All the money spent by Ten Hag, and it's one of the cheaper signings
You only got him that cheap for non football related reasons. Bayern would've never let him go otherwise.

He's your most intelligent and most technical player.

We've actually dominated the game really, just conceded two sloppy goals. If we continue playing how we have we should win the game. I think we've enacted some of the new tactics well

Mount is doing his England's silent domination. As one of the 10, he needs to massively step up and provide any creativity.
Yeah if he gets the ball more he can actually do something. I’m not his biggest fan but Antony didn’t pass the ball at least 3-4 times when Mount had space to run into.

Richard Dunne thinks “these are players who are over coached by this manager”.

Yeah Dickie, those 4 or 5 sessions he’s had with them were absolute overkill alright.

These lads getting paid actual money to share such thunderous thickness never fails to baffle me.

We need yoro back so we can play maz further up the pitch. He is wasted so far back.
We need Yoro back so that De Ligt can be moved to the bench. Maz is excellent for the RCB role and Amad at RWB is good enough until we can find a better solution in the transfer market.

Some real morons in punditry and commentary...

What are they banging on about, keep mentioning Martinez going in tight on the Bodo wide player for the first goal...I heard the phrase from Karen Carney "leaving Malacia one on one"....it was a 40-yard pass and we had three defenders vs two attackers...no system in the World can compensate for very poor play from an individual. Malacia was simply beaten far, far too easily

    No he wasn’t
Besides, Shaw is always injured so his “understudy” has to be better than Malacia.
People seem so surprised how bad he is tonight, it reminds me of Hargreaves, the longer he stayed off the pitch, the better player he was according to the Caf
Malacia is just as bad tonight as he was when he got injured.
Hargreaves was quality and a starter during the double season, hardly comparable. But agree on Malacia, he has never been good enough - especially as a backup to an injury-prone player.

Mason Mount is such a baffling player. Maybe it's me, but I genuinely haven't seen a single United game of him where I haven't completely forgotten that he's even on the pitch.

As soon as Yoro is 100% fit, we need Mazraoui to be our RWB.

Our left is just so bad, Malawian could be forgiven for being outchased for the second goal but he's had about 12 attempts/chances at crossing and most professional footballers should be able to find a team mate, he's found none in those attempts.

Antony is equally bad on right so end result is lots of possession final third but pitiful output.

    He's Dutch mate ;)

So i guess Amad, Shaw and Dalot should start 2nd half for Antony, Malacia and Moubt

Then we get mount in for Bruno and zirkzee in for Garnacho

We're looking very aggressive in winning the ball back high up the pitch, putting them under a lot of a pressure all the time. It's been great to see. As with the Ipswich game, the back three seem unsure whether to stick or twist in various situations and find themselves out of position, but that will come with time.

I genuinely can't believe we've got bedwetters in here who reckon he should switch back to 4-2-3-1 in panic after 1.5 games.
    Agreed

tbf i think the pressing looked more organized then ever under EtH, which is remarkable. You can see Garnacho in particular slacking further in the half, which is something i hope Amorim can stamp out.

I think in this game if we had Shaw and Yoro fit, our best line up would be.

    Yoro De Ligt Shaw

Then with Mazraoui and Martinez as the wing backs. Both sound defensively and and both deliver a pass long or short. You then have more pace in the back 3 too

It's clear we still have issues breaking down a very compact and well-drilled team. However, outside of a few good counters from them and a few mistakes from us we've at least controlled proceedings quite well and you can see what we are trying to do. We obviously still have to improve and we for sure need to up the tempo to do that.

Amad on for Mount and Dalot on for Antony
Why would you want to take Mount off, he’s been very good, very safe with the ball always looking for a good pass and leading the press. If anything Amad should be swapped for Garnacho.

Yeah if he gets the ball more he can actually do something. I’m not his biggest fan but Antony didn’t pass the ball at least 3-4 times when Mount had space to run into.
I’m with you on this, I’m not his biggest fan either, but he will probably flourish in this formation if we actually get the ball to him sometimes

We’re doing decent considering our back 3 are learning new roles, one wing back is playing his first game in 18mths, the other just isn’t good enough, Bruno having to remember to track back and Mount trying to not break down.

If we win it’ll be a good work out for them.

I mean, that's demonstrably not true? When they were fit and we played Varane/Martinez together they were superb. Martinez has not been as good this season but then he had a bad injury and got no pre season and no rest, he looked better recently.

Chelsea's back 3 was Cahill, Luiz and Azpi wasn't it - none of them are that fast, they just have to get protection (as do CBs in a 4 at the back) from their FBs and DM.
Martinez was good in his first season but really bad when fit last season and similarly poor this season. Varane was a good partner for him but yes he does often roam out of position and is too slow to recover

Chelsea's back 3 was slow but played in a system where they got a lot of protection. Most top teams press high these days which offers more opportunities for the opposition to isolate defenders

Hojlund is so underrated by our fans.
    He's not.

He has a great conversion rate, but struggles to get in goal scoring positions. His all-round play is also really poor.

That peach of a cross from Mazraoui allowed him to shine and it was a fantastic finish, but that's Bodo Glimt.

So much space for Malacia on the left. Can we have a player there who can cross?
Yes, giving it a right go. Okay he was burned for their second. Hopefully (if he stays on) something works for him.

He filled in for Shaw on numerous occasions and, considering what he cost, you shouldn't have any complaints.
Well I do and again he was never great. Expectations far too low at this club

Amazing start again. Was hoping/expecting the best then, but I shouldn't have been so naive.

Pretty good in possession and going forward, but shocking defensively so far it must be said. The players are all over the place so they clearly hwve grasped the system yet.

I’d actually try mount at the wingback position. He’s got a good cross on him and excellent defensive work rate.

As a 10 he has been invisible so far.
Probably switch Mount and Bruno position?

Hopefully Anthony moves to LWB and Malacia comes off. If he's fatigued he's going to be targeted more and more

Will also force Anthony to go down the line.
Hopefully Antony gets taken out too. We need 2 more goals to win cause we will concede one more goal at least. We need to give Amad a full 45 mins to make a difference.
