Maz the only guy with technical ability befitting the United shirt. How did we spend so much money and collected a bunch of footballers with such poor first touch. This is the reason why this team is only suited to counter attacking football, they don’t have the skill at this level to retain possession and break down a defence.

Hope Amorim persists with his tactics and weeds out all players not suited to his approach.

Not really. With two 10s there should be a threat through the middle. But there isn’t. Can be forgiven because for past 10 years everything has been out wide.

Think Martinez has played one ball through the middle and it put us in the attack

    Great goal that from Hojlund
No there is a lot of space on the wings because Bodo keep most of their players in the centre. Malacia has so much space to play but isn’t good enough.

Mazroui such a joy to watch, he's a proper baller. Every player we sign from now on should have that technical profile.

My biggest issue with Malacia is he keeps getting into crossing opportunities and then just stops and passes back.
Precisely. He has had so many chances where he has been able to make crosses almost without pressure. But he either plays the ball back or makes a lousy cross. Not once do I remember him having a successful cross despite the many opportunities.

We're looking very aggressive in winning the ball back high up the pitch, putting them under a lot of a pressure all the time. It's been great to see. As with the Ipswich game, the back three seem unsure whether to stick or twist in various situations and find themselves out of position, but that will come with time.

I genuinely can't believe we've got bedwetters in here who reckon he should switch back to 4-2-3-1 in panic after 1.5 games.

More teething problems. Both goals felt like formation errors, where people are not comfortable with where they need to be and too easily get dragged out of position, leaving a tonne of space.

Up front we don't look great either. Garnacho struggles when he hasn't got space to run into. Antony isn't offering any width. Bruno has been invisible. Mount is never in space. Malacia has had lots of the ball and done little with it. Trouble is, so many of our players were struggling already this season, it's hard to see where formation ends and individual ability begins.

On the other hand, there's been good moments too, especially the last 10 minutes. Mazraoui... bro. What a player. I'm in love. Hojland did his bit too, wasn't that involved in general play, but good workrate and a high quality finish. Despite being vulnerable on the counter attack, at least we seemed to have more presence in midfield. Maybe the doughnut has finally been filled.

I think a combination of the shock of going behind, along with the general struggles adapting to the formation, took the wind out of our sails. We'll have to fight hard to get this one over the line - harder maybe than you'd hope, given the opposition - and I think a couple of subs are needed.

Mount is taylor made for this set up. Antony needs to do a better job of playing him down the line when he makes those runs.

Maz is our best central defender. Crazy. We will need two more like him. Fast enough, intelligent and sound technically. Martinez and DeLigt are too slow for this system. They will constantly get exposed on the break.

Malacia is horrible with the ball and not good enough without. Very poor player. I know he is coming back but he is too limited anyway.

What a surprise, we make an actual chance for our striker and he scores! Mazraoui must have been annoyed as I have been seeing our players just p-s around in wide areas: Took it on himself to dribble a few and put a good cross into the box. If only Antony and Malacia had been as willing to actually give Hojlund balls to attack.

We need to get actual crossers on in the wide areas. I'd be looking to bring on a centre back so Mazraoui can go to right wing back and I'd also stick Shaw on at left wing back. I would also put Casemiro on for Mount or Garnacho and get Bruno into an advanced area.

PS) De Ligt needs to have a much, much better second 45. Maguire will be kicking himself that he's not available.

Entertaining game with some good goals.

Players still coming to grips with this formation and style of play. There have been some nice moments but of course nowhere near enough. Just need to persevere & be patient with it as that’s the only way we are going to adapt.

We need Shaw at LWB. Malacia looks scared to cross the ball cause he doesn’t know how to and is afraid of giving the ball away.

Would love to see Shaw for Malacia, and Amad for Antony. Ain't no point in having wide players who can't do shit.

He could do De Ligt's role as a back up but I don't see how Maguire fits into an Amorim team.

I'm not sure where Yoro fits in either, anywhere across the back 3? RCB or the the central CB? I haven't seen any of him, hence I have no idea on his profile.

I'd imagine Yoro as RCB. His recovery pace was championed a lot in the summer so makes sense to play him there. That allows Mazraoui to then go to RWB sometimes.

Think we've looked really good just made a couple of errors. With actual wing backs on we'd look loads better as well.

The biggest concern for me are those wing back roles. It's all well and good having the system but I really don't think many (any?) of these players have it in them to play that role.

The #10 roles look a bit of an awkward fit for players like Fernandes and Garnacho so far too.

I just wish the commentators would stop talking nonsense about the manager needs to look at changing the formation every time when we are losing.

My Hojlund stocks will go parabolic in about 1.5 years. Happy I bought in early and won’t have to average down - just gotta hodl. Amorim has got a plan for me

So much space for Malacia on the left. Can we have a player there who can cross?

I'm happy with what I've seen so far. We've been the better team. Their first goal was a screamer. Poor defending for the second. Mostly positives to take from that though.

Both goals seemed like people didn't quite know where to be, which makes sense. Our second was a lovely goal.

Formation, formation, formation....99% of people who get paid to comment on or analyze the game are fecking stupid.

Will a different formation help Malacia run faster or Bruno track his runner or Garna/Rasmus keep the ball better or make Antony a footballer or make Malacia a better crosser? It's on those things we need improvement. Formations are so fecking irrelevant, yet they fecking keep banging on about them. Does my head in.

That’s what i want to see from Hojland. Oh my god, wow. He needs more delivery like that.

Amorim master stroke to finish this off please. Realize they actually have some pace on the break.

He has. He was being used immediately in training by Amorim on his first day. He's not ready yet but he has taken part in team training.
He trained on his own during that week as confirmed by Amorim . He has his own programme as he’s young and not developed fully physically .

We really missed a trick not appointing Robbie Savage as our next manager. He's really picked apart Ruben Amorim's system with his incredible tactical mind
It was unbearable to listen to him that first half. Spent the whole half just ripping apart the system as if this isn't something the players have just started to learn and growing pains should be expected. All his did is moan and moan, what a tool.

What I like about this game is we can see instantly how to improve a few aspects. That LWB role needs a better cross delivered, Malacia had wasted all.of his crossing attempts. There needs eeds to be more control and presence in Brunos position, hes jot msde fornit really. Mainoo or Casemiro would tighten that space up. Amad needs to be I'm that 10 position for Garnacho. He provides so much more technically, and his passing woudl allow Rasmus to make the runs he likes to do and be picked out with a through ball. I like the overall dynamic though. It just needs tweaks to bring it together and obviously time to learn when to press, when to stay. Martinez for that 2nd goal as an example.
