Good to see Ten Hag didn't fold against Ronaldo. Let the cnut on the bench.

Disappointed in VdB, that's 3 managers now that rather start McFred. There goes away my theory about him being a starter under Ten Hag.

hope we start the league on the winning foot

Ten Hag's first real stamp on the squad. Didn't cave to pressure of Ronaldo.
Ronaldo made the decision easy for him by not turning up for most of pre season. He was never going to start after only 45 minutes play time and I'm sure he didn't expect to start himself.

And we couldn't win either. While Brighton were beating Espanyol 5-1. Hopefully we'll be a lot better than last weekend.
I believe we will, those fixtures would have given the impetus to help make sure we improve, I definitely think we will be much more better.
Helps Eriksen starts from the beginning, as well as Martinez.
Can't wait to see Varane fit and firing, pairing up with Martinez would be the ideal for me.

Relax and watch the game. Sometimes supporting a club is not about hoping that we will dominate teams, but always believing that we will get a chance and win. I am fine even if Brighton has 80% possession and we win 1-0.

Hope we win comfortably. Use 5 subs and leave Ronaldo on the bench.
    Perfect day

I don’t recall seeing the name Harry Maguire mentioned here today. Time for him to restore his reputation.

Really excited for this. Hopefully Martinez pings balls out to the wings and Bruno, Eriksen and Sancho serve up some sexy passing in the final third. Let's go!!!!!

This is definitely going to be a bit tough and I'm happy we will play a challenging team.

They use the ball very well and overload in central areas so our pressing game will really be put to test.

Will also be good to see how Martinez deals with Welbeck aerially. If he gets through this witbout problems, I can't imagine his height should be an issue as there aren't many strikers more challenging than Welbz in that respect.
Set pieces will be the challenge for us. Open play less of an issue.

Maguire should be marking Welbeck rather than Martinez. Anyway Brighton are not a long ball team, so we should be seeing more of on the ground possession.

I don’t think people understand how important it was to get rid of some players. I look forward to this season without some of pretenders.

To quote Karan Tejwani's article on this:
Numbers show that, on average, the Premier League has slightly shorter players than the Eredivisie, with the English league’s average height standing at 182.29 cm and the Dutch top-flight’s average height being 182.52 cm.

Furthermore, the competition Martinez will also be competing against will also be of similar stature: Premier League forwards are, on average, shorter than Eredivisie forwards.

Additionally, forwards in the Premier League also engage in fewer aerial duels than those in the Eredivisie, the big change would be the quality Martinez comes up against while he’s at Manchester United.

In terms of the ball being in the air, Eredivisie matches generally see more crosses being played – in the last season, there were an average of 35 crosses a match, with Martinez’s Ajax crossing the ball the most.

Contrast that to the Premier League, where there were an average of 23 crosses per match, with Manchester City being the most at 16 per match.

Stats show that Martinez also has the best duel success rate of any player in the Eredivisie, winning 154 of his 222 contested, showing that he can hack it against physical players.

Away from numbers, he’s also often shown that in Europe over the years: the best examples come against Victor Osimhen in 2019, as well as against Edin Dzeko and Erling Haaland in 2021.

If he's bad, it won't be because of height, based on this.

With Martial's injury a lot of us were worried that we'd had no other choice. Gladly Ten Hag didn't fold.

ETH pre match interview on Sky. She hasnt asked a question that doesnt have Ronaldo in it yet.

Anyone got a decent river for a man at a wedding please ?

    Edit. It’s not my wedding.

Yes I wanted to see Bruno as our CF!

Maybe not a perfect false 9 but will be able to make passes and shoot.
