I honestly don't think we've been that bad. Biggest issues is our positioning when defending. Bruno and Martinez for the goals and Malacia and his inability to cross or take on a man and always choosing to pass back. I'd get Shaw on for him in the second half and Amad for Antony.

The biggest concern for me are those wing back roles. It's all well and good having the system but I really don't think many (any?) of these players have it in them to play that role.

The #10 roles look a bit of an awkward fit for players like Fernandes and Garnacho so far too.
There's a reason lwb is our focus for January/summer and it's this

Maz is our best central defender. Crazy. We will need two more like him. Fast enough, intelligent and sound technically. Martinez and DeLigt are too slow for this system. They will constantly get exposed on the break.

Malacia is horrible with the ball and not good enough without. Very poor player. I know he is coming back but he is too limited anyway.
Malacia and Antony are very poor going forward and are hampering us going forward.

We're looking very aggressive in winning the ball back high up the pitch, putting them under a lot of a pressure all the time. It's been great to see. As with the Ipswich game, the back three seem unsure whether to stick or twist in various situations and find themselves out of position, but that will come with time.

I genuinely can't believe we've got bedwetters in here who reckon he should switch back to 4-2-3-1 in panic after 1.5 games.

It’s been great to see but we clearly don’t have players capable of playing the system.

Either way, as Amorim said we shouldn’t switch back there’s no point. The players either adapt or they are out the door.

Great goal that from Hojlund, his best for the club as a technical piece.

It seems obvious that we're going to have growing pains with Amorim as he's laying down the blueprint for his system and not compromising it for the sake of making the players more comfortable. At the moment players are probably a bit overloaded with information so you're seeing them either forcing things a bit or just making the wrong decision because they're not familiar enough with their role yet but I do think it'll be a case of short term pain for long term gain because there are moments and passages of play where you see the potential and intention of how we're set up so I'm more than prepared to be patient to see (what might be slow) progress.

Our left is just so bad, Malawian could be forgiven for being outchased for the second goal but he's had about 12 attempts/chances at crossing and most professional footballers should be able to find a team mate, he's found none in those attempts.

Antony is equally bad on right so end result is lots of possession final third but pitiful output.

Positives and negatives. Still major problems dealing with counter attacks. Our defence has been very poor. Malacia has been very poor defensively. Martinez is pushing up a bit too high and didn't get back in time for any of their chances. The defenders in general are not getting back quick enough when we lose the ball.

Biggest positive for me is that our defensive line has played very high which is what Amorim wants. We were keeping possession pretty well also. Despite that we really created very little. I think Bruno's being wasted in cm and really don't want to see him stuck there going forward. Hojlund's had his best game in a long time. Great finish for his goal and pressed well for our 1st. Still nowhere near good enough against a very poor team. However, I can see signs of the players adapting even if they're not doing it very well atm.

What I like about this game is we can see instantly how to improve a few aspects. That LWB role needs a better cross delivered, Malacia had wasted all.of his crossing attempts. There needs eeds to be more control and presence in Brunos position, hes jot msde fornit really. Mainoo or Casemiro would tighten that space up. Amad needs to be I'm that 10 position for Garnacho. He provides so much more technically, and his passing woudl allow Rasmus to make the runs he likes to do and be picked out with a through ball. I like the overall dynamic though. It just needs tweaks to bring it together and obviously time to learn when to press, when to stay. Martinez for that 2nd goal as an example.

good points from both newbies and I agree.

If bring Mainoo on for Mount and move Bruno to the 10

    And Shaw for Malacia

We need Shaw at LWB. Malacia looks scared to cross the ball cause he doesn’t know how to and is afraid of giving the ball away.
We need a new left back no matter what. Malacia is not good enough, and Shaw is made of glass and gets injured too often.

Nonsense, he was a great under study for Shaw.
    No he wasn’t
Besides, Shaw is always injured so his “understudy” has to be better than Malacia.
People seem so surprised how bad he is tonight, it reminds me of Hargreaves, the longer he stayed off the pitch, the better player he was according to the Caf
Malacia is just as bad tonight as he was when he got injured.

Amorim said we'd see an idea and we will suffer. And so far it's exactly that. I like that we're always creating space for Malacia. I like that Antony and Mount look like they have some kind of partnership. I liked that for once we put the ball into the striker and he scored.

But there is still a lot of work to be done. Still way too open. Still got done by the physicality of the opposition. The technical and athletic level of his squad is too low. Mazraoui has shown how a good player can instantly raise the level. We need many more players of his ilk.

Mount is taylor made for this set up. Antony needs to do a better job of playing him down the line when he makes those runs.

Mount is doing his England's silent domination. As one of the 10, he needs to massively step up and provide any creativity.

If we actually want to play a high line then occasionally defenders will get caught out like that. It happens to City and Liverpool. Once the pressing improves up top you hope it becomes a rarer occasion. The Bodo lad did really well too.
Yep. These type of mistakes and growing pain should have been expected, it was never going to go seamlessly. We're playing a high risk, high reward game and given the lads have just started learning it, mistakes will happen.

Agree with a lot of that but can't believe you think that hes jot msde fomit. Controversial statement.

Maz the only guy with technical ability befitting the United shirt. How did we spend so much money and collected a bunch of footballers with such poor first touch. This is the reason why this team is only suited to counter attacking football, they don’t have the skill at this level to retain possession and break down a defence.

Hope Amorim persists with his tactics and weeds out all players not suited to his approach.
Yup, I have said many times that it is our players who are not good enough. Today is just another showing.

Need malacia off. You could hear the audible groans of the crowd when he didnt cross the ball for the umpteenth time.

That said, his crosses have been poor. Needs switching.

Antony was decent early on but fizzled out. He’s just a one trick pony - will try trickery with one foot and rarely takes on his man as he has neither the skill nor physicality to get around them. Get him off at half time too.

I’d actually try mount at the wingback position. He’s got a good cross on him and excellent defensive work rate.

As a 10 he has been invisible so far.

Changes need to be happening sooner rather than later. Malacia just isn't it. Put Dalot on. Diallo for Mount.

Just need the wide players to cross. No idea why they always check back. Against a packed defence we need to take some chances.

Totally agree. It's still only the first game for Antony, Martinez, Malacia, Mount and Hojlund (as starters). There are going to be mistakes and teething problems.

I think Malacia is doing ok considering it is his first start in almost 2 years, Lacking confidence and sharpness
