  • Poor start, but we've gradually got better and have ok in this against a difficult opposition to play against. Think 1-1 is a fair score line. Both teams look a little light at the top end of the pitch. It's there to be won. Need to pounce on them in the midfield again and win the ball as high up the pitch as possible. Amad is the only really pacey/quick player that we have on the pitch. Think Garnacho coming on will change things up and give us more chance towards the latter end of the game.

    You're missing one key one; the penalty that he did reluctantly give should have been a red card too, as there was no attempt to win the ball.
     
    1. Zirkzee makes the team play better.
    2. Amad is exceptionally good at pressing.
    3. We need another athlete in a midfield two, Mainoo isn't a central midfielder.
    4. De Ligt is a great defender.
    5. Dalot is probably the biggest weak link.
    6. United are slowly but surely improving.

    Playing no10 is different than playing no9. As no9 Zirkzee can use his hold up play and distribute ball to runners. As no10, he becomes a runner (which he isn't) and Hojlund becomes a target man (which he isn't).
     
    Decent response after going behind. Baleba should not be on the pitch. Mitoma should be booked and Minteh should have been booked earlier for that scissor tackle from behind. Reminded me of that tackle where Elliot got that horrible ankle dislocation vs Leeds. So dangerous.

    Some people need to learn the rule. Plain as day. @antk you say yourself it’s DOGSO, and there’s no attempt to play the ball whatsoever

    The ball is a hot potato at the feet of Hojlund right now and for a long time now. He cannot do the basics of a striker. Zirkzee can.
     
    Although Zirkzee has had a tough start to his United career, he has been good today and had a few decent sub appearances. I think it's worth persevering with him till the summer.

    Amad has also been very good today and Brighton seem scared stiff of him.

    Agreed. I think there’s been a referee mandate not to give us fouls unless they’re completely unavoidable. What was that tackle from behind from Minteh on Dalot? Was a clear foul and yellow but ref wasn’t interested. Absolute joke!

    After the horror show of Mazroui sleeping for the first goal I think we’ve been ok. What a turn around in form for Zirkzee. He’s looked great.
     
    So many underperformers today but generally played ok thanks to Amad and Zirkzee's quality on the ball.
     
    We're playing ok. Brighton forced to have lots of useless possession after their goal, only glimpses of threat. Ref isn't giving us anything.

    Mainoo's played ok but hooking him for Collyer for an injection of energy would make sense.

    Amad as always feels like he could create/score a goal at any moment.

    Not sure how you add more attacking threat though. Zirkzee's been excellent and this isn't a game for Hojlund - Dunk will pocket him. Garnacho on for Dalot at some point maybe? But Dalot's been good.

    Failed to give a red for the penalty and also should have sent Minteh off for kicking the ball away when it went out for a goal kick.

    Brighton should be down to 9.
     
    The midtable mentality of this team really showing in that half. The only time we played well was the last 10 minutes before the equlizer when we where chasing the game, after that the players crawled back into their shells and stopped chasing the game. A draw at home against a midtable team like Brighton should never be good enough, we should be the team pressing and chasing the lead, not sitting back and defending like we are happy with the result.
     
    I don't know if Mainoo has bulked up, but he has even less legs than last season. Whatever he or the club has done physically needs to be reversed.

    Would prefer Collyer for the 2nd half and that's saying something.

    I don't get why the penalty incident wasn't a red card for Baleba. He was the last defender and made no attempt for the ball.
     
    We need new players asap. Liverpool can overhaul their entire midfield in one season. Nottingham changes their entire squad in 2 seasons, Chelsea doing pretty much the same but we can't move on nor buy players. I just don't understand how the people running this club can be this bad at their job.
     
    We really do lack intensity as a team. Looks like we are stuck in 3rd gear. Good to see Zirkzee growing in confidence but we are so dependent on Amad and Bruno to score, need goals from elsewhere.

    He's outscored Hojlund, whose pretty shit. So I wouldn't count against it.

    The team plays better when Zirkzee plays, surprised you can't see it.
     
    after the pen we sat back and again the lack of collective quality on the ball is there to see.

    2nd half, our players need to do a lot better on the ball.

    What makes you think I never saw a header across goal? There was no need here as he’s clear and 5 yards out or so. The more touches you want to take in that zone, the bigger the chance someone messes up or a defender gets in between.

    If he can play like this most times, he is a clear starter for the rest of the year, in my opinion. Good hold-up play that has added a lot to the team.

    You could take Mainoo off, drop Bruno back, have Hojlund and Amad running of Zirzkee.

    Hojlund has the pace to threaten down the channels running off Zirzkee.
     
    I pretty much dislike when seeing Mainoo at central midfield. It's not his fault but he's NOT a central midfield at this stage. Feels like even the bottom 5 teams have better central midfield than him.

    Must admit i was suprised it wasnt a red. If you make no attempt to win the ball, it can be a red. Clear DOGSO for me.

    Minteh not booked for dissent. Soft - but if throwing your boot on the floor is a yellow, rhen so is booting the ball away

    Antony is better tracking back than most of our wide players, Mazraoui is obviously a better defender. But he himself played an attacker onside for the goal
     
    We need to keep the ball better/spend more time with the ball. Ref's not been particularly good today
     
    When the team is higher and the CBs are more aggresive they look better, but when we are passive we effectively look limp up top. Amorim needs to figure out a way to get our wingbacka and wide CBs to gamble. Too many times we have a line of 5 marking 2 or a line of 3 marking 1. Ends up with us not having enough players in the midfield or forward line.

    Maguire clear header. Diallo 1-on-1. Bruno scuffed chance. Plus the penalty. That's plenty for a half.

    Didn't give a red for that pen. Didn't give a second corner. many more little things he gave against us. shafted y the ref every single game.
