Thought that was the best we have seen from Zirkzee since his arrival

Teams used to be beat before they stepped on the pitch against us under Ferguson. Now everyone fancies their chances of beating us.

It was the old United basically gives up bit that confused me. But ok if they left out half a sentence explaining that the opposition gave up against the old opposition then fair enough but it's a bit churlish making that point today when Amorim is only in the door.

Well it's two feckin games into Amorim's United career so that's the reason for the eye roll.
Not necessarily criticising Amorim for this as much as the - for the most part - idiotic players.

Hopefully, he will weed out the worst of the bunch, inspire others, and instill a bit of urgency, winning mentality, and footballing ability back into our team.

Much improved up front, even if we are still struggling to convert scoring opportunities.
Ugarte needs a proper partner in CM.
Bruno was busy popping up all over the place, driving the play, but it left Ugarte alone for large spells.
We’ll continue to be turned over, if that long standing weakness isn’t addressed soon.

It is very simple to see how Amorim operates here. He noticed frailties and addressed them. He gave players that needed minutes time and then withdrew them before they damaged the result.

Rasmus was excellent, as was Mazraoui. Ugarte was solid, Luke Shaw being back, and hopefully staying fit will be an asset.

Wing backs are being evaluated it seems but for me, it needs to be a mix of Amad, Dalot, or Mazraoui. Defensively, you can use Mazraoui when Yoro is back or rotate Martinez and Shaw on the left and have the other as the LCB.

Bruno could work as a cm but not against a pressing team. Ugarte starts alongside Kobbie, Casemiro and if we include youth players, I'd like to see Collyer or Fletcher maybe.

The CAM role needs technical players with work rate so Mount, Bruno and Amad are first picks. Antony maybe with the wide support could work but let's not get carried away. Ibragimov could be a massive prospect in that role in the future.

Rasmus for me proved his use. Yeah he's let down by his touch at time but his work rate is unmatched by any of our strikers. Imagine having him and Gyokeres to choose from as rotating options.

Overall I loved this game. I relish the suspense in games, as long as we win haha. Its a competitive sport so lets see a competitive game eh. I was born a year before Fergie took over so ive heen spoiled in mt time as a fan. Lets get gritty and enjoy a game that could go either way eh. It was brilliant to see the effort from the players. Yeah mistakes were made but it's 2 games in and we Amorim had a lot of shit to undo to get us playing smoothly and consistently. You can already see his influence though. Bring on the next game.

    Good post that.

I missed this. Probably going to catch a full match replay in a bit. Just looking at the stats, though, and it seems very promising. Over 70% possession, 20 shots, hit the woodwork once, 3 goals.

Mazraoui at CB has been great. He has been solid all season, but he slots it into that wide CB role seamlessly.

Easy MotM for me, followed by Rasmus and Ugarte.

    Good post

I have no doubt our CBs will see more 1v1 situations, this is why I am not sure if Martinez will succeed in the LCB position where he’s expected to cover grounds and the wide space.
I am not convinced we have been looking at quite the right profile of CBs full stop for well over a decade now.

Eric Bailly might be one that stands out as a great athlete, besides the fact he was always injured, but the rest are kind of old school penalty box defenders.

We desperately need some pace in that back three. Yoro should help, but I do also have concerns about Martinez and De Ligt, to a lesser extent.

You almost want the profile of someone like Dalot at CB nowadays. Good on the ball, 6ft tall, good in the air, very good recovery pace. I wonder if he could work in that back three?

I wouldn’t be too concerned with Martinez if we had a much quicker CB, I have said this before we bought De Ligt I wasn’t convinced he is rapid enough to play in a high line but most people kept on referencing that one occasion where he didn’t get outpaced by Mbappe but completely ignored the fact that he did have a few yards head start and it wasn’t in wide open space.

Dalot will be sold next summer, I can’t see him playing in RCB position when we already have Yoro and Mazraoui and he for sure won’t succeed in the LWB spot, not even good enough as a 2nd choice.

Can't see Dalot being sold personally. I'm not his biggest fan but he's versatile, he's athletic and he's rarely injured.

I would agree if we don’t play 3-4-3, let’s see as Dalot is one that should give us decent money to reinvest into the squad.

Uhm, there was a post recently in his thread with exactly those words - “can’t hit a barn door”. Literally. And many claim that he has a bad first touch and technique (not just inconsistent, but bad).

Ok fair enough. I've seen a lot of posts criticising aspects of his game but acknowledging he's a good finisher when he does get chances, so anyone saying he can't hit a barn door is just being stupid!

Then again, thinking about it I’ve never seen him try to hit a barn door… I don’t know.
