I can see Palace having two banks of fours permanently camped in their own half even after they are down by a goal or two.

Its 90mins of damage limitation by Palace.

I would take a 1-0 with a difficult 1st half -- us, being tired and Palace banking up.

If Fellaini's really out, the only midfield bench option will be McTominay. Reminds us again of that dreadful loan… Although my guess is we'll see Lindelöf start a game there first than McTominay.

That's optimistic, I'm expecting 4-5-1 from them. And people want to bench Mata!

Attacking wise, maybe Mourinho could do a de Bruyne with Mkhitaryan (or Lingard) and play him as #8.

Think a City fan on here said they were doing well when they were actually trying to attack City, their problems started when they dropped back and tried to defend instead. Might not be a bad thing for us this time if they are incapable of defending properly.

Just out of curiosity, what are your feelings about Pereira going on loan?

Surely blind is a better choice at midfield than most - hardly put a foot wrong in any position since first season & will only do better with matic guarding

 Don't get me started on that! Check the specific thread for that or… just revisit the manager's statement:

Mourinho said earlier this month: "Andreas Pereira was a personal decision that I don't agree with," Mourinho said. "A decision I don't think honestly I don't think is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me a little bit, because I think he has the potential to be here fighting for a position, for opportunities, and fighting to be a Manchester United player. / "I think his decision can be considered a decision of a young player who wants to play every weekend but can also be considered a decision by a young player that is not ready to fight for something difficult and it's difficult to play in the Manchester United midfield. / "You have to be ready to fight for a position and I am a bit disappointed that he left. But okay, it was his decision, I open the door for his decision, he has a long-term contract, we have the option to bring him back on January 1, so we have that situation under control. It is not a drama but is a decision that disappoints me a little bit."

By the way, “not a drama” was before Carrick, Pogba and Fellaini all dropped injured at the same time.

It was Pereira's decision and nobody can count on 3 midfielders being injured in the same time.

Sounds like Pereira is at fault for being on the bench for Valencia instead starting for us this weekend. At some point you have to stick around and fight for your position or take an opportunity when it presents itself.

I don't know what their squad is like.. What is their likely XI going to be like?

Their formation will probably be 9-0-1. And I expect the score to be ... not similar. 2-0. Even though I think we could annihilate them

As long as Matic and Herrera stay fit we should be okay. I think that Fellaini is just a knock and he will be back after the international break. Carrick and Pogba not so sure about.
At the end of the day it was his decision we can only except it.

It should be a cake walk but i don't think it will be. They will put up a fight against us and we need to score on more than one occasion.

    Maybe something like…
    Hennessey
    Ward–Dann–Sakho–Aanholt
    Townsend–McArthur–Milivojevic–Cabaye–Schlupp
    Sako

That doesnt look like the worst side in the world... They are massively under-performing

And maybe Puncheon in for McArthur.
They're both among the worst players in the league and that serbian guy looks even worse, somehow. I wouldn't be worried if we played just Fellaini and McTominay against that lot, honestly.

Well, if they're all packed in their area, stacked together, maybe their lack of quality won't show that much.

Assuming Jones and Valencia both can't play

    ----------------De Gea-----------------
    -----------------------------------------
    -------------Bailly---Smalling----------
    Young------------------------------Blind
    -------------------------------------------
    -------------Herrera---Matic-------------
    -------------------------------------------
    -----------------Henrik-------------------
    -------------------------------------------
    Mata------------------------------Martial
    ------------------Lukaku-----------------

Bring it to them from the first whistle. I want to see us completely relentless and ruthless

I wouldn't start Smalling in this. No aerial threat from them, we cannot afford a centerback who only passes sideways.

We always seem to struggle against teams parking the bus in recent years. One or two of our results have flattered us this season already in these attack vs. defence scenarios.

I expect us to win, but that's dangerous because the opposite usually happens when I feel confident. Last weekend I had no hope of us winning.... and we won :)

I'm no fan of Smalling but come on, I don't think Blind or Lindelof playing instead is the key to us unlocking a dire Palace team.

The devil's in the details. Mourinho himself told us a ball playing centerback could be of use to unpack defenses.

    Poor Woy having no strikers.

I can almost see it now - Zaha & Townsend alone up top and the other 8 at the back playing the long ball. We should absolutely dismantle this team.

He doesn't do that, he only desperately boots it forward under a tiny amount of pressure when there's a midfielder open right in front of him.

I'm not afraid of Hodgson, the man, the myth, the legend -who managed to feck up against Iceland when it mattered most. I expect an absolute hammering, lots of pretty stuff going all in favor of United.

Hoping that Martial starts and the moaning stops. ;)

City couldn't cope with Benteke would was running behind and into the channels while Loftus-Cheek was playing really well but they couldn't score. Obviously those two players are out on Saturday.

Defensively, Palace are shambolic, however part of that is due to going 3 at the back. It was a bit better first half against City, but the flood gates opened after the second obviously.

This should be a banker as they come given our form and theirs .... so not sure why I am nervous.
