the excitement lasts a bit longer than last season

Agree with ‚goals have to come from all over the pitch‘.

We were playing without a striker last week. We did see penetration from our midfielders: Bruno, Mount and McT all had chances.

It should help that we have a new set piece coach too.

Sancho: I think he‘s done here.

Zirkzee is definitely not great at headers

Let’s hope it starts better than last year!

    Wishlist for game 1:

    1) Rashford scores and sets the tone for the season. Won’t happen but he needs it if he’s going to stay.

    2) Onana to just be normal and not do anything stupid

    3) No more injuries

    Fair enough.

Rashford consolation goal not enough for United as Fulham down reds thanks to two unsaveable Smith Rowe wonder goals.

You mean shots hit absolutely centrally and trickle through Obama’s palms, or a penalty after punching a man in the cranium?

Does United have a fixed time before the game when they announce the starting XI? For example at Ajax its always exactly 75 minutes before the game.

Tactically De Ligt and Mazraoui don't even need bedding in cautiously. Arguably those two know EtH's system better than the current United players do, so, tactically I can't see him leaving them out for adjustment reasons; only fitness ones.

I'm surprised bookies have us as clear favourites for this match. Many of our players aren't match-fit and Fulham beat us last season.

I'll wait for the official line-ups.

Ready for the game. Excited to see us turn the tides of last season around and push for a solid top 4 finish.
I am predicting 2-1 United, but it would be nice to see us go out and put this one away early.

I feel last season broke me, I genuinely can't picture us winning the game :nervous:
I know what you mean but even last season we won 18 games. We won't be very good this season but we will win every once in a while, don't worry. Maybe even tonight though I expect a tedious 1-1.

We know how much ETH likes to not rotate his squad without reason. The only changes he'll make will be De Ligt and Mazraoui starting. 2 players he knows can play his tactics and are genuinely needed in the starting lineup due to injuries. No way would he play Maguire or Evans over De Ligt.
