Discussion Your Lineup Prediction

  • To have spent so much and end up with such little quality is not only incompetence but bad luck as well. Not even by luck we strike gold, it's a total disaster.

Who's gonna score two goals in these few minutes for us? :(

Keeping ETH on was the massive issue. There were managers out there, but it seems Ineos want too much control. They didn't want Ruben, then turn to him in panic and have hamstrung him in the process.
Safe to say we chose the worst possible timing. Sack ETH in the summer and this is a totally different discussion. Hopefully

From the likes of Van Persie, Rooney, Ronaldo, Cavani, Lukaku to Mr. I'm-too-good-to-try-anymore-Rashford, Hojlund, and Zirkzee.

How we've fallen in the striker department,

But. Errr. They're not. And it is so transparently obvious that Amorim is shoehorning players to fit the system rather that having a system to get the best of the players he has. We have gone backwards under Amorim as it stands.
These players were garbage in the system the ETH bought them for, these players would layover in a 442, 433, etc…ETH bought recklessly due to his own ego and were stuck with his shit.

Sir Alex Ferguson: "A great goalkeeper is worth 15 points over the course of a season

This is what I say all the time, and it’s the same line of thinking as Roy Keane’s infamous comment that gets ridiculed.

You expect your goalkeeper to win you points in the long run, if they are costing you points on a regular basis then they have no place in the team, even when they have the occasional good game.

He won't. It's not his fault this has happened. The previous manager and glazers lack of football intellect has caused this. We're broke and left with a steaming pile of shite.
He's unfortunate he had to come mid-season into a squad that absolutely doesn't suit his setup, but the club is at risk of relegation no matter how much people want to put their head in the sand. The performance against Southampton was atrocious and everyone just pretended it was fine because of the last 10 mins. Against literally one of the worst teams in the history of the PL. If we keep losing throughout February, the board will act.

This is bad. Amorim stubborness when his tactics has been found out by most EPL teams. His way might works in Portugal but he needs to shore up the team for now or he wont last till next season

There's no point persisting to instal a system where 70% of the squad is going to be replaced anyway.

It's not FM, he needs to finish at least respectively around 8th. A free season doesnt mean a blank cheque

No surprise at all. I just don’t know where we go from here. The championship is a very real possibility. Awful team and the worst United side I have seen since the mid to late eighties when Peter Davenport and co were stinking the place out.
You have to understand it's not going to be an overnight fix, and progress isn't going to be linear.

We've seen encouraging scenes recently, but today was a step back again.

It'll take time unfortunately, as we all want it now.

As bad a manager as Erik is there was still an uptick in form when Ruud was in charge so there's still feasibility for these players to be used under very specific parameters. The real struggle has been the chalk and cheese difference in system between the two contrasting coaches.

It's INEOS's poor planning and judgement that has set United up for failure this season. I do hope post match there's much emphasis on their incompetence as executives at the club. This is the fruit of their labour failing to sack a manager that underperformed only to bring in a new one mid season, with no use of the window and a congested fixture schedule.

I think the telltale signs is that this ownership will continue to fail under their leadership.
That's a failed experiment though. We know if we play to these players strengths we may get a small bounce, but they will settle at midtable.

So there is no value in doing that, instead it needs a completely new approach throughout the club and a turnover of the squad.

The issue we have, is while there are football clubs that are solely focused on football performance (Real/Barca), or others that will throw crazy money at a problem (City/Chelsea), we have owners who see us only as a business that much make a longterm return. Therefore we won't release players, and won't sign new players until others have left.

That doesn't work, because no one wants to sign our players as A) they are mostly crap, B) paid too much money, and despite how much they say they want to play football, aren't willing to take a pay cut.

As if today's watch wasn't hard enough, my stream kept needing to be refreshed.
Do hate these 2pm Sunday games that aren't on a proper channel.

We have to cut out these crazy individual mistakes

We've not really looked like scoring

At no point. Was a game where it felt like we could have played for hours without scoring from open play -- unless Amad did a mad run, or Bruno suddenly pulled something out of his ar$e. Its potentially the most disappointing thing about today. Toothless.

While you're right the squad is a state and Amorim is unfortunate he had to come in mid-seasob, he won't be allowed to just be relegated, and unlike you I think that is a possibility on our current trajectory. The last 10 mins against Southampton masked one of the worst performances I've ever seen, against a truly terrible team.

They weren’t truly terrible though were they? They played some great football and look half decent under the new manager. They’re currently giving Forest a good game, and they are third in table.

We cannot afford not to do business in January, this team is not it
Its not working, is it? Attitudes and work rate seem to have improved but there simply is the quality there. Ratcliffe and Glazer will have to spend and with the constraints of the fair play financial rules it seems we'll have to sell too and while I'll be glad to see the back of Rashford and Antony I cant see any team wanting to pay Ratcliffes asking price. Casemiro and Eriksen can no longer cut it and Onana is a car crash waiting to happen, but these 5 players need to be sold on and probably others too.

The thing with Ruud's period in charge is that is was essentially back to basics. It did away with ETH's black hole midfield. The players were asked to do basic football things. This is very much similar to why Ole had reasonable success but also a ceiling.I've actually no doubt that we would have had a better season under Ruud than Amorim for this very reason.

The question then becomes is there any benefit in Amorim getting a head start now under these conditions with a squad so ill-suited to him? I think it's obvious that it gives you a headstart on squad building and seeing who is suitable but it does sacrifice our form in the short term.

My major worry is that Amorim is going to have a hell of a job maintaining morale this season and buy in going into his first summer pre-season. Will the boys already been losing faith if we don't find a way to show gradual improvements?

We actually looked pretty decent in the first half, but two cringe mistakes by the keeper tanked any chance of victory.

Amorim is the new Ange. A philosophy man with zero tactical flexibility. The only difference is at least Spurs are entertaining to watch .

I doubt it somehow, they would have said, just see what you can do with these players and we will see in January, then do naff all, they are a bunch of con artists. He has been sold a pup.
