Last year we played Villa in the third round of the league cup and we played Dubravka, Dalot, Lindelof, Malacia, Mctominay, Fred, Fernandes, VDB, Rashford & Martial. The game before that was a league tie against Villa we lost and we played DDG, Dalot, Lindelof, Martinez, Shaw, Casemiro, Eriksen, Rashford, VDB, Garnacho & Ronaldo.

So we changed keeper but kept 2 out of 4 in defense, we then kept VDB & Rashford so we rotated 7 players but they were all first team rotation players, learning from this I will revise my original claim and think we will go with:

__________Bayindir (Possibly Onana given his recent issues)
Dalot Lindelof Maguire Reguilon (Dalot & Reguilon only fit full backs, I don't think he will risk Varane and Maguire needs minutes over Evans)
    _______Amrabat Eriksen (Both need minutes)
Bruno Mejbri Garnacho (Can't see Bruno not playing so the alternative here is Mejbri switches with Bruno and comes off for Pellistri)
    __________Martial (Needs minutes)

Couldn't complain with that lineup. I'd like to see Pellistri get a chance so perhaps him in for Hannibal.

To be honest, I don't care if we lose this one.

Most of the team looked exhausted after the game at Burnley and the PL is the absolute priority for us.

    ----------------------------------------------Bayindir--------------------------------------------
    Gore----------------------------Maguire----------Evans----------------------------Dalot
    -----------------------------------Amrabat---------Hannibal--------------------------------
    Pellistri------------------------------------Mount--------------------------------Garnacho

    Gore at RB? Really?

It's funny because Pellistri started a CHL game for us, and will probably not start a League Cup game :D

I think we should keep as settled back four as possible. It's clear they need to develop a better understanding and it would be good to build on the momentum of a clean sheet.

Other than that, Amrabat/Garnacho/Pellistri starts would be nice, as would minutes for Martial and Mount. Hojlund/Rashford for the last 20/30 if needed/to work on partnership could be a move too.

    Rest Martinez, Bruno, Case, Reguilon.

would like to see Varane and Martinez play a half together to get them match fit for Saturday

    ----------------------------------------------Onana--------------------------------------------
    Dalot----------------------------Maguire----------Evans----------------------------Sam Murray
    -----------------------------------Amrabat---------Hannibal--------------------------------
    Pellistri--------------------------------Eriksen/Mount--------------------------------Garnacho

Big players rest, the front 6 seems like the guys who need games, but no idea if Mount is fit enough to start or needs a game off the bench.

Might as well pick the defenders in their best positions and just play one youngster and it looks like the most recent game on Saturday had Murray at LB, though he didn't finish the 90 so no idea. He's tiny, but it's presumably gonna be Rak-Sakyi on the wing for Palace and not Ayew, so you need someone with quickness more than strength. Though Lisandro might be close, in which case maybe we just play Lindelof since we'd have. 5 healthy CBs if he and Varane are back. In that case I'd rest Dalot, things are pretty dire at fullback as it doesn't look like anyone is that close to playing apart from Dalot and Reguilon so they need to play every game in the Prem and CL.

I guess Amrabat at fullback and McTominay at DM could happen, have Amrabat tuck into midfield in possession with the W-M we have tried to play and the better teams seem to often do now, and you've got everyone in a position they actually play with 3 CBs defending, Amrabat and McTominay sitting and then a front 5 with 2 of Hannibal, Eriksen and Mount and then Pellistri and Garnacho wide with Martial up top. Fullbacks, Bruno, Casemiro and Rashford get a rest but the team still looks about reasonable apart from Lindelof as a LB, but at least it's in a back 3 whenever we have the ball. That might make more sense actually.

I'd play Onana because he looks a bit uncomfortable with his hands, so get him some games and rhythm.

Varane, Amrabat, Gore, Hannibal, Garnacho are must starts I think. Maybe Bayindir for Onana to give him some gametime. Not too bothered who the rest of the team are.

Most of the team looked exhausted after the game at Burnley...

That one line just tells you everything you need to know after only 6 PL games of the season. I can guarantee you no other PL club fans would be saying this about their team!

Hope we play some youngsters, if there was ever an excuse to field a massively weakened side then tonight is it, I cannot remember a time when we were carrying so many injuries, especially defence, think last worst was when SAF had to play Carrick as CB....

I expect ETH will field the strongest possible 11 though he doesn't seem to ever do that, so expect more injuries incoming for the weekend

I hope I'm wrong, but EtH has a bad trait in my opinion of overplaying players.

Perfect game for Garnacho and Pellistri and a few others to get some starts, but suspect he'll play it safe.

Rest Casemiro - other than that i'm not fussed.

Can see the argument in starting Rashford and Holjund as both need goals.

    Aydin

    Reguilon
    Lindelof
    Varane
    Dalot

    Amrabat
    Hannibal
    Mount

    Garnacho
    Hojlund
    Pellestri

Varane and Mount could do with the minutes returning from injury.

Amrabat and Hojlund need the minutes as well.

Hannibal, Pellestri, Garnacho all youth players that can stake a claim through a positive performance.

I’m not overly fussed with the Carabao Cup given we won it last season and it’s the least important cup (watch me change my tune if we make it to the semis…) but I’d still expect that 11 to come away with a win.

Getting out of this game without injuries is the only thing that matters. Hopefully ETH rotates so were fresh for the weekend.

A bit of rotation but I doubt we will see wholesale changes. It’s realistically only 2 out of the possible 4 trophies we can win this season. Just hope our attack clicks tonight and VAR doesn’t want to be the centre of attention.

    Bayindir

    Dalot - Varane - Evans - Reguilon

    Amrabat - Eriksen

    Pellistri - Hannibal - Rashford

    Hojlund

Heaton, Lindelof, Maguire, Casemiro, McTominay, Mount, B.Fernandes, Martial, Garnacho

    Manchester United 3-1 Crystal Palace

Why are (some) people picking Anthony Martial in their team? I simply cannot understand this, really. We have a new Centre Forward who needs games, and we want him to get goals... a goal in front of fans at OT would be great for Rasmus and the club. Martial should get nowhere near the team. His continued prescence at Man Utd reflects upon the club.

About tonight, well I am actually, a little reservedly I admit, looking forward to the game... seeing some players get out there and perform, in what will be an interesting and difficult match. Palace will bring some good youngsters, always have some cracking fans, and it ll makes for a v decent match.

I think so too but that was last season when he had limited choices. This season he has a lot more squad depth. Let's see if he changes his pattern.

Hoylund's playing time needs to be managed in view of his back issue. Its all precautionary but nevertheless you need to make sure it doesn't crop up or he could be out long term.

Exactly, starting him for three games in a span of seven days would not be a good idea. It's also one of the rare times we have Martial fit, so let's make use of him and not risk our main striker.

But we need to manage Martial too. Cant play him more than 60mins at a time or he breaks.

You have to play him in this game. He is either fit or not. If he needs more time to get fully fit, then ETH should say so, and manage that. If he isn't fit enough to play, then don't play him at all. Not all phyisical activity is detrimental when strengthening the body. At least give him 60mins. He's a young man ffs.

Forgot we were playing tonight, can't wait.

Nice little run of games coming up now with players starting to o come back. Hope we can go on a little run starting tonight.

Have a bad feeling that ETH won’t rotate.

Won’t surprise me if Casemiro and Rashford start and play 70+ minutes.

This match is a really key moment for me regards ten Hag being the man for this job. He totally ran the squad into the ground last season, going full strength in almost every game regardless of importance.
He has to learn from his mistakes or he'll fail miserably with nobody to blame but himself. He should have paid close attention to how the top managers like Fergie and Guardiola managed their squads in this league to begin with.

    Onana
    Dalot - Maguire - Evans - Reguilon
    Amrabat - Hannibal
    VDB
    Pellestri - Martial - Garnacho

Not sure if Maguire is ready so possibly Lindelof instead.

30 mins for Varane & Mount

if there is one domestic cup we should win that would be The FA Cup.

no need to gamble with hojlund for this game.

ETH never rotated much last season. Only against Charlton did he make multiple changes to the team. I'm expecting a strong team. Rashford and Bruno will start for sure.

Don't really understand the logic behind heavy rotation and using youngsters. We are much more in need of consistency, gelling the team, and stringing wins together than resting players.
Have you not seen how knackered everyone looks and how many injuries we have?

Priority is PL/CL then FA cup then a long way down the list the EFL Cup.

I'd like to see a win featuring players returning from injury and getting their fitness up. Winning is good, especially for a team searching for momentum.

But if we were to be knocked out, I wouldn't be devestated. It's the least important competition and fewer games would be a little silver lining for a squad struggling with fitness issues. As we saw last season, being spread thin across multiple competitions can catch up with you.

The reports when we signed him indicated that the back injury was the kind of thing that could deteriorate if he was overplayed and might then require surgery. As long as we didn't overplay him it should clear up over a couple of months.

What we don't really know is how far into that recovery period he already is. Maybe he's already at the end of those 'couple of months', at which point he should be fine to play most minutes. If not, it seems likely it's fine to play fairly consistently but we need to be careful and rest him as much as possible.
